This was the worst holiday we've ever...
1 / 10
Jan 2007, Mrs P Sunley-charles

This was the worst holiday we've ever had. The room was dirty & shabby.
When we arrived the floor was dirty and the bath mat wet, lamp didn't work, TV remote didn't work and a blanket had black mould on it.
We're both veggie but the food was appalling - often nothing but salad for us to eat.
Our `Gala Christmas dinner' was creamed spinach with spinach pie. The bread was stale, chips re-fried and pasta dry. Even the fruit juice from the machine at breakfast was so strong it was undrinkable.
The staff were rude and uncooperative and the maitre d' even shook a sign in my husband's face because, after waiting to be seated for 10 minutes, we'd edged a couple inches forward of the sign.
The pool often wasn't cleaned - I had to pick sweet wrappers off the surface one day and then found a large plant pot on the bottom of the pool with compost floating up to the top.
The pool surrounds were often littered with dog-ends and the sunbeds were ingrained with dirt and chewing gum.
Thomas Cook reps were not particularly helpful, although they did give us our money back after we'd complained about the packed lunch when we went on a trip.
How this hotel ever got in the brochures is beyond me. Definitely one for the Basil Fawlty award.

Returned from holiday on the 28.12.06...
10 / 10
Jan 2007, Smithie

Returned from holiday on the 28.12.06 after spending Christmas at the Teguisol. Had never been to Lanzarote before, although had visited other Canary Islands. My family and I, husband, one son of 2 years and one of 6 approached the hotel in the bus with some fear, having read all the previous comments on this web page. However, we found none of them to be true, apart from the chips, which as one person has already pointed out - you do not have to eat chips if you do not want too! The room was number 249, which was great just up from the kids club, the pool and the reception. It was quiet, apart from the neighbours breaking into their room one morning at 4am, but I suspect we were noisy too with a 2 year old! The food was good. My hubby had never been away for Christmas before and never half board so I was interested at his reaction. We all thought the food was well presented, not on show too long to worry people about it being cold and thus dodgy tummies, in fact I did not hear of one person being ill the whole holiday. For breakfast there was a full continental breakfast, jams, meats, cheese etc, plus all the breads, rolls, croissants. Plus there was a full cooked breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, oh yes chips, hard boiled eggs. Also cereals yoghurt fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice. Yes it was the same everyday, but hey it is a great choice and it is up to YOU to not be greedy and make changes everyday. Dinners were also buffet style soup to start, then mains of fish, pasta, meat plus veg, salad, bar, breads, chips, potatoes. Desserts from a range including ice-cream. All this was unlimited. Again much the same each night but if you stayed in a four or more star hotel and had to select from a menu then you would only order one main, i.e. chicken. Here you could have all 4 main dishes if you wanted, and 6 deserts. This is, we feel the sign of a good hotel, choice. The restaurant is down a flight of marble stairs so not to good for the infirm. Christmas day dinner was fab. Loads of starters, salmon, pate, soup, etc, different main courses and desserts, too many to name, plus a special children's meal including those Jamie Oliver Fav's Chicken Nuggets. Plus a free bottle of wine, beer or water. My 2 year old tucked merrily into sugar puffs with yogurt, followed by Croissants and jam every morning. Then pasta at night with some veg. My 6 year old loved all the choices and even had salad one night, unknown for him. It is about saying NO you cannot have chips all the time, and if you do not eat some proper food then you are not having any pudding. The only thing to be wary of though is that if you order drinks in the restaurant there is a levy charged on them. Highchairs are available in the restaurant but beware as some do not have straps on them. Luckily for one baby a waitress saw him slipping down his chair and rescued him. The room was spacious and clean. Yes the soles of your feet became dirty but this is from the sand blown in as you open the door and from your own shoes etc. For goodness sake you are on holiday. The maid came every day bar one, and changed the towels and bed linen. We used the microwave in the room once but just to heat up some hotdogs. Never saw a cockroach, never saw any insects. Yes the pool was cold but the kids did not have a problem, neither did my husband when we all forced him in, all the other parents laughed though. The sangria round the pool was the best I have ever had. The hotel staff were really helpful. The tour rep did have us going in the wrong direction twice for the car hire company, though. But the welcome meeting was only 15 minutes, which is loads better than the usual hard sell you get. Evening entertainment varied. Kids disco is OK but not for an hour as advertised and the bingo, no thanks, not with kids. But the show we watched, parrot one, was good and a laugh. it really is up to you what you want. But we did not go to go out every night. In fact a couple of nights my husband and my 2 year old when out for a walk, 2 year old in buggy, and myself and my other son sat and watched TV. Yes some may say sad but when all you want it to relax it is sure nice to have some peace. The TV was 1 Euro per hour, and we got lots of English TV, plus some kids cartoons in English and Sky. The only complaint we do have is the kids club. The evening meals start at 6.30 and the evening kids club 7pm not much time for kids to eat if they want to go. Also the extra costs you pay for some activities are far too high, we paid 25 euros for a Christmas Party and Slumber Party which was advertised as including snacks. At the slumber party it was 3 sweets. At least Dick Turpin was polite enough to wear a mask. Hired a car for 3 days, so saw a bit of the Island, also went on long walks round the coast, in the local area, great restaurants all over. The Mexican was especially good . The market on a Sunday in Teguise is excellent, it is massive. When we got there we though it was only a couple of streets, but no, a great food area, and lots of bargains and entertainment. Would we go back? Already talked about it and agreed we would. Would we go back to same area/hotel again, Yes no worries.

Just returned from Christmas as...
8 / 10
Dec 2006, Mrs H Reynolds

Just returned from Christmas as Teguisol Apartments, we had a fantastic time and would certainly jump at going again!!
Prior to going I read all the remarks other people had said and to be truthful, I became quite uneasy about our visit.
I read all the reports of poor cleanliness - our rooms - 304 & 305 were spotless, our towels were changed three or four times a week with spares available, the room was cleaned on a daily basis including Christmas Day, and clean sheets mid week as well - they even covered my sons teddies with his sheets to keep them warm - aaahhhh!.
The floors were very well cleaned, and the cleaning lady even cleaned the balcony!
We had coin operated TV, 1 Euro per hour, sky sport, euro sports, bbc1, 2, Chanel 3, channel, 4 three cartoon channels, movies etc - fantastic - we had central news!
Yes the towels are brown, well they match the bathroom - so what, and I did take my own towels after reading all of the report, but - did not use any of them.
My son who is 9 used the kids club there and thought it was fantastic, we had him in tears at the end as he did not want to leave he loved it so much.
We went self catering and the only facility we used was the toaster and the fridge so can not comment on the usage in the room.
We did have breakfast in the hotel twice, this is a buffet breakfast, with full English available, toast, fruit, continental, juice, coffee etc, yes there were chips as well (you don’t have to eat them!).
We had one evening meal there as well, a three course, with fantastic cauliflower soup, a variety of meals, meat, vegetarian and fish, full salad bars, and delightful sweet selections and unlimited ice-cream - oh yeh and chips!.
The breakfast was 5.50 E and the evening meals 10.50 E, They were a nice and very plentiful, although I would say that within 5-10 minutes walking distance there is an abundance of eating places.
We ate at the Tex mex steak grill (turn left at the netto at the square and walk to the side of the Chinese) they cook fantastic t- bone steaks freshly cut.
The best I think, is just opposite the "square" it looks like a tent, it is an all you can eat buffet style restaurant and has an English, Italian and Chinese areas and you can try all three and all your drinks are included as well for 14 E - beautiful atmosphere as well very pleasant.
If I did have to put a negative view I would definitely say that the entertainment was very very very poor. Christmas entertainment was basically nothing, they did entertain the kids and the bingo people (my mom one a line - a jug of sangria and a house 93 E). I was disappointed with this, - oh yeh as the pools are not heated - at this time of year they were not surprisingly stone cold!
To give you an idea, I have just been into our local Sainsbury that has a co-op travel shop in and looked for prices for next year and found a Thomas Cook "Holiday Deaz" brochure on the counter (p16 is Tegusiol and shows the apartments) they look exactly the same in real life.
Basically your holiday is what you make it, you don’t go on holiday to stay in your room however pretty do you? Happy Holidays.
Our rooms were very close to the pub and did become loud if you tried to get to sleep early. We went on excursions so only did this twice but you can’t stop people having fun!

Just back from the Teguisol, first...
5 / 10
Dec 2006, Mr R Taylor

Just back from the Teguisol, first impressions were good, big rooms.
We were in a duplex for 5/6. It soon became apparent that the bathrooms stank of stale urine and after they were cleaned, they still stank. So I bought bleach to clean them.
The towels supplied were brown in colour and also stunk when wet, when we asked for more they were the same.
The upstairs room was spacious but only had skylights for windows so it appeared damp, dark and cold.
As for the maids they could have cleaned better. Others said they had worse others seemed to have a good time.
Overall, I feel it's down to the maid you get, I was in room 643. I would advise to take extra towels and maybe bleach wipes for when you get there.
Would I go back, definitely not.
Didn't eat there, found it expensive to eat and chips with everything.
Chimenea Restaurant just off the beach was nice, also the Atlantic Fish Bar in the main area of the beach.

This place was great, I agree that it...

Dec 2006, Mr Kevin Philips

This place was great, I agree that it could do with a lick of paint and some modernising in the rooms but it’s in a great location. Not right in the middle or too far out.
The pools were clean and the staff made everyone very welcome.
We travelled as a family of 3 with our little one being 4 and she had plenty to keep her occupied.
The prices in the bars are not too far off the standard Costa Teguise prices and you can order snacks with your drinks from the pool bar too, which was great given that it is now out of season.
We had a great holiday, met some fantastic people and would go back in the future. Ignore the negative comments ,paying for 3 stars and wanting 5 stars, see for yourself.

We stayed in room 420 which overlooked the pool - if you can get this one you won't be disappointed.

Just arrived back from the Teguisol...

Dec 2006, Miss J Sargent

Just arrived back from the Teguisol and had a brill time me, my partner and little boy of 2 years.
After reading the comments I was put off about going but my opinion is for all the posh folk out there go book a 5* accommodation, for the price we paid to go here it was fantastic.
Ok it is a little aged but so what you’re on holiday I’ve seen worse. Can’t comment on food as we never ate there.
The entertainment was really good, pools kept spotless although I'm not a lover of salt water it was ok, but a little chilly but didn’t put the kids off.
About a 20 min walk to all restaurants and pubs. The Beach is lovely, probably go back some time in the future and the weather was fab!

Just returned from holiday. Part of...
7 / 10
Nov 2006, Mr P Askew

Just returned from holiday. Part of party of 5 (3 adults and 2 infants (2 years & 4 Months)) so here are our views.
Room was tidy, appliances etc may be a bit dated and getting ready for updating, but all worked and couldn’t really ask for anything else for price we paid.
Maids cleaned the rooms well, gardens/pools were VERY VERY clean, saw them clean the pool in morning and afternoons!! - Water was cold!!
We were half board, breakfast was good choice - both hot and cold, only bad thing would say was if wanted toast would take a good 10 mins to be done! Evening meal was good selection, and varied
The location of the apartments is good only few mins walk into centre of resorts. We had a top floor 2 bed roomed apartment (up 31 steps everytime!!) which was a bit a struggle with a push chair and baby (was aware of this when booked)
The resort is really nice, has a good atmosphere about it. Went on 2 trips, fire mountains was really good, better then expected.
Went to Fuerteventura which was worse trip ever been on!! sold through reps, but no rep was on the boat, didn’t se any dolphins or whales, felt like cattle pen pushed from one point to an other, if it wasn’t for the crew on the boat there would have been no idea which bus to get on etc !! Wouldn’t recommend the trip!
Great holiday for price paid.

It was a really good holiday for all...

Nov 2006, Miss  S Parker

It was a really good holiday for all the family. I was appalled by what the other comments said. We arrived at 7 o'clock at night and it was really nice we were allocated to room 313 it was basic but what can you expect from the price. The meals were ok and the breakfast was really nice. The beaches and shops around them were nice and felt safe. We were near the reception and I didn’t hear anything. There was a nice bar just down the road and we had lunch in there a few days and had a drink in there some others. Generally it was a good holiday.

Stayed in hotel Teguisol in December...
8 / 10
Oct 2006, Mr M Blandford

Stayed in hotel Teguisol in December 05 and had a brilliant time. The night entertainment was really good didn’t get involved in the day entertainment but seemed like everyone was enjoying it.
Hotel was not far from the resort centre without any major slopes or hills. Found that it was cheaper to eat out although cactus jacks was good too much going on for little children. The excursion to the ranch was really good value and my 2 yr old really enjoyed it. For the Sunday market it is better to book at reception but well worth going.
The hotel staff were brilliant we needed a replacement cot and nearly got 2. The hotel shop has really nice fresh rolls in the morning. Overall good holiday and would definitely return.

Returned from our holiday on the 12th...
10 / 10
Oct 2006, Mrs T M Ball

Returned from our holiday on the 12th Oct after having a fantastic 2 week holiday and staying half board at the Teguisesol apartments in Costa Teguise. I would recommend this holiday to anybody especially with children.
Myself my husband and 2 children couldn’t really fault our holiday as we were made really welcome from us arriving to us leaving. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which had plenty of room with all facilities and was very clean. The restaurant had a lot of choice, and we had no problems with the food at all. Always something for the kids which was great. My two children aged 9 and 10 had a great time at the kids world, the only day they didn't go was on a Sunday.
The kids reps were out of this world, they did everything for the kids to have a great time. The entertainment reps were fab, they were there all day and all night. Through the day they did games and quizzes around the pool side. At night they were in the bar doing all kinds of entertainment. The hotel staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We also went on a few excursions. Rancho Texas is a must especially at night and also the south tour which was a full day excursion which takes you up to see the volcanoes.
If you go self catering there is another restaurant called the cave in the complex and also plenty of restaurants and bars (some English). So all the people that have moaned about this place, I don't now what they are talking about because it is the best holiday we have ever had and will be definitely be returning.

What an awful place to stay, well...
3 / 10
Oct 2006, Mrs West

What an awful place to stay, well where do I begin.
Pools ok, food only just appetising, breakfast ok, rooms very basic, but if you want a goods night’s sleep, you won’t get one. The apartments are scattered around the complex with everyone walking pass at ridiculous times in the morning shouting swearing and having no consideration for others. We hadn’t been abroad for 8 years and were really looking forward to going to Lanzarote, but these apartments were terrible. You also need a cheque book for the drink prices, good job we booked half board as the restaurants are expensive to eat in. Chips with everything though even in the morning for breakfast. Don’t book with your rep for trips they are too expensive go into town and book with last minute travel, they are much cheaper and very good, they really look after you.
Costa Teguise is a lovely place to stay for a holiday but not the Teguisol, if you have teenage kids there is nothing for them to do, as the entertainment is so rubbish and cheesy. We went into the small town and around the bars at night which was nice but after 2 weeks you get so fed up with the same old routine.
So I would recommend Costa Teguise but definitely not the Teguisol Apartments. Wouldn’t go back there again in a hurry.
