An excellent hotel, and although we only stayed for one weekend its pretty certain we will go back there sometime. In fact the only downside I can think of is the location is a little tacky, although having said that it is well placed for other tourist attractions. The... more

Elegant and peaceful

Just returned from a wonderful 10th anniversary trip to Paris. We stayed three nights, and enjoyed a luxurious room overlooking the courtyard. The room was very quiet and being parents of young children, we caught up on our romance and our sleep! The service was excellent; extremely courteous and thoughtful. The concierge was very helpful with suggestions for restaurants, and even drew us a map of the selected restaurant. I expected the Rue de Berri to be much worse after reading some of the comments on this site. There is no dispute however about the very convenient location, within a few minutes you are on the Champs Elysees. We will definitely come back!
Tres magnifique!!!!

2 thums up. Very friendly and accomidating staff. beutiful rooms and patio at the back of the hotel. One word of caution, we set up a "wine tour" through Champaign which was a disaster. $1000 for 6 people and the driver had no idea where he was going. We were only able to go to one place the entire day. The hotel did manage to get the us a discount but it still was a total waist of time and money. Overall Lancaster one of the best I have stayed in Paris.
Loved the Lancaster
from A TripAdvisor Member
What a fabulous hotel! I stayed here in May with my boyfriend for a short break. We were given the most beautiful suite (the Emile Wolf suite). The hotel was charming with some very personalised touches which were a great relief after spending a day in busy Paris. Yes, the street is not grand but the hotel more than makes up for this. The staff were very friendly and attentive and spoke good english. This hotel is truly magnificent and I would definately return!
Best hotel in Paris - worst location in Paris.
from jpmay
Not only is it the best hotel in Paris / worst location in Paris, the Lancaster is a contender for best hotel in World / worst location in World ! It's really a shame. It is on a small incredibly ugly street right off the Champs Elysee. (Tourist hell.) It is surrounded by incredibly ugly concrete car parks, chain restaurants, etc. There are four or five "epic" palace hotels in Paris. The Lancaster may be the best of them all since it is so subtle, etc. But the location is disaster. If (for some reason) you want to be, or have to be, near the Champs Elyssee / Arc d'Triumphe, you can choose the Lancaster.
We'll be back soon

For our first trip to Paris, we wanted a memorable hotel and the Lancaster was a wonderful choice. We'll stay there again for our next visit, which will be soon. We'll return to the Lancaster for its location, ambiance and staff and, especially, its concierges. While the Lancaster is more expensive than other hotels in Paris, it was small, quiet and beautiful, with only a handful of guests. More importantly, the advice of the concierges more than accounted for the difference in price. Each of our dinners was good (a couple were great), we shopped in the right places and found the things we wanted instead of wasting time and money searching out places and things on our own. The Lancaster's staff worked overtime to make sure our visit to Paris was all it could be. We're learning French and can't wait to back.
A little treat!

We've just returned from a long weekend at the Lancaster. It was my partner's second stay at the hotel and when we checked in they had somehow worked this out even though I had done the booking. They'd pulled up his address which I hadn't given them when I booked...we were baffled but it was a nice touch. And that's what this hotel is about - little touches that make it special. Funnily enough we had the same room as well. Not sure if this was intentional? Staff at the hotel we friendly and very helpful without exception. Our room was comfortable and large by Parisian standards but was a little tired. Although our room looked out onto the street it was very quiet. If you're looking for a quiet retreat in a great location this is the place to stay. It's special but it's pricey. We got a 3 night weekend rate of 518 Euros for a prestige room.... compared to the bigger hotels though I suppose we got a bargain!
Quintessential Paris

I recently returned from Paris and chose this hotel based in part on the wonderful comments here. It was a total delight. The room was just what you would want in Paris - high ceilings, beautiful antiques and linens, modern bathroom. The staff were delightful and completely helpful. The small touches are wonderful - e.g. bon voyage cookies. We didn't eat in the hotel so I can't comment on the food. The only drawback is that the location, although convenient, isn't the most charming. It's right off the Champs Elysee, on a somewhat cheesy side street. However, it was so delightful that we didn't care.
Room service disapointing
from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading all the wonderful reviews on this site, I decided to stay at this hotel on my last trip to Paris (Juanary 16th-19th 2205). The place is nice, well located, althought it looks a little run down (some painting work necessary in the corridors) . I stayed in a suite on the 7 th floor, and the elevator stops at the 6 th floor so watch out if you have any disability or cannot climb stairs. The suite was spacious, very nice antique furniture and good quality paintings, althought it was on two levels, and had to help the waiter to lift the dinner we order to the salon, and the breakfast the next two days. Room service is definetively not good. When we got to the hotel it was 8.30 pm and we were tired from touring Bretagne and Normandie for a week, so we decided to have dinner in the room. First disapointment: the menu offered was very poor, very few dishes and nothing special (also 2 o 3 wines in the wine list). I asked the reception if we could order from the restaurant menu and have it served to the room. They said no problem, and 30 minutes later when we called to see why they had not brought the menu from the restaurant a guy who could barely speak french told us that it was not possible to have food from the restaurant served in the rooms. We ordered then from the (poor) room service menu. It took quite a while until they brought the food. Half of it was cold. When the waiter opened the wine bottle (it costed 56 Euros), they did not gave us a chance to taste it first, and it turned out the wine was "bouchoné" (do not know the word in english). So call again to oder another wine, while the food it is getting even colder....I called again, I complained about all this but never heard anything back. Anyway, as I said, the Lancaster is a nice hotel to stay, but in my opinion it is not comparable to the Meurice, the Crillon or the Athénée, even if in this list is rated first.
Great homey atmosphere

Loved this hotel! Expensive but we had a nice room, very comfortable and quiet. Friendly staff. GREAT breakfast included with our room. Not my favorite neighborhood, but a great hotel.

We were there for three days and had the most wonderful experience. The food and the concierge service was fantastic. Everything was to the highest standards. Would recommend to anyone. Also we recommend that the concierge make reservations for Yatch de Paris
