" never again "

We were looking forward to our week in portugal as we had never been before, but what a let down.we arrived at the apartments at approx 11.30 ish only to find our rooms were not ready.we had to wait until 1.45 before we got into them and after an early set off we were all just wanting to go lie down an hour,2 of our party were 72 year olds.
we got to our rooms to find what we can only say were excuses for beds, old and very dated the bath and shower were so rusty old dirty looking delapidated things that i or my partner could not even bring ourselves to use them so we washed out of the handbasin all week.it was slightly better condition.no air conditioning. The curtains were barly hung at all.
that evening we tried the cafe for our tea and all i can say is yuk.the on site shop had very little in supplys,we were able to get bread ,milk, butter and basics but when we needed to get potatos they had none and nothing to actualy make a proper dinner with.
the bar area outside was dirty, and we spied 2 rats down by the kitchen end.the entertainment was pathetic what there was of it.
the pool itself was black up round the rim the sun loungers were broken and some not the cleanest.the staff were not the freindliest i have had while on holiday anywere i been.
all in all i would not recomend these apartments to anyone. Star rating 3 i think should be a 1

" Silchoro "

I Am Pleased To Say I Enjoyed My Stay At The Silchoro Hotel. It Was A Great Holiday,The Staff Were Very Helpful.I Spent Most Ov My Holiday In The Pool, It Was Really Good But Could Be A Bit Bigger. The Bird Bar Staff ( Russ ) Was A Really Nice Man And Very Pleasant. The Coffee Shop And Resturant Supplied Amaziinly Nice Food But At Very High Prices. Me And My Family Thought The Stripe Was A Great Place To Go For Night Life And We Found 3 Very Nice Resturants The English Kitchen,The Betty Boop And The Cottage Very Cheap And Very Nice Food Jacks Bar The Chore Bar And Coconut Bar Are Very Good For Night Life For Adults And Children. This Hotel Was Very Good EXEPT When We Where Stayiin AT The Hotel 7 Appartments Were Broken Into And Alot Of Money Was Stolen. I Would Not Rent A Safe As They Did Not Help Atal. The Rooms Were A Bit Dated But Still Nice And Cossey. I Hope I Didnt Put Anyone Off This Hotel As It Is Great xx

" bon voyage!! "

I have to say I really enjoyed my stay at these lovely, solid appartments. I have absolutely no complaints regarding the spacious and roomy rooms. Yeah, I guess they are a bit dated, but that just adds to the charm. I will always remember the lovely mornings on the little balconies, drinking tea and watching the world below.
The beds creaked a bit, but then something always does. The problem I had was with a surly member of staff on the reception, I do NOT like being treated in a bad manner by reception staff. The pool was lovely, but a bit chilly, brr!! The facilities are ok, I had no prob's with them, espesh the internet facilities. I cannot comment on the food there as I only had a coffee and that was really nice and milky....
The mini bus to the beach and old town is fab, nice driver and on time. I would recommend folk to use the tour operators on the strip for days out, as Thomas Cook tend to levy an extra charge to pay for the rep. Be warned, with the Ticket Shop they have this tour guide on the trips to Lisbon and historical Algarve who incessantly talks in a motor mouth stylee! You'll certainly know more about olive trees and lemons for sure, let's put it that way!! Ear plugs and i-pods are a must!!
Portugal is a gorgeous and charismatic country, laid back with hot weather. I personally enjoyed the Strip, but then I love tat and neon and people watching. The place can be a bit pricey, tho', oh and watch out for rip off style prices in the little mini market on site.
All in all, a wonderful holiday with no probs, good pick up and good flight home, with the most congenial company who also stayed at the Silchoro, too.....

Advice: a fabulous hilly resort with lots of variety and beautiful sea views.

Activities: Sinatra's bar, the English restaurants on the little square, Nosolo Italian, Israeli showarma.

" Be careful "

Apartments were roomy, beds unfortunately where worse than MFI rejects, slept with mattress on floor most of the week, handyman stuck eight 4 inch screws in bed to stop it squeaking on last night. These apartments have little security if any, yesterday 5th Sept five rooms were broken into and safes opened, cash was taken along with travellers cheques, staff were of little use as there was only the receptionist and the handyman on duty, police took about an hour getting on site, luckily I was leaving that day and all my stuff was in spare room at reception.
Entertainment is almost non existent at apartments, also no TV in room and no air conditioning makes a very uncomfortable room when you have had a scorcher of a day outside, plus points were all electrical items worked, ie: kettle, toaster, microwave, rings, fridge freezer. One loo roll per day is not much use for 3 adults, when I asked for more I was told the local mini market sold them!!
Local beach is unaccessable to those with walking difficulties, they don't call it cardiac hill for nothing! although the old town beach has an escalator which is great, mini bus from apartments will take you there and pick you up twice a day at no charge, plenty of bargains to be had at old town.
The strip is full of places to eat, after going from top to bottom of strip we ended up at the cottage restaurant you will get a great meal for 9 euro's.

Advice: old town beach the best

Activities: Cottage restaurant

" Rubbish "

Me and my mum went to stay at the Silchoro apartments self catering for 2 weeks but had but had to shorten our stay to 1 week only as mum had a accident in the coffee shop and hurt all her knee. We think this maybe due to young children coming in from the pool with wet feet and needed to use the toilet. We found the room very dirty and there was broken glass on the floor which hadnt been Swepted up and there was mould on the bath mat and the windows was dirty. Hotel staff was very friendly. However our Thomson holiday rep was a load of rubbish and she was never around. Execusions was also very expensive and was cheaper outside of the hotel. We had booked Zoomarine to swim with the dolphins and our holiday rep never told us till the day before we were due to go and just went ahead and booked another day without confirming it with us. Although the people there were very friendly. We would not recomend Thomson to anybody.

Advice: Its a nice area

Activities: The Little Britain bar

" A fab time at silchoro "

my family and i have just returned from the silchoro apartments,i must admit after reading the reviews i was very apprehensive about staying here.I took my two children with me age 4 and 10 and have to say i don't understand why people are moaning about this hotel. We had a one bedroom apt and the rooms were really big, although the decor isnt up to date it is typical portugese style tillig. The maids came in every day and made the beds and took out rubbish, they changed the beds twice a week and gave us clean towels every other day.We had a bath with a shower and all the utensils you could need in the kitchen. The two pools were great a baby pool and a large pool. There was also a tennis court with bats and balls for hire. There was an on site store for your essential's and a snack bar and small pub. There is also internet access available. The hotel is only a ten minute walk to the strip were you can have some fab nights out.We also went on some great trips out one to the zoo marine and one to slide and splash which i highly recommend. The staff were very pleasent and friendly. We had agreat time and great weather and wouldn't hesitate at staying here again. We only paid £1400 for two weeks for 4 people. Please don't be put off by other people's reviews just try it for yourself,ALBUFERIA is a fab place to stay and if you have little ones you must check out coconuts one the strip for entertainment in the evening. We all look forward to returning to porugal next year.

" I have only recently returned this... "

I have only recently returned this month and I felt obliged to write a few words.
Every other comment seems to sum the place up. Dated, noisy. These are all true, the place is definitly in need of reburbishment, but as one lady wrote, you are on holiday and spend very little time in your apts anyway. The staff weren't the best in the world, one tracked mind if you ask me. Just come to work and go home, they need to zest, some personality!

I also didn't appreciate having travelled all evening, not being to bed and been up since 07:00 am the previous day, to then be told our room wouldn't be ready for 2 and a half hours. Come on, what a joke that was. I was tired, hungry and in need of freshening up. This needs sorting, definitly one big negative of the holiday.

Also, disappointingly we had workmen in the next door but one apt. I appreciate work must be done, but the hours were what I would classify as unsocialable and it was deeply frustrating being woken up by drilling when the walls are paper thin as it is.

Safety - I feel that the Silchoro apts don't offer you much in the way of this. The locks and latches on doors/windows etc are very much in need of updating. I won't to be able to feel safe when we go to bed on an evening and I aren't ashemed to say I felt uneasy a couple of nights.

We didn't spend much time at the apts through the day, we spent much of our 'sun-catching' at the beach and what a great beach it is, well worth going to Oura Beach.

Albufeira is a great place if you ask me, I would undoubtedly go back again, not to Silchoro, I would find somewhere else, but yes definitly Albufeira. It is a very nice place place in deed.

Please note, yes, you do get stopped occassionally and asked if you want to buy hash, but these guys understand ''no thank you,'' they never give you any grief and simply move on to the next passer by.

One last comment, we went went with Thomas Cook, which I can strongly say was a mistake. They are a money grabbing, shameful and scamful company. We reported to Jenna the rep our disapproval of being next door to work men and she simply shrugged it off. Stay away from Thomas Cook - joke!

" Hi All,

Firstly I must... "

Hi All,

Firstly I must say Albufeira is a wonderfull holiday resort, has an awful lot to offer, the weather is generally amazing and it is well worth a visit!.....however DO NOT stay at these appartments!!!

I can cope with the long treck to the beach, the irritating, repetitive R&B music by the pool, no change of towels or bed sheets and elevators with a mind of their own.......with it only being 7 days.....on holidays....you tend to overlook theses small mishaps and try to make the most of it etc etc! BUT why I urge others to reconsider their choice of accom. is due to the fact that we had horrendous showers ALL week.....there was v little/no warm water, it wasnt fixed and no other alternative was offered......therefore cold showers were had all week! Also the rooms were not cleaned and no new toilet paper was provided! NOT GOOD!!! Espically when we met others holidaying at the same time who got much better deals!

Im not being cranky....just brutally honest....DONT STAY HERE!!!

" The Silchoro apartments where pretty... "

The Silchoro apartments where pretty bog standard, a bit dated and noisy. We booked a room with a double bed, when we arrived we found two single sofas which you had to put together every day, which was a little irritating. The bedding was only changed once during our 7 night stay, I don't believe that this is any standard to go by.

The staff at the hotel where very pleasant and couldn't fault them in anyway.

Albufeira itself is a long strip of 'tat and cheap junk stores' which lacks any Portuguese culture what so ever. It's packed full of English orientated ASBO football bars, there's cheap and cheerful and there's CHEAP and cheerful. If Blackpool or Rhyl where 15 degrees hotter you'd pretty much have Albufeira. The Old Town (the name suggesting tiny mazes of Portuguese old style village and shops) was everything but that. It was like a mass of even more 'tat' stores and the same restaurant around every corner.

The only reason I'm rating this holiday as 5 is due to the weather and beaches.

" I don`t understand why people would... "

I don`t understand why people would whine so much about this hotel!
Of course it`s not the best hotel in the world, but it was fine,really...

Yeah, the beds made noises, the dogs barked, the staff were so and so,but come on,
who`s gonna spend most of the time at the hotel?!on a vacation you`re supposed to be at the beach, party and have fun and only come back to sleep....geezzz

I wouldn`t come back to this hotel, but I would definitely come back to Albufeira:)
I loved Praia da oura,Zoo marine, the day trip to Sevilla,Spain and the best place to party is at Cafe del mar!!!!!

Me and my best friend had the time of our lives down in Albufeira:)

" After reading what other people have... "

After reading what other people have written about this hotel i felt i needed to do a review!
I stayed hear with 3 friends for a week in april. we booked it last minute and only payed £150 each (flights and hotel). we didnt expect much, as we had got it very cheap!
before going we read quite a few bad reviews so we were all a little worried! when we arrived in portugal it was raining, but as we go into albufeira it brightened up!
we arrived at the hotel and our romm was ready straight away! we got to our room and were pleasanty suprised! it was very spacious, a room with 2 beds and a room with 2 sofas (which were actually comfier than the beds) the bathroom was huge and extremely clean!
we had a room with a pool view, which was nice, and it was very quiet at night, couldnt hear the road! we had maid service every day bar 1, and clean towels 6 days out 7! we had our bed sheets changed twice in 1 week! it was very very clean!
its about a 10/15min walk to the main bars and shops, not too bad! taxis r no more than 5euros and u can go anywhere! theres a free bus to the old town and the beach!
the only bad thing i could say is the food wasnt amazing. it took long time for it to come and it wasnt very hot. ok for pool side snacks though!!!
i had never stayed in a hotel with less than 5 stars before, but in coming with my friends we couldnt afford anything to posh! but i would honestly recomend this place!
maybe we jus got lucky!! oh but watch out for the lifts they have no interior walls!!!

" We arrive on 11th May 08 to a place... "

We arrive on 11th May 08 to a place we thought we would enjoy as our 1st holiday as a couple together. We arrived at 9.30am to a dull day in Portugal!!!

When we arrived at Silchoro at 10.30am, were informed to leave our bags and go get a drink because our rooms were not ready! They would not be ready until 2pm. We all had to stay in our clothes we have travelled in until then! We all went into the hotel cafe/bar to get a drink, where the staff we so friendly but no complmantry drink was offered. We Then decided to get something to eact which was ok and weather had starting to brighten up so we were getting all warm and sweaty, while we waited to get into our room.

Eventually we got into our room (Studio) which then had 2 couches which we had to put together to make a bed i wasnt impressed with so i went to speak to my hol rep and she wasnt there so the receptionist then asked what was wrong so i explained in brouche it was shown as 2 beds not 2 couches she then showed us another room with 2 beds so we decided to take that and push to beds together. After the first week i picked up i bug and was very, very ill for the full week. We then had to call a doctor, i dont know if this bug had come from the room as they wasnt 100% clean.

The second night we decided we would have something to eat in our room we come to use the cooker and it would heat up, Self catering you expect cooker to be working, yet again we had to complain and ended up going out for tea into the hotel restraunt the choices werent excellent but we eventally found something we liked. We then went to the bird bar for s drink were the member of staff was not very help or very happy. On ou second week of our holiday our toilewt leeked and we then had to report that and we had to leave our room for a few hours while the toilet was replaced.

One week into the holiday we thought that our beds would have been changed ready for our second week, how wrong were we! Our beds were not changed once whilst we were there! Now in all fairness the room was cleaned every day but only at 5.30pm when we were cuming back to our room to either have a nap or to get changed for nite time, this made me think thye may have forgot us.

As for entertainment in this hotel, on a Monday night was live music which was really rubbish. Tuesday was a no entertainment at all which was very boring. Wednesday again there was no entertainment which yet again was very boring. Thursday they had quiz & bingo nite which was ok, Friday yet again no entertainment how rubbish, Saturday night no entertainment, and Sunday they had family games nite! Every evening they had happy hour which dodnt get many people in they need to put mote entertainment on in this hotel. There was also a night club in these apartments, but again it was never open for us to see! There was absolutely nothing to do for kids apart from run around the little gift shop in the main hall, how boring can that be for a child.

As many people do when they are on holiday they like to have fun in theses hotel's this was hard to do. All we wanted to do at an evening was get some gud food in our hotel and relax with some entertainment in our hotel bar but guess what they didnt have entertainment, NOT THIS HOTEL!!!

On the other hand, we visited some lovely places old town, which is lovely to walk round, also Lagos and Sarges Trip we did was good and also the jeep Safari definitely worth trying.

On the strip there were also some fantastic places to eat and get a drink from, but we was put of when walking down the strip and we were asked if we wanted to buy any (ash, canabis, coke, etc) this is not the sort of thing you go on holiday for, this out me and my partner of venturing down to the strip of an evening.

Albufeira is a nice place but i will never recommend going there to anyone unless they stay closer to the strip or the old town i will not be returning in a hurry.

" this is the 7th time i have stayed in... "

this is the 7th time i have stayed in these apartments and they are still as good as before.

the staff as still friendly and welcome you with a smile. rooms are always cleaned except a tuesday. the 2 bedroom apartment for 6 is the best as it has 2 main bedrooms and living room with 2 sofa beds.

the pool area is very clean and food is ok for light snacks and lunches but not dinner time.

i would def recommend it to people.
