"cheap and cheerful"

Jul 2011, happy days

I stayed at this hotel in june for 1 week with my husband and 10year old son. Dont book transport train at the airport only 4 euros for the 3 of us and 4 stops along, 10 min walk to hotel.
To be honest i felt the facilities were not big enough for the amount of guests staying here, if you have a big family i can understand why as it is a cheap holiday, but you do only get what you pay for!!!!it did reflect on the price paid. On a positve note the staff at this hotel work rally hard ,the food for a 3 star hotel is exellant cant really say much more did except aquapark well worth a visit .Take a taxi to belamadina marina only 10 euros. I would not reccomend this hotel to friends and would not stay here again sorry .

This hotel was not as I thought it would be the lifts in it you have to wait ages for. The entertainment was not good as you have to pay to play pool 2 euros a time darts 5euros ping pong you buy bats and balls at the reception etc nothing is free even if your all inclusive. Rooms are kept clean but are average bathroom is very small but clean, third bed for child was in the loby part of the room so he was looking at the entrance door to the room. It is only 3 star and thats all you get.At the beach you pay 5.50 euros for 1 seat.

To sum up the holiday bearing in mind im not a fussy person as i believe u get what you pay for....great variety of food and does change- try the pizza as its made right in front of you and is lovely! AI is brill as it is until 12, although when you can eventually order a drink- order loads and bring someone with you so you can get more as the queues are ridiculous! would hate to see it in the high season! Also a great selection of snacks up until 12AM (watch out though cos you only get the plain crisps free)
The rooms are fine and maids come daily... lifts are actually a nightmare, honestly! for 400 odd rooms there are only 4 lifts which fit 8 ppl max into them and while i was there one broke down, so had to wait ages and i was on the 7th floor- awful for the elderly and impatient!
big pool but maybe a bit small relative to the hotel. And the beds are hard to find if you dont get up early- also a nightmare!I also seen that there is no childrens pool which wasnt family friendly, although brill entertainment for them!
overall i would recommend, BUT not to the elderly, couples and beach lovers as its quite a distance and im not sure if a small group of girls would enjoy Torremolenous cos some men are leery and rude which does intimadate...
Finally there was a bit of a problem at one stage as one person in the group got a full drink dropped on their head by a rowdy group from the 5th floor, when we went to complain to security about it- he didnt do anything except say "go to reception" NOT very good...

  • Advice: eat in the chinese across the street- lovely! :) beach is gr8, go there but get a taxi, its about €7!

We booked this hotel all inclusive as it was so cheap so we wasn’t expecting too much when we got there. We really were pleasantly surprised as the hotel staff was friendly, the room was clean which is very important to me. Yes the food can be a bit repeated, but there is a mix of what you can eat and for how much it cost us, we were happy. If your taking kids, they always serve nice chips, pizza and other stuff kids seem to like. The hotel itself is a little bit old fashioned, but not in a bad way. The drink was pretty good too we managed to get tipsy each night! The weather was gorgeous, the room was fine, the location was good (its about a 10/15min walk to the beach), but very local to all the shops & attractions such as the crocodile park & water park. We don’t have kids so it was myself and my partner (we are 29) and it ticked all the boxes. We just wanted to chill by the pool almost all day, eat and drink – perfect for this. There were lots of kids there who seemed happy enough playing in the pool. For us, the nigh time entertainment wasn’t great so we did other things, but from what we saw the kids like it. Overall, we enjoyed it and you cant really moan when its so cheap! It’s a 3 star so don’t go there expecting a palace, expect it to be nice and accommodating and you’ll enjoy it.

Overall this hotel is 3 star and performs like a 3 star hotel. the staff are very pleasant and the try to accommodate with the limited amount of English. this hotel is truely a multinational hotel with approx 30% English, and this does not baud well with the entertainment, as they have to try to accommodate 3 different languages,, and this can take out some of the enjoyment out of the shows. But putting this aside the hotel is only a short walk from the beach and the main centre there are plenty of places to eat.
The rooms are clean and what you would expect from a holiday room not too large but fits in ok. they have a TV in your room with CNN and BBC World Service.
Overall not a bad hotel or holiday experience.

When we arrived at the hotel there was somebody at reception ready to serve us. They gave one member of our party an adult all inclusive wristband, although she was only 17 and they had checked the passports. Our rooms were on the 9th floor, which wasn't too bad until the lifts got busy. And the cleaner decided to stop both lifts for 20 minutes to clean them at lunchtime, when it was very busy. We had to take the stairs. The room was not bad, quite old fashioned but it was clean, and got cleaned every day. The shower was a hose attached to the bath tap, which the maid moved back down every day. It was very high to reach to put back up. The toilet splashed water everywhere when you flushed it. We all managed to find food to eat. There was a lot of choice but was quite similar day to day. The best part was the pizza bar which served pizza, burgers and freshly grilled meat. Breakfast was the best meal of the day, with a huge selection. Drinks had very generous measures. There are 4 bars, so there is always somewhere you can go to get drinks and they serve alcohol all day until 12 all inclusive. The bar staff were all lovely. They were friendly and up for a laugh. The only place to really sit and drink is the reception area which can get quite cold at night when people come in and leave the doors open. Pepes bar had good music late at night but no alcohol. The entertainment was pretty awful at night, apart from one night there was a music quiz. Entertainment during the day would be good for children as there is always new activities.
Overall, it was okay but would not go back or recommend to friends as it was very basic.

booked a last minute break with my 3 year old daughter and my friend, and could have no complaints with this accomodation. We couldn`t fault the food, there was something for everyone. The entertainment in the evenings was great, the professional shows were fantastic and appealed to all ages. The only small gripe i would have was that the sun didn`t shine on the pool for the whole day due to the design of the hotel so we had to keep moving our sunbeds to chase the sun. There was a roof terrace where you could get the sun all day though and you could also use their sister hotel by the beach which got the sun all day,you have to book at reception the night before. All in all a great 10 day break and would happily return.

I stayed at the Griego Mar for 4 nights with my friend - we're both in out 40's. We needed a really cheap short break for rest and relaxation and it was lovely. (It probably helped that the weather was beautiful!)
The hotel was lovely and clean and we had maid service in the room, with clean towels, every day.
Food at the hotel is varied and very good. The chef clearly takes pride in the kitchen's output and they avoid the problem of over-salting food which I've come across before in Spain. With one veggie and one fairly picky omnivore in the party, we had no trouble finding plenty we wanted to eat at every meal. Having eaten well at main meals, the only time we used the snack bar was the day we missed lunch, and that was good too.
Drinks were very generous, the coffee was delicious and the staff hard-working and helpful. Top tip: they let you keep you AI bands on all day on your departure day, which saves loads of money if, like us, you have a late flight.
The down-sides of this hotel are that the beds are rather hard and the pillows are not great - it's probably worth asking for an extra pillow. Also, the room where the main entertainment is in the evening has unfortunate acoustics, making the slightest noise seem loud, and meaning you cannot hear what's said over the microphone. This wasn't a problem for us, as we just went for a wander though the town in the evenings after a late dinner.
Agreed: the pool was cold. However, what else can you expect in April? It was lovely and refreshing for a dip and was kept clean.
Just a heads-up if you have little children: I'd be surprised to find the food unsuitable for little ones, however there isn't a kiddie pool so they do need to be able to swim/confident in a larger are of water. I would probably take little ones for a short break but not for the main family holiday because of this and because it's a bit of a walk to the beach. (Fine for adults/big kids but little ones would complain/need to go in a buggy.)

  • Advice: I'd definitely go there for a short break again.
