Riu Nautilus is a fantastic hotel! I went there with my husband and 3 children, 2 are teenagers and the other is 6. The location is perfect as it's right on the beach, which we walked along in the evening as the entertainment was a bit of a disappointment, though there is... more

My wife and I (both early 40's) visited this hotel (nearer Belnamadena than Torremolinos) for 10 days in June 2007. Very impressed with accommodation, outside pool and friendliness of staff. Food selection very good but we like to dine out occasionally so visited the... more

The Riu hotel group offer everything which is first class. Food, accommodation and position of the hotel are just so good, one does not want to stay in any other hotel. Torremolinos is a resort which has a lot to offer. An excellent promenade for walking with delightful... more

Excellent Hotel
7 of us arrived for a golf holiday and stayed at this hotel for a week. The food was the best ever. Rooms were very well presented and clean. The maids were very conscientious. The pool area was very acceptable with sun beds available whenever you chose to use the pool side. The drinks were a little more expensive than elsewhere, but that is the norm. I would recommend this hotel without reservation to anyone, who may be thinking of staying at this hotel. We would definitely stay at this hotel again
Good hotel
I would confirm everything that has been said, Food great, rooms clean, staff very freindly. I did complain that tv has 7 german channels and no english other than sky news and cnn. No clock in room or writing paper. no tea or coffee in room. Hotel caters for elderly visiters. we are youngsters in late 40's. Again food was really good and rooms clean, which is what you want. Marina 200yards away for shops etc. Watch out for pick pockets on buses. Scratch card guys on promenade who are time share punters. Flower sellers in marina. Pick pockets work behind them!
nice hotel
Stayed four nights early feb, very clean good sized rooms with a fair priced bar tarrif. Agree with other reviews not for children or the under 60s.Whilst we were there a number of people had spoken about a number of break ins at other accomodations and even two people had recently been Mugged,at night the area around the hotel after 10pm was like a ghost town which was disturbing when walking home. If the information is correct the problem needs sorting very quickly given the age of the clients visiting the area during the winter time
Great For Winter Break
If you are in our age bracket (65+) this is the hotel to stay at for a winter break.Mostly German guests but you would expect that being a Riu hotel but do not be put off everyone was very friendly and English is widely spoken. Staff were exceptionally polite and helpful in every department. Not a winter hotel for children as there is no kids club etc ( good i hear the oldies say haha ). Entertainment not top class but varied for everyones taste and pleasent enough to while away a few hours in the bar. Food was very good and as much as you want at anytime.Apartment was very spacious with A/con and a ceiling fan if required at night. Will we go back!!! You bet we will, roll on Dec 2007
Good
This Riu hotel is nearer Benalmadena than Torromolinos as we found out after having taken the Renfe train from the airport to Torremolinos and then tried to walk - in the end we called a much needed cab - I imagine the walk could be done without cases or the buses run from the hotel to Torremolinos. Very clean as all Riu hotels are - a friendly but not overly warm reception - no cocktail as is usual in all Riu hotels. Very pleasant room if a bit small and dated, although a side sea view this was quite pleasant. As is usual with most Riu hotels a wonderful evening buffet with excellent caring service. Pool area a little dated but the advantage of being right on the seafront and promonade. This hotel sits between two lovely small towns, benalmadena and torremolinos which between them have plenty to offer for relaxation and holiday.
Great time had by all
Overbooked at the Rui Belplaya and was transferred to the Riu Nautilus.Stayed first week August 2006. Welcome was extremely warm and friendly but were informed that the rooms did not cater for 5 people ( 2 adults, 2 children and 1 infant) and were upgraded to a suite free of charge. Rooms were lovely and we had a seafront view overlooking the hotel pool and the beach that was just a stones throw away. The kids loved the pool....the hotel has a non reservation policy for the sunbeds but it still didn't stop some people reserving them early not at 5am but by about 9.30am most sun beds had towels on them. The pool was good and not too overcrowded a lifeguard was on duty from 10am-6pm incidently this is the time the pool is open but no-one seemed to pay heed to this and people we in the pool from 8am until 9pm. Breakfast and evening dinner were excellent the staff were really friendly and extremely nice. As vegetarians who lucky eat fish the food was lovely for about 3 days and then you got sick of eating deep fried or shallow fried fish. My son ate wedges and chips for the whole week but as a fussy eater he was happy. The hotel could have had more variety with the fish and in dishes etc. Our rooms were made up everyday and the air conditioning was very cold. We booked our holiday last minute and the hotel and overall holiday was excellent. The beach was beautiful but my youngest (nearly 2) decided she hated sand and didn't like the noise the sea waves made so while I spent my time at the pool my husband sat with his feet in the sea on his own. My 2 year old also got a tummy bug for 4 days and we couldn't decide whether she was teething or had a bug. My 11 year old ended up with a sunburned nose even though we were using fator 50+ sunblock and the Pharmacia was only 5 minutes walk away and very helpful. The staff all spoke a variety of languages and their english was excellent. The domestic staff ie repairmen and chambermaids however spoke no english. But when my 2 year old had been vomiting and covered all the bedsheets all that was needed was some hand gesturing and explaining to the chambermaids and it was all cleared up without a fuss. Evening entertainment is limited but the magician on our last night was excellent. The only grips we had were not enough activity for the kids and no nappy changing facilitites for babies. Note....taxis will only take 4 people so your infant is also counted and at some points we had to take 2 taxis so beware.
Fantastic Hotel
We stayed at this hotel in July 06. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The rooms are a good size and spotlessly clean and v comfortable. The pool area is very nice set amongst gardens that lead on the paseo and beach. The food in the hotels restaurant was of a very high standard for both breakfast and dinner. I will definitely be returning
Fantastic Hotel and Location
Stayed at the Riu Nautilus end of June/ beginning of July. Rooms - first class, very clean and spacious Food - fantastic range, something for everyone and always piping hot. Servive - great in the restaurant, as soon as you had finished your meal the waiting staff cleared your plate away. Very prompt with the drinks orders as well. Staff- very polite and friendly Location - fabulous, right on the sea front. Come out onto the promenade and turn left to walk to Torremolinos (approx 15 min walk) or turn right to walk to the Marina (approx 5 min walk) where plenty of nice bars. Would definately return.
everything I expected
My wife and I went for a 'romantic break', without our daughter in May. We found the Nautilus exactly as described on the Riu website! The staff were helpful, charming, very polite and most important, they smiled and meant it! The hotel was spotless, we too had a side sea view, which was a little disappointing, but hey, we were only there for 4 days and we got a special offer. The food was very good and well presented, nothing spectacular, but all of good quality. The animation man (not team) was also the nightly entertainment? but there are countless bars nearby! We liked how the hotel was kept in it's traditional Spanish feel,it even smelt Spanish! The other guests were rather old, in fact at 52, I felt quite young! There was no battle for sunbeds and the Nautilus has a fabulous position where the sun shines on the sun terraces all day, no matter where you are! Would I return to the Nautilus? Yes. Well done Riu .What you see is what you get.
Disapponted with the Riu Nautilus
While there are many commendable features about the Riu Nautilus, it has some things that take away from its 4Star rating. Unless you get a junior suite or room right on the front facing the sea you will likely be disappointed. The side facing room [lateral sea view they call it!] could be like ours - facing on to a side street overlooking the delivery yard for the kitchen with a balcony about 8Ft X 3Ft. We requested a sea view when booking and when we went to our room, I immediately requested a better room. There was nothing available until the next morning when we were shown a junior suite for which we paid Euros 35.00 per night extra to upgrade to. It was in the basement but right on the front - very private with a lovely view of the sea. However, it was right on the corner of the side street that runs down the side of the hotel to the promenade and was therefore very noisy at during the day and at nght, both with passers-by and a pub across the street. The hotel was overbooked during our stay and the dining room was very crowded - to the extent of being disorganised. The food was okay but nothing to get excited about. We usually stay in 4Star hotels in the Canaries, which are much better quality than the Nautilus. It is not up to the usual Riu standard and should be an embarrassment to them. The dining room staff were very friendly but the staff on the reception desk leave a lot to be desired. In its favour the hotel is spotlessly clean. It is very convenient to the promenade along which you can walk to either Torromelinos or Benaldmadena. If you like boats and go to Benalmadena Marina - look for a motor cruiser called CORFU which you can hire for Euros 50.00 for 2 hours - it is privately hired you don't have anyone on the boat apart from your own party of minimum X2 up to maximum X7. Rafael, the owner, is an excellent host/guide for your trip and speaks good English. Our trip on the Corfu was the highlight of our week!
