Don Pablo rates itself a four star...
6 / 10
Sep 2005, Mr F Wright

Don Pablo rates itself a four star hotel, this hotel is only worth 3 stars, dining room service abysmal, they cannot be bothered to clear your table therefore as we were 4 at a table the pots just grew and grew, the waiters old men approx 60years old had no intention of being pleasant or offering to clear tables, the fresh fruit on offer was something the markets throw out simply disgusting uneatable rubbish. All in all the dining room atmosphere had much to be desired.
Hotel situation excellent. Cleanliness was good. Maids were very pleasant, entertainment was exceptional ,swimming pools in the hotel of excellent standard. All in all if they sorted the dining room and food quality out and made it more inviting it is a decent hotel. One final word plenty of sun beds never short.

First the good bits:- Very nicely situated for beach, town centre and within 15 minutes walk from dozens of bars and restaurants catering for every nationality and budget. Plenty of free (a big plus point with me) sun beds in a variety of locations either by the pools and poolside bar/restaurant or on one of the quieter sun decks. As a guest at the hotel you have the use of the facilities of both neighbouring hotels, the Don Pedro and Don Marcos both connected by private walkways giving a choice of six pools to swim or play in. Rooms ok, a bit dated, not double glazed but sufficient. Staff well mannered, prompt but could crack a smile once in a while. Food very plentiful and generally good. The evening entertainment was very good when a professional artiste was performing but the shows put on by the resident performers were a bit am dram, a lot of bad dancing whilst miming to a sound track, but 10/10 for trying.
The bad points:- we were in a room on the eastern side that overlooks the evening entertainment area, it was very noisy right up to midnight every night. Not everybody wants to stay up late every night, especially those, like us, who have young children. Ensure you get a room overlooking the bowling greens. A lot of the vegetables served at dinner were tinned. Only the under sixes seemed to be catered for in the kids club

I don’t believe any hotel can be perfect which is why I have only given it a 9/10, but truly this hotel is great! all you could ask for in a typical Spanish 4* hotel.
I booked this as a last minute idea and booked directly from the website solmelia.com, very easy site to use instant booking & availability online plus very good prices.
The staff at the hotel we found to be very good, and the standard of the rooms and cleanliness exceptional.
However the ‘original Costa del Sol’ is not really that bad and close to the airport, got ripped off by a taxi be careful ask before you ride! its only 11 euros to get to the hotel from the airport also the train service to the coast is regular and cheap.

This is a nice hotel, located very...
7 / 10
Dec 2004, Mr I Macmillan

This is a nice hotel, located very near the beach. I found the room was quite large, with a trouser press, a mini fridge, and TV with BBC1. The food varied. Breakfast: The sausages were a bit dubious. The bacon was the usual streaky type. But plenty of choice otherwise. Evening meal: The chefs seem to have a penchant for fish, fish, and more fish. Otherwise food was quite tasty. Bar: The prices in the bar seem to be quite expensive. For example, a pint of lager was €3.50, around the corner at Lowry’s, etc. it was €2.00. I flew with flyglobespan (no-frills). Was delayed 2 hrs going out, 1 hour going back. If you want something to eat on the plane, take your own, as there’s not a great choice and it’s expensive.

Good location opposite Bajilla beach....
8 / 10
Jul 2004, Mrs M McGuff

Good location opposite Bajilla beach. A few small supermarkets, restaurants and trivia shops nearby with a better selection in Carihuela - approx 15 mins walk. Torremolnos centre 10 mins walk - up a steep hill - use nearby stairway or elevator at 50c.
Above average accommodation. Well maintained rooms, facilities and public areas. Generally, polite and helpful staff, although the waiters could perhaps smile now and again!
Buffet only breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. Lunch served in separate restaurant overlooking the beach. Poor selection of starters and main course. Dubious quality sausage and bacon didn’t augur well for typical English breakfast, however, a good selection of croissants and cakes was provided.
Not so good facilities/activities for kids 12 upwards. No games room, satellite TV or video channels although computers /Internet access available at 1euro for 15mins.
Swimming pools good although all over 2.1m deep, meant you couldn’t stand on the bottom to keep cool but had to permanently swim or tread water.
In conclusion, would definitely go back.
