" Nice hotel & staff shame about the smell & evening meals "

We stayed at the Auramar, in the reception/bar area on the ground floor there was the smell of dirty mop/bucket/water which was strongest in the morning. The evening meals were fine if you like fish or beefburgers there was usually 4 choices but 3 were fish except when duck was on the menu then 2 fish, duck and beefburger. On the plus side the English breakfast but only served on alternate days. On other days you could have cooked Apple, frankfurters & scrambled egg, there was always choices of toast, rolls, cheese, jam, etc.
Spain and Portugal has had a lot of rain over the past 3 months and all the rivers and streams that are usually dry are flowing but not over full.

Advice: I would not rate this hotel 3star

" Dicky Bellys "

My boyfriend and I were very much looking forward to our 1st proper holiday away together and neither of us had been to Portugal before!
Now don't get me wrong - while we were there we loved the location. The hotel looks stunning as you arrive and I actually thought we had been dropped off at the wrong place (we only paid £14 per night for the room for us both bed and breakfast!) The cliff-top location is awesome and when you are on the beach or lying by the pool looking at the sea view you could be anywhere exotic! Gorgeous. And for January we had a couple of scorchers and got a bit of a suntan.
So good sides of the hotel - location stunning, we could check into our room early at 12 on arrival, the room was lovely and clean and bright, well cared for and the maid came every day to change the towels, make the beds and clean up, the view from the room was lovely - palm trees and glittering blue sea, staff were efficient if not that friendly, near to the strip if you like that kind of thing (which we don't really and spent most of our time walking to the old town and back). Generally we found the staff and local people to be courteous. There was a lobby shop which though expensive stocked basics.
Down sides to the hotel reflect what many others have said. The reception area smells terrible - like sweaty feet or rotten leaves and is quite unpleasant. There is a tiny indoor pool but I was put off by the floor covering around it which is like green snooker table felt and wet and mouldy looking. There is a lack of 'normal' shops near to the hotel and the local supermarket is a like an expensive parody of an english supermarket with hardly any local produce on offer - instead Robertson's Jan at 4.50 euros a jar and nivea hand cream at 9 euros a tub!
My main gripe is the food and I would strongly advise people to stay away from it unless you want food poisoning. Of course we didnt realise at the time because we were only on bed and breakfast so you would think not much harm can be done. Our first breafast was Friday and by Sunday my boyfriend (who has the stomach and constitution of an ox) has fallen sick in the early hours. We put it down to the fish cataplana we had at a restaurant in the old town the night before but this seemed odd as the restaurant and food were exceptional from there). We had eaten the same meal too so couldn't understand why I was not sick too as my stomach is not usually so strong. We did however eat a bit of everything from the breakfast buffet which one day consisted of scrambled eggs, chips, baked apples with cinnamon and hot dog sausages, and the next baked tomatoes, fred eggs, bacon and chips. There were also yogurts (beware if you read the small print on the fruit ones they state they don't contain fruit!) My boyfriend's intake greatly reduced from Sunday and he ate small portions of mainly bread rolls due to feeling so unwell (it's Wednesday and we are home and he still has the runs). This did spoil the holiday to a certain extent because we spent Sunday in bed and then had to take it easy with actvity and food for the rest of the 5 day hol.
Anyway, it turned out he wasn't in isolation. When we got our transfer bust to the airport the other couple had sickness and the runs too and they had been comparing what they had eaten to find the cluprit.
I was shocked I had got away with it ......don't speak too soon. Had breakfast on the last day and I felt felt a bit dicky in the bus to the airport then on the plane but was OK. Didn't have any tea and felt really tired (put it down to the journey). Then 12 midnight I woke up - sick and the runs, 2am same, 4am same and now am just down to the runs and am off work because of it!
I would say be very cautious with the dining room at the Auramar. My theory is the watery fruit juice but the other couple blamed the scrambled eggs! It's just not worth it eating there! I certainly wouldn't let my children eat there!
Enjoy the location, you might be lucky with an excellent room like we were, use the free bus to the old town, walk to the strip if thats your cup of tea. It is very cheap and if you stick to just these things you'll have a great time.

" Not all bad "

Unlike some other reviewers we found the staff helpful, couteous and friendly. We arrived at 10.30 a.m. not expecting our room until 2p.m.(as stated in brochure)but were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was ready. The room was clean with towels and bedding changed daily. Like other reviewers we found there to be a rather unpleasant smell in the reception area. The serious downside to this holiday was that the food was invariably cold having been on the servery uncovered and in our opinion, not of a very good standard. The location of the hotel is too far away from the old town and although the Strip was nearby, it was mostly closed for the Winter. Albufeira itself is a beautiful place and we would certainly return, but not to this hotel.

Advice: There is plenty of other accomodation in Albufeira

" cheap and it shows "

Book this hotel if you want cheap! Book this hotel if you want good location! Book this hotel if you want a clean very basic room to get a shower in & sleep! Book this hotel if you like dirty tables and no longer have the use of tastebuds! Do not expect 3*, it ain't! Ignorant staff to welcome you on your arrival,(if in my job a client walked into my shop & I walked into the back office because it inconvenienced me i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have a job! Even had to inconvenience them to check out, how rude of me!). Call me picky but i'm pretty sure that side sea view should at some point involve erm.., sea? Not to be, which is pretty impressive considering the hotel is located 50 or so metres from the sea!(and please don't even go there, trying to suggest that I should have brought this to receptions attention, read above note!) Let me try to be positive and believe me it's difficult! It's cheap! The rooms are very 70's but ours was cleaned every day! If you've been to greece self catering, you'll get the idea! Location, beach lovers, perfect. Not too far from the strip 7-8 mins & personally think it's as nice a walk along the beach into the old town (tide permitting) as you'll get 20-25 mins ish! Good hotel shop! That's about it for the positives. In short, go in the winter to this hotel when it's cheap! Book room only, would't even bother with breakfast,(it's normally worth it for the coffee if nothing else, but the machines are always empty!) pay cheap(very cheap), expect cheap, expect borderline rude reception staff, spend no time in the hotel, get showered there, sleep there, go out and enjoy Albufeira. A note to anyone who has booked this hotel through a tour operator & paid anywhere near full price, transfer to a different hotel, you will thank me for it!! Just to make it clear, we saw this hotel in May 09 as we walked along the beach & thought it looked great(Looks can be very deceptive!). We could'nt believe how cheap it was to stay there in November 09. We paid £90.00 for the room, bed & breakfast, which is cheap, very cheap. But even at this ridiculous price we still left feeling dissapointed / annoyed because it would be so easy to make this a cracking hotel by giving it a refurb and employing staff that actually gave a you know what!! I question anyone who calls this a good 3*, what have you stayed in before? Then again don't, I really wouldn't want to know!

" Never again "

My husband & I stayed here 6th-13th Nov and will never ever return.
Like most people on arrival we had to wait until 2pm for our room and once we got there was met by a constant motor noise as the room was next to the lift shaft (B110). My husband who is a very light sleeper went to reception to see if we could be moved but was told we had to come back after 10am the next day. The next day we were allocated room C209 which was much more to our liking and very comfortable and clean although some days we had a horrible drain smell in the bathroom. The all inclusive food served in this hotel is the worst I have had in any hotel previously, nothing was covered and I never tasted anything that was hot. Food served at lunch would appear in the evening and I suspect some of the food at lunch was from the previous evening. Worst of all a lot of people were suffering with violent sickenss & diarrhea of which I had the 3rd day of our holiday and my husband thursday evening before we departed on the friday.
We were very disappointed with our experience here as it was our first visit to Portugal and on first appearance of the hotel, gardens & beach we thought we had chosen a good hotel. How wrong we were proved to be!!!!!

Advice: Albufeira Old Town is fascinating although not for people with walking difficulties

Activities: Due to illness we were unable to get out and abount

" once bitten twice shy "

We have just got back from 2 weeks at the Hotel, half board. Hotel looks good from the outside and in a great location. Had to be moved from our room to another room due to horendous noise coming from the pipes inside the walls. Plaster falling off the room walls. No shampoo. After two days, the same old food became too much and i only had sweets for the evening meal. Chefs special seemed to be the weeks leftovers all mixed together, what a joke. breakfast was the same, eggs overcooked. Drinks at the bar were overpriced i.e. half a pepsi was 2 euros. Dont buy tour tickets at the Hotel, they charge almost double, there is a ticket seller shop on the Strip just up the road. Unfortunately, we had the neigbours from Hell (Limeys) next door for a few nights who thought it was proper to come back to their room at 3 in the morning completely drunk and waking everyone up, not the Hotels fault, but after complaints, nothing was done.
There is a short, baldish barman who gave a customer Hell one night in front of guests, because he ordered his drink from the wrong end of the bar !!! It was ok to serve his friends from the same end of the bar though. couldnt believe my eyes, again , nothing done about it...the barman should have been fired in my opinion. Evening entertainment was ok for a 3 star Hotel. Good points...Location, free bus service to the old town. Bad points, Top of the list - Food, then Surly staff, overcharging, no Hotel Shampoo, broken light bulbs not being replaced, Hotel toilets stink - they dont seem to use toilet chemicals. Ants in the bathroom.
In my opinion, it is worth paying more to stay at a 4 star which is what we will do next time. Once bitten-twice shy.

" Appalling!!! "

We had been looking forward to our first time half-board week in Portugal for quite some time. Our flights and transfers went well and we were really pleased to see the lovely weather.
Upon arrival we, like many others had to queue to register in the hotel. The first greeting was "You have to pay ten euros for the deposit on your room key". No welcome, or hello! This was a good start!
Our room was based on the ground floor at the end of one of the corridors. We had two balconys - how lucky were we? Not so, as it would appear. One overlooked across some grass and another block of rooms. The other, overlooked more grass, some trees and wire fencing.
There were no towels or shampoo in our rooms, which we thought, for the cost of the holiday, would be pretty standard. When reported to the reception staff, I was greeted by a rather abrupt reply stating that they do not give out shampoo and the towels will be arriving later.
So off to the beach for the afternoon for some sun and scenery. Returning to shower for the evening, we turned on the TV. All the screens crackled and were snowy. You had to try hard to fathom out which nationality you were watching. And so to dinner! We arrived in the dinning room at around 7pm, thinking that this would be a reasonable time in which to miss the rush. There were no clean laid tables and when I dared to question how the coffee machine worked, I was informed that if I wanted it, I would have to buy it at the bar, even though, we had already been charged for water with our evening meal!
We got to breakfast at 8.45am. Again, there were no clean laid tables and we had to clear down the one we found to be relativley clean and then hunted the dinning hall for crockery and cutlery. At 9.15am another customer came in and questioned why there was no meat for breakfast. Only to be told that the quota for the day had been met and there would be no more. Needless to say, the even later dinners were not impressed!
Adamant that we would get a clean table, we headed for the dinning room promptly at 6pm that evening. Enroute, I found some broken glass on the flat, leading to the hall. I had cleared quite alot of it into a bin, but noticed there were still lots of smaller pieces. I raised it with a member of staff. As far as I know, it was still there until the day I left!
That evening, we were really pleased to enter a clean and fully laid up table. My husband who is a vegetarian - very important point for later - had the bream for dinner. In the morning, we each had the cooked breakfast and planned to go to the beach and old town. Asked the reception where the buses are caught for returning back to the hotel. "Where it drops you off, in the Square" - note Square, not Bus Station! By 12.30 that day, my husband felt unwell and went to bed for the afternoon. By 6pm, he had a temperature and felt sick. I spent the evening trying to cool him down with wet towels and trying to get him to drink water. At 1.30 in the morning, he was violenty sick and complained of having a bloated stomach.
The following day, we were due to go on the Historical Tour of the area, so I had ordered an "early breakfast". "You can pick it up at 10pm". "For a breakfast?" I replied. "We do packed lunched, not breakfast". "Could I order two lunches with no meat please?".
In the morning, my husband looked like death and had spent time in the bathroom again. However, he wanted to do the tour. The packed lunch was filled with cheese and ham. The rolls went in the bin. We came back from our tour when my husband was still not eating and said that I should go and eat. So into the dinning room I went. No clean tables again. Thought that I would be safe with salad and some cold meat. Having eaten two mouthfulls of food, found a human hair of about 6inches on my plate. Called a waitress across and she told me that I had to raise it with the cash collector. Raised it with a young girl who said there was nothing she could do about it. I was very angry and in front of some of the other guests informed her of my husbands sickness and upset stomach. I further stated that we would not use the dinning room for the remainder of our holiday. My evening meal turned out to be some crisps and coke.
In the morning, my husband was still not well but wanted to try some toast to settle his stomach. I had a cup of tea and piece of scabby fruit. Later in the afternoon, we decided that we would sit by the pool as hubby did not feel strong enough to go walking anywhere. How nice it was to see, some child rinsing out his food cup in the pool!
Back to the room for a shower before going out for a meal, I came across two workmen who had taken the front door off our room. 15 minutes later, when they had finished, I was able to get into our room. We caught the bus down to the town which stopped at the bus station - not square! We had a light meal, given that we hadn't eaten properly for three days.
In the morning, we had the usual saga of having to clear the table before we could use it. Hubby had two pieces of toast and opened up a dried up satchet of honey. That was left to one side. Tea and apple for me again.
Packed lunch requested again, for our trip to Lisbon. No meat please, etc, etc. Bag collected - ham and cheese - went in the bin again.
And so, to our final night, an early flight in the morning, meant again, a packed lunch. No meat please. Hubby goes to collect it and surprise, surprise, it has ham and cheese. So back he goes to the reception and points out on the ticket - no meat. "Would you like me to take it out" says the staff member "or I can take it to the kitchen and they will take out the meat". My hubby asked if this was all they were prepared to do and not make up fresh ones. "No" was the reply. Sandwiches were left for the chamber maid.
We paid a large sum of money for this trip and expected far better service than we received. Our room was also dirty, dated and seriously basic.
Don't waste your money or time at this place, it really isin't worth the effort.

Advice: The beach is beautiful, sandy and clean. Walk to the marina and elevator on edge of beach.

Activities: Steam lift, monestary in Lisbon. Roast lamb in the restaurant on the left as you enter the strip.

" clean & friendly "

Reception and waitressing staff were courteous and helpful. Domestic staff were forever dusting and sweeping the public areas of the hotel - inside and out. Granted the decor was a little dated but the level of cleanliness and care put in place by the staff more than made up for this, and the location of the hotel could not be bettered.
Food was varied with many dishes available, and usually 5-6 desserts on offer. Vegetarians were less well catered for, but with the extensive salads to choose from, this was not really a problem, and the panoramic sunset view from the restaurant each evening was incredibly beautiful. Would definately visit this hotel again.

Advice: Beautiful beaches and coves. Visited in October so not too touristy at all.

Activities: Zoomarine was a v. good day out. Also theres a lovely mexican restaurant nr the beach escalators.

" disappointing "

we have just returned from a weeks stay at the auramar hotel, and i must say that we were very disappointed with the whole experience.we asked to be given another room as soon as we got there, as the one that was allocated to us had a dirty toilet and the room my 8 year old son would have had to sleep in was very dark and was the first room you entered from the landing, which to us was'nt acceptable as he always shares our room when on holiday. we booked all inclusive but ended up going out for meals as the food was not good at all, and they did'nt cater for children. there were also cockroaches in the hotel and in some bedrooms, we had a lizard in our bedroom instead.I am disgusted that any tour operator can be allowed to sell this hotel. the only good thing i can say for the auramar is that the location is perfect.

Advice: albufeira is a very lovely resort

" THE REAL TRUTH "

Right! Here is the real truth about this hotel and the area.
On arrival the hotel looks very nice. The inside is very clean and tidy and well presented. The staff there were all friendly and happy to help with whatever questions my partner and i had. The is a good 3 star htel. If you go execting it to be more then you will be disappointed. I have stayed in several 3 star htels and this is one of the best. The rooms are a decent size and were clean and tidy, with a fridge and a beautiful view over the sea. The only downside of the rooms were the beds. They were very hard and not very comfortable, however I seem to find this in most places that I go. I was half board and although i didnt always eat in the hotel my partner and i had several meals in there. The food was nothing to rave about but was nice and edible and there was plenty of it. Again it was what you would expect from a 3 star hotel. Breakfast had cereals fruits yohgurts and fried breakfast. Dinner alwaysa seeemed to have piza and chips but lots of other including salads etc. Then there were two different meals each day. Like I sttaed it was nice, not fantastic, but nice. With regards to all the steps, there are a few. Its not as bad as others make out. The bottom line is that the hotel is on a cliff with stunning views and you have to compramise somewhere. There are going to be steps when your hotel is on a cliff. Being 24 it did not bother me in the slightest. I would suggest that it is not suitable for older travellers or those who struggle with thier mobility. The pool area is beautiful and the pool was fab. It was lovely and clean and not too busy that you couldnt move about or mess around and have fun. The area around the hotel has lots of shops, resturaunts and pubs. There is plenty of places to go but more I would suggest for the younger generation. Also be prepared to be offered 'hash' or watches on a regular basis. I just said no thanks and continued walking and never had a problem. Also the 'old town' that is a 25 min walk down the beach or a short taxi ride away is lovely with endless shops resturaunts and culture. On the whole a great holiday with plenty of things to do, take lots of money eat out now and again in the lovely resturants and most definatly go swimmiong with the dolphins!!! If you go expecting a nice 3 star hotel you will not be disapointed. Daniel Cooper 24 Lincoln

Advice: Lots to do, quite expensive but well worth it.

Activities: The zoomarine (swimminng with dolphins £150pp), jet skiing, parasailing. Awesome!

" our stay at the auromar - sept 09 "

We found the hotel to be above average. Plus points were the food (breakfast buffet hot with great coffee and a wide variety of choice - pretty normal stuff though).Lunch good as you could help yourself to rolls and different fillings for a lighter option or go for meat/fish and rice etc full lunch. We were B&B so tried the evening buffet once and weren't disappointed. The pool is large with a great shallow area on the periphery which you could sit with your feet in. Water v v cold!! Too many children around for our liking. Lounger area could be noisy but this was mainly because they were in close proximity to each other. Lots of wasps!!! My big issue was with the fact that there was a very nice and much quieter pool that our room overlooked, we thought great...BUT, it is for sole use by Germans and on the other side of a pin-operated gate!! Wasn't happy about this especially as our room overlooked it.The room - this was clean and well maintained, a bit dated. two twin beds pushed together not ideal. Shower good, powerful and warm. Room could be drain-smelly at times. Air con worked wonderfully. Reception staff were not that great - on arrival we were told it was a 10 euro deposit for the key - not expected or informed by Expedia .There wasn't a safety deposit box key available until the next day so we had to carry all our valuables with us until then. The staff don’t apologise they just say NO. The strip is 10 minutes walk away, the restaurants we tried were fabulous and could not fault the food at all. Worth a special mention are "Donaldos, "Sunset Pizza" and "The china garden" chinese which are all at the hotel end of the strip. On the whole the downside of the hotel is the attitude of some of the staff, the many many steps, the constant sound of the leaf-blower machine, the exclusively German pool and the fact that they charge you extra for whatever they can (safe key, key deposit, 1 euro to make a phone call for you confirming your airport transfer). On the subject of the journey - we will never fly Easyjet again, the free for all when boarding, the 1 hour it took to check in at Gatwick which nearly involved us missing our flights, the fact that they sold out of most of the food before they even started on the return journey and the "I don't care" attitude of the cabin crew. They are awful!!!!!! We would stay at the hotel again but not all-inclusive as the hotel only has one restaurant and I would get bored. The Entertainment a bit limited too.

" Excellent holiday "

Stayed at this hotel from 3rd September for a week.
We had an early flight and got to the hotel at 9.30am. We were not expecting to be able to get in the room till about 2.00, but they made a special effort and we were in by 11.30am.
First impressions of this 3* hotel were good. The receptionist was very friendly and spoke perfectly good English, as did all the reception staff.
The room was clean and had air conditioning which was very welcome. It was also cleaned every day.
We were half board and the food was ok, but must admit we got slightly bored with the choice so ended up eating out a couple of times as there are so many restaurants near by.
The location is excellent, right next to the beach and about 10 minutes walk away from the mile long strip of shops, bars and restaurants. It is about a 20 minute walk to the old town, but the hotel provides a free bus service to take you as well.
All in all, have no complaints about the hotel or location and would be more than happy to go again as it was a very enjoyable holiday.

Advice: Lovely place with plenty to do, plan to go back again

" loved it. "

i went to this hotel hotel with my family and after a early morning flight and long journey was nice to get to the hotel, it was massive our roooms where ready straight away with staff showing us where to go. we had 2 rooms with both seaside views which was unexpected.
the pool was the best its views was amazing i loved just sitting on the lounger looking at the sea as it was so close.
the food was ok seemed to be the same sort of stuff everyday but was tasty.
it was just the night entertainment which was dissapointing, because we were there for 2 weeks, after the 1st week the 30mins entertainment repeated itself on the 2nd week. after the 30mins of the entertainment it be a man playing a keyboard which was boring and miserable but just have to learn to blank it out.
i loved this hotel and going back again this september for a week.

" auramar review "

Have never been to portugal before apart from as a child quite a few years ago and did not know what to expect. Me and my partner arrived at the hotel at around 10am to find that on most occasions due to people having to check out of there rooms at 12pm their day of leaving we was unable to get to our room till estimated 2pm. Which at first after travelling was a bit of an off put. We was then advised of meal times and given a map by the recepitionist and put a 10 euro deposit down for our room key (which we was not advised before we got the but luckly we had already got euros) this is incase you lose your key, but be advised i am sure i read that it cost 50 euor for a replacment key. I did not lose my key but some advice to take a keyring of some sort as they are small and could easily be lost.
As we could not get into our room we had our suitcases with us but was advised by the recpetionist that we can leave them in a room for luggage by the reception desk which we did. We then made our way to the snack bar which has food and drink during the day. We was surprised to see how big the complex was. As you walk through reception you have the bar that opens at 5pm till supposedly 12am. You walk through the door into were there is a few seats and a pool table with a canopy over head. Step up a step and your at the tropical bar and seating area with stage which was never open when we was there maybe as was slightly out of season but never experienced this. straight facing you there is in like a large glass green house type of place a heated pool good for kids and table tennis table with a small area to sunbath which we then nicknamed 'the hardcore sunners' spot. Get them if you can.
You then go down your first set of step which leads to the retuarnt where you have your breakfast 8am till 10am and also your come back there for you night meal 6pm till 09.30pm. Which is quite large but will explain the meals later. If you carry on past the restuarant you will come to another set of stairs which lead down to the pool area and a small pool area again just before the bottom of the stairs to the right. You will then find a pool side pool bar which opens 11am till 5pm and food is served from 12pm til 4pm ish with bread rolls and cheese and ham available throughout its opening times. You will then find a rather large pool which looks beautiful but is absoloutley freezing. I have always loved swimming but that took my breath away when i dived in and only the once did i go in the pool. But watching people faces as they dive in is fantastic. My partner dived in quite a few times but i think men can handle it better. The pool area seemed to be home to two seagulls which owned the pool including washing themselves in it, sitting at the side of it and relaxing in the sun and occasionally flying over and pooing in it.
To the left of the pool there was a grassy area with more sunbeds and a small stage which held fitness and darts etc not alot as i think was out of season but they hold morning games etc there. To the right of the pool area there is a gate which you can go through to take you to the beach. At first it looked like a rocky plane instead of a beach but you can walk either to the right which is less rocky or to the left for beach's. If you have trouble walking i do not suggest this hotel due to the amount of stairs or the rocky area out the back to the beach. Becareful when going to the beach this way as you are waking on the rock edge. Gives you very god sights but what ever you do do not go for a walk there at night specially after a drink. The beaches are lovely and if you go to the right that beach offers protection from the breeze if you feel it is too brezzy on the sun loungers at the pool. For the time of year we went it was quite hot and got a good tan but i did find it a little windy specially at night which i would suggest take a warm coat/cardigan with you.
The food is very nice and had no complaints reagarding this. Breakfast was fruit pinapple rings, apricot etc, yogurts, toast, full english, omlette, bread, cake and chips which i never did eat for breakfast. The drinks in the morning are from a dispenser coffee and also soft drink water pinapple juice, orange juice which i found quite weak and not very cold. In the day you had the pool side bar with bread rolls available before 12pm with cheese and ham on offer also fruit apples and oranges. After 12pm you had the dinners which was nice you had soup then burgers and chips also would have fish, rice, veg, some meat beef or pork or duck and then nearly always spegetti bolonaigse. You also had a choice of a salad which was freash with tuna that was so tasty. The fish option here always tasted beautiful and definatly worth having. At the night after 6pm there was the night meal you had your salads fresh and also a salad pasta dish was made and normally full kippers too. you would have the chefs special available. Then the night meal chips, meat beef or pork or duck. Rice, veg, different potatos, fish, vegetation option, pasta dish, sometimes chicken curry or chicken with sauce, sometime ribs and also had squid rings. Every night there was something different and a wide varity of options available. Also a option of approx 7 differnt cakes some jelly and ice cream. The waitresses and waiters was very efficient and by the time you sat down they was aksing you if you would like a drink which was nice and cold and options of drinks beer, soft drink etc. When you had an empty plate they would remove this efficiently which was very good service from them considering the size and amount of people in the room.
The hotel rooms where adequate not that we was expecting much. Bathroom, bedroom, balcony. Clean and new towels everyday. Tv available which had bbc 1 and itv3 in english and mtv.
The strip was a ten minute walk up from the hotel. when you walk up from the hotel and come to a place called the kiss club you have two options to go left or right. Right is to the strip which is also known as the new town. Left has a bus stop that goes to the old town which is worth seeing but the bus does go round the streets and back on itself a bit and was 1.10 euro each. If you come out the gate near the pool and go to the right to the beach you can see ahead a lift shaft which is where the old town is which is actually not that far. About a 20min walk down the beach which was very nice. A taxi to the old town to the hotel is roughly 3.50 euro's. Which ever you want to do.
I would not book any trips through the hotel as it is quite expensive from there as someone we met on holiday advised us. If you go up the strip to the top near the main road you will find a place called liza's pizza do a right there and you will see a place called ticket shop with sometimes does half price deals of 2 for one. We went on a trip to a gypsy market on a wednesday and cost for the two of us 9 euro (4.50 euro each half price sale) instead of the hotel who wanted 10 euro each. You get picked up from the road about just outside the hotel for the trips. Definitly worth going on the gypsy market trips one on saturday and one wednesday. The wednesday one is bigger but they are both amazing i got quite a few beautfil stylish bags and my partner loved haggling the price. On the markets or walking about you may get approached by people on the street to buy watches etc but a simple no was sufficient.
Some things were not open like the bull ring.
The night life at the hotel was the only downside really i can mention. Maybe as start of season am unsure but they had this guy that played on a piano at the night which was very depressing. He sang songs but the words were sometimes distorted maybe as he was portugese singing english classics unusre but was absolutely terrible. They had things on each night (except fridays days off) from 9pm usually for 30 mins like parrot show, magic show, snakes and reptiles, bingo, also portugese dancers came which i have to say was the best 30 mins i had of night life. The nightlife on the strip we only experienced once as we found this to expesive and as we was all inclusive we could get local drinks at the bar free. We went to an irish bar and paid 10 euro for a magners and a lemonade. The nights are cold and if walking up the strip put something warm on.
The hotel during the day would benfit from music playing at the sun lounging area which i feel would have been better than silence or screaming of some kids. Also at the night putting a cd on was much better than having that guy on the piano playing. Bar staff was nice enough and the women always had a smile and happy to help.
The hotel had internet access 1 euro 11 mins , 5 euro and hour which was easily usable and phone booths to ring back home.
All n all i would like to go back to the hotel but i might check that the piano guy has gone and other entertainment even if a cd was played.
