Sunwing Resort Fanabe Reviews
" I'd recommend this hotel to anyone !!! "
Submitted By: lee_kearnsThe reception staff were very very polite and spoke great english(they were swedish like everyone who works there)and were a pleasure to talk to , check in took 5-10 mins and we were in our room within 15 mins from off the bus.
When we got to the room, we had requested a sea view and we were told they only had 3 sea view rooms and we had 1 of them so all good there, room was very clean and smelt nice, it was on the road but with door open or shut it was not noisy and we were only 1 floor up.
Poolside was also very good, clean, not noisy, and well maintained, including by a lifeguard who was on duty all the time, also round the poolside was a very attractive swedish girl doing aerobics for all the kids and ladies wanting exercise, I got a few slap's round the ear for looking at her, Think I will take sunglasses next year,
Location was excellent beach 5 mins walk and loadsa shops all around it as well as one right below our room so we were well stocked and for nice cheap price.
Only gripe I have was at the price of food and drinks in the hotel bar, which was expensive but the food looked amazing and the cocktails were so strong we were literally legless after 2 or 3.
We went with the intention of partying and relaxing and got a fair share of both here,
As i say I would recommend hotel to any one of any age, especially just before peak times
Advice: Loads of bars and cheap restaurants, all wanting your business so barter with them on the price
Activities: We ate at lots of different restaurants all were brilliant, not 1 fault with any, try them all out !
Good for: Beach

most of the hotel is full of swedes and they are so rude, pushing past on the stairs etc..
the "daytime entertainment" for my 10 year old consisted of one game of water polo each day at 3.30pm. the only other thing for his age was a youth room with a dvd player, pool table (seen better days) and a dart board.
for the adults there was one game of volleyball each day at 4.30pm that's it.
evening entertainment don't even bother with. for the kids were four people dressed in the worst costumes you have seen a bear, racoon and others, they spoke mostly in swedish.
hotel singers are rubbish we suffered through an abba evening which was terrible. i never knew bjorn was 15 stone!!
the hotel showbar is a NO NO. watered down wee was what we got at 5.70 a cocktail!! never went back. everything is shut by 11pm too. tuesday and fridays entertainment is from 8pm till 9pm then shut!!!
hotel restaurant didn't even try because of the prices.
welcome barbeque was 20euros each so we didn't go to that either.
poolside bar and snacks- slush puppie 3 euros, chips 3 euros and weren't cooked properly.
Advice: more for the party animals but some good shops
Activities: siam park was excellent and the medieval night too
Good for: Beach

Submitted By: lisa.hastingsThe hotel in itself was pretty nice. The room - which was able to sleep 3 adults (or 2 adults, 2 children) was really clean, fairly spacious and had everything you needed, for the woman there was a huge double wardrobe with mirrored fronts! the beds were comfy, and the kitchen had everything in apart from a toaster - but the microwave was good, the coffee-maker great and all the utensils you can think of - apart from scissors! we loved our room, and the bathroom was even better - spotlessly clean, huge mirrors, his n hers sinks, shaving mirror - which is brilliant when doing your make-up, hair dryer (not the best in the world but useful all the same), decent bath with over shower and plenty of towels.
The balacony looked out over the pool, which was really nice - but we did ask for one - so if you want one, ask for one when you book! you can get street views - but no sea views! Our room (208) was on the same level as reception and placed on the buisiest corridor - so at night we often hear families (not teenagers) coming home, and children running along the corridor - not the best!
Reception staff are brilliant, give good advice, helpful and friendly! Anything you need they will do and if there are problems in the room, someone comes to sort it out almost immediately, and they follow this up with a courtesy phone call! bless! The maid service is good, they cleanr the room every day aprat from wed/sun - and they leave you a note to remind you the day before, they also provide a washing basket in the room, so you place dirty towels and sheets in this when you want them changing - which we thought was a pretty good idea.
The on-site factilities - are good, the gym is decent and the shop (expensive but useful). There is a netto (which is the main supermarket out there) just 2 min up the road which is cheeper, and we used more than the on-site shop. The resturant is the major down-side of the hotel - we disliked it alot! Firstly it is expensive (8 euros for a sandwich) and this is the only sadnwhich they do! drinks are also expensive and there is little choice of food - it was rubbish - so we had to eat out and buy in and cook, every day! there is also no on-site bar - well there is one show bar in the room were the shows are but there is not one were you can sit and drink in and talk to other people, which again lets the hotel down. The nightime entertainment is cheeesy but funny, especially if you have young kids.
all in all the hotel is good, it good do with some alterations to the restuarant but the cleansliness and friendlieness was brilliant!!!
Now to the area, Fanabe is hilly! we got told it was flat and while the prom is fairly flat (this is where some shops n resturants are) to walk to it is hilly, alot of the shops are up hills going away from the prom, and there are lots of steps!!! there are some ramps - but you have to go down steps to get the the beach! - my dad has walking difficulties and this caused some problems for him, so be aware of this fact!
The beach is ok, grainy hot sand, good amount of sunbeds - which are 9 euros for 2 for a day. The sea is not calm, big waves, very salty but fun to be in - jumping over waves etc. There were infaltable assult course things in the sea, with life-guard present and life-jackets available.
There are lots of shops, lots of choice. Resturants are good, priced ok, much chice but some along the front have closed, we mainy went to restuarants off the from, a little more expensive but better quality. Bars - well not many, mainly on front but not much choice. One pub, which is just around the corner from sunwing, english couple run it - small but nice.
We want to Playa de las Americas for a day - more shops, bars, resturants, places to go and see. we walked back to Fanabe - it took about an hour - with a break to eat, was a lovely walk and even with dad's walking difficulties he managed (with plenty of sit downs). We also went to Los Christianos - not much to see really, came back after and hour n half.
Overall our holiday was great, we had a nice time, ate lots, drank lots and chilled out.
What made out holiday were our trips (booked through the rep and very expensive - but there are excursion shops near the front - with good reputations)
Loro parque (animal park) - the shows here are brilliant!! we loved them and there is a penguin planeterium - fantastic! but the rest of the park in like any other zoo anywhere. It was expensive, it was also 1.5 hours to get there and was all in all a 12 hour day - exhausting. but the whale show made it all worth it, and the dolphin and sea lion shows too!!!
Free-bird VIP - again expensive, food and drink free (food rubbish - drinks ok), saw pilot whales up close to the boat, and dolphins, swan in the sea, got a nice tan, lasted 4 hours. decent trip.
Mount Teide - expensive but a must!!!! on a coach travel above the clouds (literally) and see the sites of tenerife, go on the cable car up the volcano. It is really interesting, and nice day out to see the views!!! about a 7/8 hour day! but brilliant.
Show time - The sound of musicals! - nice night out. 5 min journey to theatre (which is small but nice) have a full roast dinner - which was actually ok, free drinks all night, pudding, and watch the show, funny and entertaining, bit cheesy and done by only 5 people, but a good night out. Really enjoyed it, lots of old and young there, and no matter where you sit u can see.
The main downer to our holiday was that we were both ill - i had a bad stomach for 9 days - the pharmicies are helpful and give medicines over the counter. Dad had a stomach bug that was going around.
Overall it was a good time - if we went back we may go to las americas instead, but the hotel is nice, the area is ok, the peoples are great.
Recommended:
La Brassier
First and Last (bar) - cheesy entertainment - but liveliest place about
Gran Reserva (on the front - not by the hotel - they are moody in there)
One on the way to the front, down a hill opposite the arcades! lovely - we went there about 7 times!! brilliant food, staff great and only small!!!
moonlight (bar)
Have fun!!!

Submitted By: tanyafranklinthe hotel is extremely clean, the maids come around every day except sunday and wednesday. i had a lovely one bed apartment looking onto the mountains with a round tub off the main bedroom, and it was massive. my little 3 year old wanted a bath every night in it, and it look about 30 mins to fill it. there is onsite restaurants which were fine but to be honest going out is far better, only being there the fist week in june there wasnt really any atmosphere in them. the pool area was clean, no glass allowed. there is a life guard on duty(which most of the time i think he was havinbg a wee doze)lol. the reception staff can speak english and are very helpfull. you can hire an iron and board for 3 euros per day but the board stands on 3 legs haha seriously!!!!
there is kids activities on all the time with a bear and giraffe strolling around in the afternoons allowing you to take pictures, tresure hunts, face painting and other fun things. Ben spent most of the time in the pool so we didnt have that much to do in the kids zone, for the older childre there is a room in reception with computer consoles etc.
the area itself was fantastic, we ate in the lttle italy restaurant, if you love this food, this place was brill....a bit pricier than others, but it pays off. we went to the first and last(come out of the hotel, down to the beach turn left down the stairs and turn right) brilliant craic, some good acts too. this place should not be missed.... the people are brilliant and they never let you sit with an empty glass!!
you must try the loro parque.. its quite a long time to get to but worth it, they have a dolphin show and a whale show. there is a ice berg in the place... its amazing. also try the siam park, oh my god this water park is brilliant craic. big water slides a kiddies zone with water guns and a fake beach with 6ft waves. it is 28 euros to get in but you spend all day there with a free bus to and from the place
on the beach there is a lot of watersports and its very clean... i could go on woth the praises but this place was brilliant and i will defo be going back the same time next year. plus you meet some great folk!!!

Submitted By: lynne2The foyer looked like the brochure like IKEA, spacious and modern, but the accommodation was the opposite. The one bedroom appartment was no more than a small studio. The kids had to sleep in the small kitchenette. One on the couch and one on a matress on the floor.
This was totally unnacceptable for two weeks. The hotel staff could do nothing about it as the hotel was full. We paid a suppliment aswell because one of the kids was uner 18!
The hotel was clean, but bed linen and towels were only changed if you stripped your beds and placed laundry in a linen basket "to save the environment", and even then sometimes they were left and you had to remake your bed at the end of the day with linen that had been in a linen basket all day.
Sunbeds and umberellas were scarce, and unless you were up at the crack of dawn each day you couldn,t get one.
It was not value for money at all, in fact it was expensive to stay in such cramped conditions - there was only one three seater couch in the appartment (my daughters bed), so to escape the miday sun in the appartment or to have some lunch was not pleasurable, just cramped and uncomfortable. Sitting in reception - if you could get a seat was the better option. Agreed you dont go to Teneriffe in August to sit inside all day, but sometimes it was a necessity.
This accommodation does not cater for a grown up family like ours, yet it will happily take bookings from them. I would not reccommed this hotel to a friend.
Advice: Good bars and resturaunts
Activities: The resturaunt underneath the sunwing - fantastic!

" If you've booked a holiday to this... "
Submitted By: Miss A CWe arrived late at night (room 425) and I was very disappointed to find our view was of souvenir shops and two pubs. The english pub was quiet enough but the spanish pub played loud music to entertain the even louder spanish people! Although we were on the 4th floor, the hotel is built on a hill so we were actually at ground level and had a terrace instead of a balcony. As the terrace was edged with plants, we had a problem with cockroaches in our apartment. There was SIX in our room the night we arrived!! There was a huge round window above the bath which of course looked out over the shops and pubs so if you wanted to shower in the evening, you had to keep the lights out (by the way, cockroaches love the dark!) The patio doors in the living room didn't lock, only one side of the sliding bedroom doors opened and the bathroom window didn't close properly. By now i was very stressed after the flight and the airport losing my luggage so when i found a cockroach running across the bed it was the last straw for me! We went to reception (me in floods of tears and my boyfriend in disgust that this was "supposedly" a 4* hotel) and asked to move rooms. We've NEVER complained before and i hated having to do it but the girl on reception was lovely. She explained how they were fully booked and had nowhere to move us to BUT she would send someone to spray our room for the cockroaches and somebody would be out first thing the next morning to fix the doors and windows. It was fantastic how quickly the problems were being dealt with! Within 5 minutes of returning to our room, a guy was there to spray the apartment and 9am the next morning someone else arrived and fixed the doors and window. We got a note under the door that afternoon to say a request for a room change had been filed and an exterminator would be out within 24hrs for the cockroaches. After a few more days the amount of cockroaches was dwindling down so when we got another note giving us the option to move further down the hall, we decide against it. The cleaners do a FANTASTIC job and always smile and say hello when you walked passed them in the corridors (instead of pushing you out of the way like they do in most spanish hotels!) My boyfriend had a migraine late one evening and the girl on reception was so helpful and even gave us a map with directions to a 24hr chemist. I couldn't fault them! Our flight home wasn't until midnight but we couldn't keep our room on for an extra day as they were fully booked but the hotel offers courtesy rooms which you can book for half an hour to have a quick shower etc before your flight. I will definately go back to Fanabe and would stay in Sunwing but i'll be requesting a pool view before booking next time. For lovely inexpensive food i highly recommend Busby's cafe. (come out the front door and turn right. Take the first left and it's about half way down on the right hand side of the street) The owners are lovely and the food is delicious! They also do take-away food which is really handy if you're going on day trips rather than paying over the odds inside parks etc. We had heard bad reports about the monkey park between Las Americas and Los Christianos but we enjoyed it. It cost 10 euros in a taxi and 10 euros each to get in. The park needs as much money as it can get as none of the tour operators advertise it so please buy some of the bags of food at the gate so you can hand feed the monkeys. We also went on the half day Teide trip (bring warm clothes as it's really freezing when you get off the cablecars at the top) and the Royal Delfin glass bottomed boat trip to Los Gigantes. We seen pilot whales and dolphins right beside the boat! Most of the food and soft drinks onboard are free and the views of the cliffs are breathtaking. You also get the chance to jump off the back of the boat and go for a swim to cool off when they stop for lunch. Enjoy your holiday... wish it was me!!

Submitted By: Miss JM McLoughlinThe Sunwing Apartments were the best we have stayed in, spacious enough for the 3 of us, the maids did an excellent job 5 days a week, the whole resort is spotlessly clean even the toilets dotted around are always clean and stocked with loo roll and tissues.
Room was split into 2 with a sliding door. Large wardrobes, and 2 sinks in bathroom.
Beds were very comfy and there is a large sofa bed in the lounge with a pull out bed underneath. Small kitchen area with utensils from Ikea, you have to hire a toaster for 6 euros per week, and balcony with chairs and table. We never saw any cockroaches in these apartments so don't worry.
Resort is run by Swedish and they seem to reserve the best apatments for them, as ours faced a street but there are royal family apartments facing the pool, these are not in our brochures.
Staff were friendly and spoke excellent english.
Pool area has loads of sunbeds and parasols, you are not meant to reserve them but everyone does, there is a member of staff who will move towels off beds up until about 9.30am everyday if you are not sitting on them. The pool is open from 8-10am for adults only, as after this time it is very busy with kids all day. Lifeguard on duty from 10am.
It gets extremely hot here until about 8.30pm so take lots of suncream. There is plenty of activities for kids, water polo, scuba diving in pool, pool tables, table tennis, squash court, playstation room 2 euros for 1 hour, youth activities room with dvds etc, we hardly saw our son all day he had a ball and made loads of friends.
Mini market on site is extremely expensive for things like pasta, savoury rice, pot noodles, i suggest you take these with you, drinks for kids though were only 1 euro so that was not bad, suncream was 26 euros! so definately take your own. There is a netto just around the corner which has everything you may need but it is not that cheap, there is a cheaper supermarket in the commercial centro across the road and down the stairs which we only discovered a day before we went home!
The beach is a few minutes walk downhill, it is volcanic sand so be careful not to walk on it with bare feet as it will burn you!, there is an inflatable iceberg in the sea which costs 10 euros for 1 hour, the kids and adults had a great time on this.
There is a traffic free promenade which is lovely to walk along at night when it is cooler, there are plenty of things for the kids down here like mini golf, trampolines, motorised scooters for hire 10 euros 30 mins, there is also a lovely air conditioned bowling alley called Harleys in the centro commerical around the corner from the sunwing.
There are loads of bars, shops and restaurants along here and up all the little side streets, a few good restaurants are:
Gran Reserva, just right of the sunwing, paella and wine here excellent, staff quite arrogant though.
Capri little italy in the centro commercial, beautiful italian restaurant great pasta.
Colonial english pub here also, all football games on here and it has a lovely restaurant serving great food for adults and kids.
Pheonix city chinese was good, our son loved the crispy duck.
If you walk about 15 mins along the bay you will come to Playa Torviscas which has a lovely bay and is also lined with bars, shops restaurants,
Auntys serves excellent battered fish.
Asian Dream is a great indian here aswell.
Harleys american diner is excellent
Macdonalds is also along the promenade for the kids.
Bentleys english pub is good for breakfast and cheap.
There is a market on thursdays and saturdays not far from sunwing, where u will find all your souvenirs etc.
The Aqualand is about 20 mins walk from hotel, there is a free bus there at 10am across the road, there is a brilliant dolphin show included in the price.
The looky looky men are everywhere and if u ignore them they will stop pestering u, also people trying to drag u into restaurants is annoying as some of them are in your face.
This is a really great family resort and children are welcome everywhere you go, if you want nightlife its only 3km to Playa de las americas, we went there one night and had a lovely chinese meal, prices are a bit more expensive than in costa adeje.
I would recommend these apartments and this resort to anyone with kids as they will love it, would defo go back.
