Good and Bad Points
4 / 10
Jul 2011, david and june

My wife and I just got back after 3 weeks half board, the holiday provided through Mercury Direct. We had a room on the 6th floor (out of 7 levels) overlooking the street down to the main beach. It was a little noisy with normal traffic but nothing of concern. The room was very clean with good daily maid service. Many people arriving on budget holidays however were placed on 1st and 2nd floors in pretty dreary rooms with no views to the outside. This is an arrangement the hotel has with booking agents for budget guests. This info is not passed on until you arrive and there is a cost associated with moving to better accommodation. Check this before you book!
The hotel is on a hill although not steep and only 100 metres to the excellent beach. There is a short cut through the car park which no-one tells you about. We found the hotel catered only for the Spanish and none of the multitude of other European guests. The food initially was very poor, both in quality and variety although it did pick up towards the end of June as more Spanish guests arrived. The pool is excellent with a variety of activities. There is a lack of sunbeds however and all were occupied (towels on) by 7.30 each morning. The staff did nothing to deter this. Better to go to the beach at a cost of €4.50 per bed. Every thing you purchase in the hotel is expensive. There is a supermarket 50 metres away selling its goods at local prices.
We found the restaurant and bar staff very unhelpful and rude. Sadly that's nothing new in Spanish run hotels. You either accept this or book a Thomson holiday!
A regular bus service to is just around the corner and runs an excellent cheap service. Lovely friendly bar opposite the hotel entrance. Note that the mayor of Torremolinos has practically banned any pub activities or entertainment in Torremolinos therefore you will not see any artists or shows locally. Not many people are aware of this.
Overall a typical Spanish hotel about a 3*. The negatives I've described will stop us visiting again and certainly would not go back to this hotel.

just returned from a 8 day stay at the los palomas hotel
we found the hotel very clean, food was catered mainly for the spannish and very little english food to choose from great if you like fish and not much different in menu from day to day, we where however a little put off by one of the waitresses coughing over clean cutlery and made no attempt to cover her mouth, good job this was on the morning we where leaving, otherwise we would have made a complaint.
other than that our rooms where spotless, and the location was ideal.

Initially I was a bit concerned after reading a few bad reviews however, I can truly say to anyone considering staying at this hotel, go for it! My boyfriend and I are fairly fussy when it comes to cleanliness etc. and we were extremely happy with Las Palomas.
We stayed for a week and were more than happy with the hotel and its facilities and staff. The reception staff were always polite, although one or two didn't understand english very well (which wasn't an issue at all).
We were pleasantly surprised by the size of our room, it was very clean and spacious and looked out onto the pool . The room was cleaned and towels changed on a daily basis. Overall the hotel was very clean aswell. The pool was lovely, some reviews have claimed there arent enough sunbeds, however we didnt really have this problem. Some have also stupidly complained about a "hill" on which the hotel is situated. Once me and boyfriend went to have a look around the area we could not stop laughing at this "hill", which realistically can only be described as a slight incline. Its spain for goodness sake! The location is fantastic!!!!! everything is close by and you can have a lovely walk along the promenade.
So if your a bit apprehensive about booking this hotel as we were, don't be! Also, regarding the food, we were booked in as bed and breakfast and the breakfast was fine, no complaints. I can't say anything about lunch and dinner but there are hundreds of lovely places to eat down along the prom so I wouldnt be worried!

A good value hotel that is well...

A good value hotel that is well situated near plenty of shops, cafes bars and the beach. Attention to detail that this hotel offers is seldom seen. Food is cooked just how you want it, just ask the chef to cook a little more or less depending upon your taste and that is just what he will do.
Anything that is not quite right with your spacious room is dealt with either immediately or the same day, whether you need an extra pillow after arriving on a late flight or your balcony light is not working, nothing is too much trouble.
Hotel may be situated on a hill and be difficult to cross directly opposite the hotel, but we found the secret was to walk down the hill and cross by taxi rank. Here you will also find the Black Bull cafe bar ran by English couple, Tony and Margaret, Leeds United supporters, but we did not hold this against them unless it clashed with the soaps we had gone there to watch! Good food, everything on menu is a large portion.
Pool area is good and pool is easy to enter, with wide walk in steps. Also if you are in the right place at the right time, you could have a massage or facial in gazebo by the pool.
Cannot wait to go back to this hotel and will probably be the only one in this area we will use despite visiting this area many times and staying in various hotels along this coast.

Really good hotel and very clean which is what it is about as with kids need no upset tumms etc..
We were on only b&b, but good brekkie , even the bacon is ok
. Hotel very close to beach , plus the many shops and bars, . I would say however there is no nightlife for kids!!!???
I WAS GUTTED AS I TOOK MY MUM
.... aLL IN ALL VERY GOOD ...
las palomas could not get you closer to anything you wanted.. beaches are a gift , but dont pay for thier beds as they are a bit expensive over a 2 week period
and most kids play in sand.
. do not have cherry,s or mango , melon etc from the guys who sell as they do rip u off
4 euros per small glass, ask first!!
but going back to hotel ,,, no entertainment for kids in hotel!BIT ANNOYED WITH tTHAT !!!
although it did say so.. one night was birds of pray...
Do not stay home for this !!!!!
20 euros for a jug of sangria which to be honest is a bit potent, and im a brandy drinker
All in all a top class hotel just where you want it by beach and nightlife etc.. I would love to go back, and we will . pool area is clean with lifeguard and a masseaur on tap plus gymnasium looking out on pool
Staff at this hotel were friendly, and accomodating getting a shower room and the key , no problem, If you need any more direction , then you are daft it is ideal location for both , but be advised you are on a small slope ...
Most are in a a terrible slope
for prams etc
torremolinos but las palamas is shorter than most.... Bars around las palomas are ok.. just ok
but a good family bar with english is just down hill with a caraff of red wine was the black bull .. 1 caraffe and a fanta plus coke was 9 euros
A very top eating out for kids is next door . CHEERS BAR.. we did not go to it until last day cos i looked at all reviews
most said black bull and mermaid
mermaid has gone bigger and changed names, next to the corner of the street. NOW CALLED CHEERS!!!!!.
We only tried it on last night but my boy doesnt like much , he is 7
he loved the sausage as it is irish ... and it was.
In all a very good clean hotel , with b&b no problem at all. 25 euros no more from airport.
hotel charges 29 euros to call taxi to airport... no problem honestly good pool for kids and nightlife. ...... start at the top of hotel and work down the slope
happy hols.............
beds on beach are 9 euros for 2 , but they are really good...
any questions plz feel free to see me on here or ask a question
HAPPY HOLS

We booked the hotel as a three star but when we arrived it had been upgraded to a four and it was well worth it too. It was spotless the rooms cleaned everyday the food was not to good on the first few days but then it just got better and better. (Sirlion steak, Viel, great sea food choice). Breakfast still needs to be worked on but if your looking for a greasey fry up go to Blackpool. Why we were there we had brand new beds and fridges put in our rooms. The Staff were excellant any problems dealt with straight away. Well worth the money.

Nov 2007, Mr Ken Fullicks

I have lost count of the number of times that I have visited this Hotel - lots of improvements and updates over the years. Situated on the edge of town with a short walk into Torremolinos centre, head for Calle San Miguel.
The bedrooms are newly renovated and have air con, TV etc with some English channels.
Reception and waiting staff very friendly and not laughing too much at my faltering Spanish..
The beach is a short walk down the hill and the pool area is very spacious. Pool beds are a bit hard but OK for us who are well-padded!
Food is excellent - good choices - salads exceptional.
Overall a very good experience and will definitely be returning once again.

Oct 2007, Ms J Norton

We stayed here for 1 week and after reading site reviews were very nervous, however we enjoyed our stay the staff were fine.
The rooms were clean, the food was good, the location was excellent, you are near to shops pubs the beach and the town centre as well as the airport, and our only tiny gripe was the beds were uncomfortable.
Other than that it is worth what you pay for a 3 star.

Ideally located, not far to walk to all amenities.
Hotel very clean, staff polite and helpful. Pool bar excellent and the pool area and gardens were immaculate!
Plenty of choice in the food department, despite other reviews. If you want egg and chips .... stay at home!
The hotel kittens were adorable! Would definitely go back again.

We book our holiday with First Choice...
8 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss J Fitton

We book our holiday with First Choice at the Hotel Las Palomas. We hadn't been to the Costa del Sol before and had been told Torremolinos was very nice.
The hotel itself was very nice, and very clean the maid came everyday, sometimes twice to change towels etc. Bed changed twice or three times a week. The rooms had air con, a TV which had English channels on, double bed, and a safe. I was upset there wasn't a bath, but the shower was good.
I hate bugs but I can say over the two weeks I was there I didn't see one cockroach!
The staff are very helpful, and can speak English. The pool area was also very clean and had nice waterfalls to cool you off. The only problem was the sunbeds - they were very hard, but if you go down to the beach the sun beds are like big beds, very nice.
Went half board but we didn't really like the food, so we went to the pub at the bottom of the hill - the Black Bull. It was great! Lovely people, certainly worth going. Made us feel right at home, ate every meal there.
The night shows at the hotel are very good; lots going on every night, dancing, bingo, discos everything, and it didn't go on all night!
Overall a very good hotel. Worth a visit.

We booked a last minute holiday to...
8 / 10
Aug 2007, natamegarya

We booked a last minute holiday to anywhere in Spain and when we arrived we were allocated this hotel in Torremolinos.
At first we were a little disappointed, however our pre-conceived ideas of this Costa del sol town we completely unfounded, it has undergone a major beach front renovation and now could not be a cleaner and more pleasant place for a family vacation.
The hotel although a little dated was clean and all the staff were very helpful , and would go out of their way to help sort out ant questions you may have, the pool and poolside bar were great and have also recently been renovated.
The beach is only a short walk away (3mins) as are the abundance of restaurants, bars, and local shops everyone is so friendly and we were not hassled at all as we walked each night along the sea front in what seemed to be a great family atmosphere , seafood is absolutely fantastic in the restaurants in the town but beware you pay by weight and it can be very expensive.
There are so many things to do in Torremolinos but the train system is so easy and clean it is no problem to travel further afield to Gibraltar or Fuengirola(very large Spanish market).
If you travel to Torremolinos in late August you may get the chance to observe the local festival where the whole town goes into festival mode for the entire week it is fantastic.
Back to the hotel ,the food was excellent and even our youngest child (7) was entirely satisfied with all the choices the provided, across the road from the hotel is a scuba diving centre where the staff are so helpful and enthusiastic that I highly recommend a day’s discover scuba course with these guys.
The rooms were all cleaned daily with fresh towels, they provided toys in the pool for the kids, try to ask for a room with a pool view other than the view from the front of the hotel we had a great and really surprising holiday in this hotel and resort.
Come to this town and fully immerse yourself in all the hotel and town have to offer and I feel you can’t fail to have a good time.

Hotel room clean and well kept....
5 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr C Pitt-Payne

Hotel room clean and well kept. Breakfast good. Evening meal Horrendous, the attempt at English cuisine was like eating rotten veg and meat that tasted like a three day old flip flop.
The traditional Spanish options were varied but predominantly fish based and got very tedious. The sun beds are designed to be the most uncomfortable thing known to man.
The beach is the better option.
Entertainment, for a hotel that should have four staff for this function 'Taz' the sole entertainments chap does an exceptional job and ALL the kids love him. The staff are friendly although not the most dynamic at bar service. The vodka served in the bar is very watered down (buy your own from local shop and just order your mixer, but don’t make it too obvious).
Avoid the breaded fried fish option, gave me, my wife and child a week of tummy ache. As a base for going out from on the B and B option though the Hotel does suffice and is ideally placed.
