The hotel itself wasn't that bad. It's definitely dated and could do with modernisation but all in all found it ok (with the exception of limited bedding, emulsioned bath and flooded corridors). The food was a different matter, I'm a self confessed fussy eater but the food... more

Myself and my daughter have just got back from the Auramar after a 4 night stay. We didn't have a problem with the hotel. OK its old and needs updating, but what do you expect for a 3 star hotel, 4 nights, £69 each. We only went bed and breakfast and must admit glad... more

great hotel great location
I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend and our two friends after reading all the negative reviews I was more than scared at what to expect but upon arrival we were more than pleased with what we saw. yes the hotel lobby does smell at bit of ciggerate smoke but what do you expect when this in part of the bar area and talking of the bar it was a nice clean area and the staff at the bar were really nice people. Food was ok but there are that many resturants on the strip and at the old town you dont really want to eat in your hotel unless your are all inclusive which I wouldnt advise doing as you have to queue for ages and you are limited to certain drinks, also my boyfriend had to moan that there was no pint glasses only little plastic one's which didnt bother me but thats men for you. Pool area was fab, pool was very clean loads of sun loungers and great views of the sea. There was also a lot of germans but kept themselves to themselves. Would not reccomend this hotel to older people with walking difficulties as there are quite a few steps to the pool area and I didnt think i'd find this quite a problem as i am only 23yrs old but with that hot weather it does take it out of you . The rooms were very clean and tidy and we were both more than happy with it not a bad thing to say about it. overall i found this hotel a great place to stay and would deffinately stay here again. for a three star hotel you won't be dissapointed.
An idealy located hotel with all the expected features and conveniences
I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Auramar hotel. We initial chose the hotel because of its location (5 minutes walk to the lively strip, where all the bars, restuarants and souvenir shops are) and because they offered a cheap deal which was 7 nights allinclusive! Bargain! We arrived at the hotel to find less than helpful reception staff but that was partly due to the language barrier, their English was not good. However we were quickly checked in, were given our allinclusive wrist bands (which were annoying to say the least but hey!) and shown to our room which was spacious and basic but good enough for 2 girls whose main aim was to sit by the pool for a week! The pool itself was lovely as was the poolside, loads of sunbeds but not so many mats for them. Also be warned, there are many sneaky customers who go down to the pool at 7.30am to "reserve" their beds then potter back to bed til 1 or 2pm! So be prepared for a few bed wars, its abit ridiculous really. Anyway i would recommend allinclusive, there was a variety of meat and fish dishes, chips, pastas, vegetables, fruit etc. Breakfast however was not nice but u can avoid it and wait until 10.30am when the snacks bar opens (with plenty of filled rolls, cakes, fruit etc and lunch begins at 12noon). The only drawbacks to the food was the very limited menu for vegetarians and small children. Most kids we saw were surviving on burgers and chips for the week which is a shame really because i would otherwise highly recommend this hotel for families because of the brilliant pool, the children's club and the beach which is on the doorstep. All in all the hotel was great, do not expect real luxury, this is a 3 star and you do know it when you are there. However all dinner staff are helpful and friendly and there are plenty of places in the strip to eat or be entertained. The aqua park is also to hand which gives a fun day for adults and children. Anyway we had a brilliant week in a nicely situated hotel, i would highly recommend this place to the majority of people as it a quiet hotel with a 5minute walk to the hustle and buslte of a tourist's haven!
A room with a view
Having seen the reviews on here and having come back today from this place we can agree with most of the comments, so to keep it short and snappy here are the good points and the bad points; GOOD THINGS 1) On arrival receptionist was pleasant 2) Room was cleaned daily with fresh towels (if you so choose-just leave them on the floor) 3) Value for money - If you are going on a shoe string (i.e. half board/self catering) the pool side restaurant offers all you can eat buffett for 5 euro's from 12 o'clock till late afternoon good choice and reasonable quality. 4) majority of rooms have stunning sea view's, ours did anyway! 5) If you dont like cold water the indoor heated pool is very good (although small ideal for children) 6) For £270 for the week plus airport transfers you can't really go wrong for this time of year 7) Its location is ideal, close to the talked about strip which gets really busy on an evening. And contrary to what someone else said on here El Rancho was the best place we ate all week although the Clay oven is pretty good for those that like an indian. 8) Room had working free air conditioning which was good. 9) The Ali Supermarket on the way up to the strip is good for supplies go there (why I say this, read point 4 below) BAD POINTS 1) Take an air rifel if you are in block D as there is a cockrel will almost certainly wake you at 5 ish in the morning (unless you were out on the sauce earlier that day or you can sleep through anything) 2) Reception wasn't that full of smoke during the day more likley to find that in an evening when the all in's people were there 3) This is an ageing hotel and the design and quality has a feeling of been built in say the 60's or 70's so if you are wanting all modern looking this place may not be for you. 4) There is an ignorant woman in the small supermarket on site she seemed to work early on in the week as I didn't see her Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun. She is small, fat and frowns an awful lot and has this "i can't be bothered" look about her. All in all this is a nice place to stay and the up keep of ist is generally very good, I would stay there again if travelling on a budget. One more point - Germans get there way no matter where you go in Europe they always seem to have one over anybody else but thats what you get for been really ugly and not been able to dress properly. (white socks and sandals). p.s. can't be bothered spell checking this as its been a really long day. If you have any pointers ee-mail them to me.....cheers
one pool is Germans only
We have just returned from the Aparthotel Auramar which had two lovely pools one for the all inclusive. The all inclusive pool had new sunbeds and big thick mattress's. But half way through our holiday we were locked out of the the all inclusive one and told this was just for the Germans. The staff told us that during the busy summer months the Hotel has a contract with All Tours the German tour company that only they can use this pool. So the gate was locked and only the German holiday makers had the code to get in. The chidrens club is in this gated area. So how any children apart from German ones could get in i do not know. I liked the Hotel and the situation was lovely over looking the sea. The food was alright. The reception area was a little dated, the rooms were clean. The entertainment was very bad as other reviews have said we had 30 mins of magic shows or parrots or some sort of dancing between 9pm- 9.30pm. Before this and after a very bad organist that plays the same songs every night. We had intended to return here till we were locked out of the pool. As we told the staff i could not return to a hotel that treats their customers so unfairly.
The two reception staff were dreadful
I booked this hotel with my daughter, her husband and their two children (a 14 year old and a 17 month old) for a one week holiday. I know it was no fault of the hotel, but our flight (Excel - avoid them like the plague) was delayed for over 24 hours. We arrived tired and hungry at about 9.15pm and were horrified to find they had given our rooms away! You can imagine how we felt, especially with a young baby in tow. The two girls behind reception were incredibly unhelpful and rude. All they would say was that we had broken our contract. There was no sympathy for a missed day of our holiday, they just did not want to know. They eventually (and I mean eventually, it took at least 15 minutes) came up with two rooms in the basement of Block D - very dark and dingy and told us 'they are not as nice as the rooms we had allocated for you on the fourth floor of Block D'. However, they said that if we went back in the morning they would try to allocate other, better, rooms for us. My son-in-law and I went back at about 10.30am and were looked at with disdain and told that 'check out is at 12.00 and check in is at 2.00 so how could they re-allocate rooms to us at 10.30'?? Anyway, we reluctantly went back about 1.45 and were told that as we had not gone at 12.00 they had given those rooms away as well! I then heard them allocating fourth floor rooms in Block D to three German couples!!! It's true what the other reviewers say, they get preferential treatment, I'm afraid. We had to stay in our 'dungeons' for the rest of our stay. They also argued with me when I tried to book a safe key and was blatently over-charged. She told me one price, had a quiet chat with the other girl, then changed her mind and charged me for a full week instead of the mere 5 days we had left. I paid up to keep the peace. I just could not face an argument in the middle of reception. Overall, I cannot complain about the rest of the holiday. There was always something you could eat, the pool area was really nice and the half bottles of wine in the evening with dinner was a nice gesture. Some of the staff were really wonderful, they loved the baby, and some were sour faced, but none were as bad as these two reception staff. If I had my way they would be sacked immediately - but then, I'm only a paying customer - what is my opinion worth???
Auramar is a great hotel
We paid €34 per room per nite for this place (cheaper than a double room is a hostel) and we were throughly impressed by it! The foyer isn't as smoky as some people have made out, there is a bit of a smell but considering the bar is just behind the reception area it has to be expected I guess. The room itself was big and had more than enough storage space. We had a decent size balcony with a nice sea view. We had a TV with 20-odd channels, about 4 of them were English channels, BBC, Sky news etc. The pool area is nice and had plenty of sun loungers, and the beach was only a 2 min walk down the back of the pool It was in a great location and only a few minute walk from all the bars & restaurants( I recommend the Golden Gate chinese restaurant but avoid El Rancho, very average and over-priced) Staff at the hotel were polite enough and helped when they could. All in all a very good hotel for the price and I would highly recommend it!
Single traveller!
As a single person - holidaying alone, I was apprehensive. Although the staff at the Auramar weren't over friendly, the people in restaurants and bars on the strip made up for them. Met some wonderful people by the pool and I never felt lonely. The location was great - few minutes walk to the strip and the beach is only a few steps down by the pool area. For any single person travelling here - no need to feel unsafe at all. thoroughly enjoyed my trip!
Good Hotel - Fantastic Location
My wife and I have just returned from a week H/B at the Auramar. Having read previous poor reports, we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was a good size with two balconies and was very clean. The food was excellent each evening with a salad bar, veggie option and four or five mains which changed each night although we do agree that breakfasts were repetetive but no more so than most other hotels we have stayed in over the years. There was different entertainment each night - what we saw was OK but we were out most evenings just walking up the Strip or having a drink in one of the numerous bars. The biggest plus for this hotel is the fantastic location on a headland overlooking the sea and with easy access directly onto the main beach stretching all the way to the Old Town (about 20 mins walk if you can stand the heat during the day) (there are two other smaller beaches within 5-10 mins walk.). Our only niggle was, we left home at 2.00am, reached the hotel at 9.00am ,but were not allowed into our room until 2.00 pm! - very tired and in need of a freshen up after a long journey. It didnt bother us as we are quite fit but people with walking difficulties would have trouble as there are a number of flights of steps to the pool and within the hotel. All in all we found the Auramar an excellent hotel and would stay there again - most of the other hotels we considered before booking are well away from the beach and not an easy walk away. PS the lounge area still reeks of cigarette smoke and the dog still has the odd barking session (see previous reports).
variety of food. Great pool
On first impressions the hotel was lovely. As we drove into the hotel grounds the trees had fairy lights wrapped around them with a grand lobby. I have to say, the recpetion and lobby did not 'reek' like others have described. It was however a little smokey, proabably becasue it was situated about 10 feet from the bar. The staff were attentive throughout the holiday but i do agree they could have been a little more enthusiastic. We stayed half board which meant that we were able to have lunch ( if we were hungry) out of the resort. The variety was great however the food did become a little repetitive. Brekafast usually consisted of fruit, traditional english breakfasts, bread, cake, meat and cheese etc. Dinner consisted of much the same most days. Lots of meat, fish and vegetables as well as english food, sausages, burgers etc, most probably for the younger ones. The rooms were basic but i have to agree were cleaned everyday for a high standard. We had a fridge, and oven and lots of storage. We had the most amazing view we could wish for overlooking the sea and beautiful beach. Whilst i was there i had my birthday and recieved a birthday cake which i found when i returned from a day trip. It was a very pleasant idea which was greatly appreciated! The outdoor pool had loads and loads of sun loungers which was good and the pool was exceptionally clean which was nice. All in all, the hotel wass comfortable and basic and a very ideal location.
Very happy with the Auramar
Date 2nd May 2006 We have just returned from the Auramar on 30th April 2006, after reading some of the reviews I was not looking forward to going to this hotel, but when we arrived I was more than happy with the hotel. The food was good, I had my 3 grandchildren with me and we could always find something we could eat. The rooms were clean, the staff very helpfull and friendly in reception and the restaurant, the cleaners always spoke to us when we spoke to them. The view from this hotel is lovely, when having your evening meal . The mini golf in the hotel grounds was good for the children, the swiming pool outside was lovely. I will be going back again next year, for the money I paid I couldnt fault the hotel .
