My wife and I just got back after 3 weeks half board, the holiday provided through Mercury Direct. We had a room on the 6th floor (out of 7 levels) overlooking the street down to the main beach. It was a little noisy with normal traffic but nothing of concern. The room was... more

A good value hotel that is well situated near plenty of shops, cafes bars and the beach. Attention to detail that this hotel offers is seldom seen. Food is cooked just how you want it, just ask the chef to cook a little more or less depending upon your taste and that is... more

Excellent location
We have just returned from hotel las polomas, having booked it 2 weeks before we went. We were a bit dubious but found the hotel to be in an excellent location, busy lively lots to do and an excellent beach within 10 mins walking distance. There was one big downfall... the food was horrendous, everything was swimming in grease and had the same sauce on everything, no variety what so ever, same sickly cake every night We had 2 children with us who would not eat in there, Kids seemed to be a non-entity where food is concerned. Overall the hotel was spotlessly clean and well looked after, the hotel bar isnt too lively but there are plently of excellent bars within easy walking distance. I would recommend this hotel although not the food
A 3* hotel? More like a 2* ( and i'm being generous)!
Having read reviews about this hotel before we went there i was slightly concerned. And with good reason. The main problem with this hotel is the disgusting food which is kept lukewarm not hot as you would expect. Most of the staff at this hotel are ignorant and unfriendly except for a couple. We didn't like the food too much ( neither did many of the other guests) so we went off in search of an English place. Give the lukewarm food a miss and head to the "Black Bull" , just down the hill and turn right, for some decent English food at reasnable prices (a bacon sandwich is only 2.25 euros). Another problem with this hotel is the entertainment and (lack of) activities. The entertainment starts at 10.30 each night and is something uninteresting such as bingo. There are supposed to be activities between 12 and 4 but the entertainers rarely turned up to do these activities and when they did they would only let 12 year olds and younger participate which wasn't much fun for me and my brother as we are 15 and 17. Instead we went into the 1 swimming pool (not 2 as the brochure says) to have some fun. We took our lilo into the pool for four days. On the 5th day of our week long stay the management demanded that we take our lilos out of the pool and were not allowed to take them into the pool again. To me a lilo is part of a holiday and i was very annoyed that we were no longer allowed to use them. The games room is a room with lots of holes in the ceiling and most of the pool tables are out of order. Apart from the broken pool tables there are two air hockey tables and internet access. As for the "T.V lounge" there is a really ancient T.V with a poor reception and some chairs packed tightly around it. Throughout the hotel smoking is allowed which is not pleasant for non smokers who can't stand the smell. After seeing this hotel in the sunstart brochure i was thoroughly looking forward to my holiday. Fortunately the Costa del Sol is really lovely with beautiful weather as the hotel was a real let down. Me and my family were very disappointed with this hotel and advise you to book somewhere else.
Las Palomas Hotel
We were placed at las Palomas hotel after booking a last minute deal with Bath Travel, which enabled us to fly from our local aiport, which is Bournemouth International with the airline Palmair. After reading some of the reviews from this website and others, i was dubious about the condition of the hotel and what our stay would be like there. However, i needn't have worried. The hotel was far better than we thought it was going to be, even though in desire of a lick of paint on the outside, the inside was immaculate. The staff there are both friendly and helpful particularly the gentlemen behind the reception desk. We thought that the hotel had undergone recent refurbishment, as the rooms were fitted with air conditioning, the bathrooms were tiled and furnished with marble etc which exceeded our expectations and was more than satisfactory. Also, we found the food there, (even though we only ate dinner at the hotel), to be very tasty with a wide variety of choice. We also recommend anyone going to stay there to go to dinner at the earliest sitting of 6.30pm as it is less crowded then and you recieve the first batch of all the food! The pool area was very nice and the grounds of the hotel were very pretty, however, we refrained from using the pool as much as we could have done, because some of the guests from the hotel, placed their towels on the sunbeds around the pool and did not remove them for their whole holiday which meant people like us lost out - so i would urge you to do the same! However, to make up for this we spent many of our days on the spectacular beach, where we hired two sunbeds and a parasol for the day for only 8 euros! The surrounding area we also found to be picturesque with lots to do. The promenade at night was lively with many shops to visit and pubs, bars and restaurants - a must see! Also, the town of torremolinos, only a 10 minute walk up the hill, was also fantastic, with live music nearly every evening in the square. Don't let any of the reviews put you off - it is a brilliant place to visit, with spectacular weather! Have a nice holiday! x
Holidays wat u make it!!
Me and my boyfriend have just returned from 2 weeks on the Costa Del Sol - this hotel is lovely totally spotless (if u like a long lie in the mornings get a do not disturb sign maids don't stop till their in!!) inside although pool area could do with a bit of a clean up but what can u expect when its so packed! We ended up sunbathing in the garden area which is quiet (to sleep off those hangovers!)and a sun trap. Entertainment for adults around the pool area during the day is good though at night time its all for the kiddies. Found lots of lovely pubs along the beach front Caribean Cocktail is great loads of new cocktails to try out also does usual pub drinks as well as lovely meals but make sure u dont eat for a few days massive portions!(and for the ladies Patrick Swayze lookalike!!) what more can you ask for? As for the food in the hotel I'm not a fussy eater but it was unbearable some nights but occassional nights got not bad grub (just stay clear of the tined tomatos all mashed up aka - bolognese!! but there are plenty of nice eating out places just down the hill the mermaids food is lovely owers also and their cute little dog milly! For you partiers there is 24 hour square 7 euros from hotel it lives up its name really!! I Fot the croc park was a total rip off but probs good for the kids - Gibraltar is something u must do gorgeous place! ...Relax aznd enjoy!!
Value for Money but watch the Food
My wife and I arrived here on 23 June 2005 and stayed fo a week and agree in general with the other comments. Our room including the bathroom had been completely refurbished and was perfect. It also had working air conditioning and the maid service was excellent. The reception area was quite good and the staff were helpful and friendly. The resteraunt was ok and the food although it tasted alright left me with the runs. Be very careful what you eat. Best to use it at lunch time and eat out in the evening. The pool was very crowded and dirty. Forget about it and walk the 200mts to the great beach and hire 2 comfy beds and parasol for 8euro. The bar is a depressing dungeon, avoid it and go accross to the Mermaid.
Good value for money, just don't eat the Food!!!!
After a long year me and 4 friends decided to go on a cheap and cheerful girlie holiday, however budget was quite tight and stumbling upon this hotel at the price we wanted to pay seemed perfect. After reading some of the reviews we decided that just incase the food etc wasnt nice we would take extra spending money as we had all paid for Half Board. On arrival the Hotel looked lovely and for what we paid we couldnt complain, the reception was nice, a little old fashioned but clean. Nice welcome from the receptionist and then headed to our rooms. They were gorgeous and on 4th floor with a balcony and looked onto a nice grassy area. We had an adjoining door and a camp bed (which we knew about before we went). Only down fall was that the air condititioning in our room wasnt working and they werent for fixing it so we had to hire a fan. The pool is quite small for the size of the hotel, but the pool area itself was disgusting. Between ciggarette ends, bottles/cans/food etc you just couldnt have forced yourself to sit round it, however the grassy area was lovely and very quite. We went to restaurant that night for dinner, or so we thought. There was no choice, take it or leave it and everything was swimming in grease! I dont care how much i paid for the holiday i wouldnt have fed it to my dog! Breakfast was just as bad, if you didnt like bread rolls/crossiants or greasy fry ups then you would have starved. However you could get lunch instead of dinner and this is what we did, it was lovely lots of choice, nice salads, meats etc just couldnt understand the difference. All in all we had a fab time, new what we were in for with the food. Just be sure to take enough money to cover yourself!
great bar near the hotel.
Just come back from staying at the Las Palomas Hotel. I must say that i wasnt very impressed with the food. It was tasteless and not very appertizing even though it was always full it didnt me any favours, come thursday i was suffering with stomach cramps. The hotel it self is very clean. The pool could do with being a bit bigger. Also they could with stopping people reserving sun loungers because there is not enough for verybody. There is a nice bar down the road called The Mermaid and Bar Good Intent which are two english bars and the owners are very friendly and cook home food if you get feed up with the hotel food. I will go back to torremoninos again but not to this hotel.
Definitely value for money
Stayed in Las Palomas for 14 nights and very pleased with the set up. Agree with previous review on the meals but it is ,horses for courses, and you get what you pay for. Plenty of options at hand for a change of eatery at reasonable prices, superb location and would be tempted to go again, we had 3 rooms and all were air conditioned so they just have not got around to completing the installation.
great hotel for the price
My family and I have just returned from a 9 night stay here and it was very good value for money. The hotel is basic but very very clean and great maid service. The food is basic and not a great variety but you get what you need. Plenty of nice cafes to eat in anyway if we fancied a change. The restaurant was busy at all times so this says that the food was not that bad. A lot of Spanish tourists here. The hotel is well situated near torremolinos. A great pool. The roomas are not air-conditioned, just a fan which doesn't cool you much at night. Costa del sol has very high temperatures even in June, so be prepared for heat.
great value, extremely clean
I have just returned from this hotel after spending a week there 31 October 2004 - 7 November 2004. I had my 2 year old daughter with me and although it was not mid season we had an extremely enjoyable time. The hotel is spotless. We were only there one week and the maid changed our bed every day! The food, as you can expect abroad, is continental and caters for all nationalities but is of a high standard with lots of choice. The pool was very cold but I imagine in the season is well used. I looked at this hotels ratings on this site before I went and was worried by the ratings it had received. I need'nt have been. Not 5 star of course but it doesn't say it is. 3 yes and I will say again - spotless.
