We read the reviews before we left and thought oh my god what are we letting ourselves in for lol, we arrived at the hotel on the 18th Aug, the staff seemed friendly enough, the room was an okay size there wasnt much room with 3 of us in there, the bathroom was small but served its purpose. The rooms were cleaned every day and we had a change of sheets once in a week. There is no air conditioning in the rooms although there is a ceiling fan which to be honest just circulated the hot air. The hotel states it has a gym there is no gym, the childrens play area is a slide and a broken rocking animal. The jacuzzi is only allowed to be used between the hours of 10 am and 1pm. The food was not really what i expected, very little choice and i found thAt the hotel did not cater for childrens tastes, my daughter hardly ate anything and although we were all inclusive we ended up eating out most nights, there were snacks available from 4pm to 6pm bread and ham etc. Porto Colom is a lovey place in itself, clean and not very comercialised, we found most things cheaper in Porto Colom than at duty free in the airport!! the beach is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel and there is also a " entertainment" square for the kids which has a few fair rides bouncy castles and trampolines etc. We ate out at Ollies bar which is also on the above square but the best meal we had was at El Cactus situated on the beach. I would go back to Porto colom but would not use the hotel on an all inclusive basis it is just as cheap to go selfcatering, for the 3 of us a meal with drinks and deserts cost us around 50 euros.
4th time visiting this fab wee hotel
from happyfamily1
just returned back from the estoril hotel porto colom with my two children. this is the 4th year we stayed in this hotel AND WAS AS GOOD AS EXPECTED AGAIN. rooms, staff, food all great as in previous years. The kids entertainer Sebastian was very well liked by all the kids and has a very plesant manner. Porto Colom is a quiet place but has all our family needs for a relaxing holiday, including many restraunts, some shops and a fab marina. Cala d'or is the place to shop and the Starfish boat trip daily, is fab for the kids to explore the coastline to cala d'or. my kids love it year after year. Not forgetting the wee market on a tuesday on the street by the side door of the hotel at the end of the road. Also note fans are available at reception if your room is too hot free of charge. Pool area nice and clean and bar staff and dinning staff very friendly. My one and only disapointment was on previous visits the snacks were across the road by the ping pong table all day every day, but are no longer there. Snacks are only available from 4 - 6 pm in the restraunt and has not got the same variety (BRING BACK THE SELECTION AND MOST OF ALL THE PIZZAS FOR THE KIDS WHICH WERE FAB). This is my only disapointment as the kids enjoyed that if not wanting food at meal times. The night time manager (from Hungary) is very nice and is most helpful when needed. Rooms great, towels reg changed and food as good as always. well done estoril..........see you next year with my kids,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,regards from scotland
2* accommodation, -1* food!!
from LeicesterCouple
Just arrived back from 10 night stay at Hotel Estoril. Loved the area, very quiet and relaxing, beach beautiful, local buses great! Having researched the hotel it was almost what we were expecting - 2*!!! BUT, on arrival had room with broken patio glass, staff not really interested in it, would have been very dangerous with children.. Staff not very happy, no information on hotel procedures given on arrival, had to find it out ourselves, and not at all informative on surrounding areas. Biggest let down was the food, it was absolutely atrocious, food was recyled night after night and was consistently very cold. Lots of children were just eating bread rolls (which were stale) as food was inedible at times. But if the price was right would go back again - but this time be prepared to eat out! Yes there were sunbeds available everyday, if you were prepared to put your towels out at 7am!! But the beach is well worth a visit.
excellent holiday

i have just returned from an excellent holiday at the estoril hotel porta colom. i had read all the reveiws before i went and thought god what have i let myself in for. i arrived on the satuday night to what i can only describe as a dark room at the back of the hotel. i then went down to the bar and spoke to a very nice couple from glasgow who told me to ask for a change of room, i proceeded to reception to be told to ask in the morning to see what was available, in the morning i got a change of room to room one and i never looked back from then. i stayed at the estoril hotel myself and was absolutely delighted with it, there was a lot of moans and groans around which i felt were unneccessary some people there is no pleasing, food was good, if anything entertainment was poor and as said by previous guests bar closes prompt 11am and its same everywhere else in porta colom. i had absolutely no problem getting a bed at pool each day, first time ever abroad there wasnt towels on beds. i certainly would return here as i made a lot of very nice friends and really enjoyed myself thanks especially to michelle, rob, dean lisa, paul and lisa xx regards helen
Had a fantastic time.

I've just returned from a weeks stay at the Estoril Hotel, i was with my two children and my friend with her two children. We were pleasantly surprised as we were thinking the worse after reading the reviews!! if we had read the reviews first we would have not booked this hotel. I have no complaints whatsoever, the rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels replaced, food was fantastic and plenty of it a different choice every day (i have put on a few pounds)!! Pool area clean and tidy, pool quite small but had no complaints from the children. The only complaint i would say is we were all inclusive but ice lollies, ice cream and crisps not included. If you like late nights this is not the hotel for you bar closes at 11pm sharp!! and you have to be quiet by 12pm if not you do get told to be quiet by the staff!! Overrall had a fantastic holiday and would definetly go back again.
had a pleasant week

We must be easily pleased is all I can say! I have read other reviews so feel I can comment although I do notice that mine is the only one for 2007. We arrived at the hotel were seen to straight away by a SMILING young lady. The manager asked if we had a preference for our room ground floor or second. He carried our bags for us. Yes it looks " tired " and the carpets need replacing, but hey, who sleeps on the carpet???Our room was clean, the beds were changed twice in the week we were there as were the towels.Food was typical hotel buffet, plenty of choice. Waiters and waitress were very pleasant and helpful. Didin't have a problem getting a sun bed, nice little pool in the sun all day therefore warm.Lovely harbour to walk round after dinner, sit outside a small restaurant people watching with a coffee and brandy. Its not an area I would rush back to, but at the price we got it (booked friday, went monday) we can't complain.

worst experience of my life!
from holidayhelltoo
Just arrived back from a week at this "all inclusive hotel!" - wanted to treat my pensioner Mother as we live 300 miles apart. On arriving at this Hotel we were met by a surly Manager who was clearly not very experienced and did not readily impart any information about the hotel facilities and resourt area. We had requested a ground floor room but was informed it would not be suitable as two women on our own! Offered a room in the next block which had a lift (the lift did not work). The stairs to the three floors were we stayed had dangerously threadbare carpets and were filthy and stained and were not hoovered the week we were there. Two standard size rusting ashtrays where situated on the landing of each floor and were full all week. The doors to the two landings on these floors had been covered with some stainless steel metal (obviously to comply with fire regulations) these were all propped open by two motheaten dirty chairs!! There was not coffee/tea facilities in the restaurant area as the machine had broken and remained broken all week. The water out of the machine was salty and many people complained - no notice was taken. The all inclusive snack bar did not exist for three days but after many complaints the snack bar was then opened only to discover the leftovers from lunch left in the trays on a warmer. The food was substandard and for health reasons we fealt we had to eat out as much as possible which added a further cost to a supposingly all inclusive deal. Desert consisted daily of tinned mandarins in a bowl, tinned fruit cocktail in a bowl, cold rice pudding in a bowl, jelly, and cake. They constantly ran out of basics suchs as orange juice, coffee/tea and fresh water, even salt in the table containers. We heard one night an argument from the bar area as they had ran out of wine, vodka and Brandy - a fight almost ensued because of this. The entertainment consisted of Bingo for two nights at 5 euros a game, Karoke another night and a little spanish man another night singing and pulling out members of the audience for ridcule. - that was the weeks entertainment. The bar was open late every night and we had fours hours a night's sleep at the most due to the carrying on and disgusting behaviour of the eight or so drunken revellers i.e. extensive swearing, throwing clothes off/nudity, jumping into the pool and baby pool, damaging the pools toys and floats and abuse to the other occupants who asked them to be quiet. The police were called out on the last night we were there even though the majority of the occupants were requesting that much earlier. this would appear to be a standard going on for this holtel and not just an unlucky week for us and the restaurants in the area were fully aware of this particular hotel and its carryings on. The supposingly gymn and sauna were located in the basement of the hotel and were kept locked. The staff were also surly and unkept, some wearing jeans, the manager being one of them. We were told the beach was near by, 1/2 an hours walk at least and the charge for the beach loungers and brolly amounted to 11 euros a day EXTORTIONATE. Porto Colom is pretty around the harbour and I can see the attraction for the sailing community as the mooring was good and there are a couple of pretty restaurants on the harbour front. All in all the worst week we have ever had and I would recommend that this dirty filthy hotel be pulled down.
Bad holiday

Got this deal online cheap all inc. Waited 45 mins to get booked in... along with whole of my plane - 1 person on reception . Pool area tiny and cramped with not enough sun beds. Rooms are awful - bed broke and ended up sleeping on the floor tiles for 3 nights with a very painful back. Balcony looked directly at a wall 2 metres away. Food was really bad, smell from the dining room make by partners stomach churn. Entertainment(?)not great. Jaccuzzi water dirty. This is the only holiday I've ever cried on. Overall I would never go back.

I have stayed here 3 years in a row and loved it, a great cheap holiday, as its all inclusive and its a really little village there isnt much to do but chill out and sunbathe, great for a cheapy holiday, entertainment not great but a laugh, food great with a big selection buffet style - nothing too fancy but great for adults and kids alike. staff lovely and friendly, accomodation basic but clean
