Silchoro Apartments

We booked a holiday with a party of 14 and I am so glad we booked it with so many of us otherwise it could have been quite a boring experience for the young ones.
The food was great and value for money, however my bedding was not changed at all whilst I was there and we found that when we were locking our windows and making apartments secure the maid service were opening them back up.
Consequently on the day before our departure our apartment room was robbed along with 6 other apartments. All the guests that were robbed of money and valuables were leaving for the UK the following day so there was little time to make formal complaints as the manager was not around and would not return to the complex.
The staff were no help and when I asked for food for the party as we now had no funds to pay for it was refused. I had to wait for my rep to arrive at the apartment.
After speaking to many guests and some locals I was told that maids are often opening windows when guests close them and rooms being robbed in multiples is a common occurrence.
There are no daily activities for children; the BBQ is a good night but mainly for adults. The karaoke starts at 9.30 and if not finished by 11.30 complaints are made. (so we were told).
Loved the country disliked Silchoro apartments and would not recommend it to anyone. Apartment was very spacious but cockroaches were found in 4th floor apartments. This is definitely not a 3 star apartment as Thompson stated in their brochure.

Was very pleased with every thing about the apartments they were a good size (for a studio) very clean, maids came every day apart from Tuesday, regular towel and bedding changes. The pool was fantastic only problem was limited sun beds and although there was a notice about not reserving sun beds people still did and there would be a que at the door by 8 30 and some people would put towels on the beds and not come down all day but on the plus side they were free.
An excellent pool side bar did good food at a fair price also an on site mini market which to was a fair price.
The free bus down to the beach and old town was reliable and saved the walk up cardiac hill which we only did once, its a killer you can see why it got its name. A trip on the bus to the old town is a must fantastic beach, shops and restaurants and if you stay later in the evening the bus back is only 1 euro.
The apartments has a bar which is open till 1am which has karaoke twice a week but closes on a Tuesday when the bar b q is on a great night and cheap 10 euros as much as you can eat and drink (sangria) as well as a live band who were great. We had an excellent holiday and would love to go back.

This was my first trip to Portugal and am happy to have picked Silchoro apartments, they were clean, spacious and well looked after. Maid service very good.
The staff were extremely friendly. Had a good bar, coffee shop and restaurant. Excellent pool, bar and reception.
Apartments were only a five minute walk from the main strip, which wall full of excellent bars and restaurants. Silchoro provides a free bus service down to the strip’s lovely beach and to the Old Town (definitely worth a visit if you get a chance).

Having been informed by our tour operator a few months before travelling, that all the entertainment, bars and restaurant had been closed in these apartments we were pleasantly surprised to find on arrival, that these facilities were still in use. (Don’t know why we were told this, the rep could not offer any explanation either).
We had a one bed roomed apartment, which was quite spacious and very clean. The pots/pans/cutlery was a bit dated, but didn’t matter much as we ate out most of the time. The room was cleaned every day bar Tuesday.
The reception staff and the bar staff we ever so friendly and any requests were dealt with more or less straight away. All other facilities were pretty good.
Ate out on 'the strip' nearly every night and didn’t have one bad meal. Best places to eat were The Cottage at the top end of the strip and Mary Ann’s towards the bottom bit. Didn’t attempt Cardiac Hill, used the free bus from the apartments which takes you to Oura beach or to the old town of Albufeira. (Visit the square in the evening, there’s loads of street entertainers to watch).
First visit to Portugal, but would recommend it as its very clean and the locals are very friendly.
Beware if you hire a car, the local traffic police seem to enjoy watching out for tourists committing traffic offences and take great delight in giving out on the spot fines!! Didn’t happen to us but we saw it happen a couple of times.
