My wife and I booked a two-week holiday at the Nerja Club Hotel in July, 2011, with half board. We booked it nearly nine months in advance, discovering what we thought was a bargain not to be missed, however early. Setting out, we were a little worried that there might be a... more

Out of Town
The Nerja Club was a compact but friendly hotel. The first room we were given was very small and smelt of damp. We complained to the rep and were moved to a better bedroom but this room was very noisy being able to listen to the TV in rooms next door to ours. This room was very clean and was serviced every day to a good standard and the TV had a lot of English channels including sports channels. The food is basic but was well cooked although did lack a bit of Spanish idea but this did suit the mainly British customers. The Caves of Nerja are worth a visit and is the lovely village of Frigillana. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone with walking problems as it is on the out skirts of Nerja and is a 20 mins steady walk to the centre of Nerja and about 15 mins down hill walk to one of the best beaches in the Costa de Sol, Playa Burriana.. The beach is unspoilt and has a very friendly atmosphere with a few café bars and some excellent restaurants. Taxis in Nerja are just 5 euros per journey. The nightly entertainment was average but suited the elderly clients
Disappointing Room
My room, which was in the front of the hotel, was very small and in need of a thorough renovation. Ceiling above shower was black with mould. The air conditioning unit was extremely noisey so I could not have this on during the night or whenever I wanted to look at the television. Excellent choice of English TV channels. The walls must have been paper thin as I could hear conversations from the adjoining room. The breakfast was only fair. I found the fry to be very greasy and the staff were struggling to keep the area supplied with bowls and cutlery. I would be very reluctant to stay in this hotel again. I'm amazed that it has a three star rating.
Hotel not bad, although avoid the nightly entertainment
This hotel is quite good value for money and is well located for the beach. Although definitely more suitable for the older clientele ie over60s. Having booked a last minute deal we were pleased to get a nice room with a terrace, at the back of the hotel. The food was okay, quite good, but little variation. We had to escape the nightly entertainment, so spent our evenings in bars around balcon europa. Not sure if I will return to this hotel, perhaps when I'm older!
Nothing special
Very dissappointed on checking in after staying in the Hotel Los Acros (two minutes down from Nerja Club), they did not have availability for our last night. The room at the Nerja Club was downstairs - bright green wooden furniture (I thought it was plastic at first), no tea/coffee facilities, no hairdryer, beds were quite hard (sheets although clean and pressed had holes in). The hotel did have an OK selection of UK TV programmes. The balcony was tiny and as we were on ground level, this was right on the road. Air con unit worked fine and the rooms and bathroom in general were clean. Staff were OK and friendly enough. The other areas of the hotel i.e Bar, Pool and seating areas probably warrant a three star rating, but this definitely does not extend to the bedrooms. Would I stay here again....NO. Hotel Los Acros is by far a better bet, they also has one of the best recommended restaurants in Nerja - the food was excellent, but advise you should book in advance.
Something for Everybody
Our second visit to Nerja and our two teenagers asked could they return to Nerja and especially the Nerja Club Hotel. We had a wonderful two-week break, lots of friendly people and their families made it an enjoyable time for the whole family. Once again the food was excellent, great choices for both breakfast and evening meals. The staff in all areas of the hotel could not do enough for you, especially if you attempted to speak Spanish to them. The rooms are looking a little tired and need a refursbisment, and there does seem to be a shortage of family rooms even though we booked six months in advance, nonetheless we had a lovely room with balcony overlooking the pool for 12 of our 14 days. The pool and terraces are small but friendly, some of the sunbeds have seen better days. Waiter service excellent, entertainment programme could do with an update, but there are plenty of other things to do in the evenings, a quiz night across the road at a local bar, live football games and athletics at the stadium across the road from the hotel. A 10 minute stroll down to the Burriana Beach area in the evening with a variety of bars and restaurants. Best of all the beautiful old town of Nerja is a 15 minute walk downhill (a great way of shredding those calories after dining in the Nerja Club restaurant). Lots to do if you can stand the heat of the day July/August 2006 scorching!! Visted a waterpark with our teenagers and also the very picturesque village of Frigliana. Don't miss Nerja's market day on Tuesdays. Local buses are an excellent way of getting around and very reasonably priced. Can't wait to return.
Godd value for money!
This hotel is more suited for the over 40's. The entertainment was a little dated but all the entertainers we saw were pleasant and friendly. Although children were welcomed, there was no other activities apart from the pool. The pool was smallish but the pool area kept very neat and clean. Reception staff were very helpful and efficient, all spoke good english for those who needed it. Some of the bar and restaurant staff were a little quiet but they were always busy. Waiter service in the evening in either the lounge and conservatory or by the pool was excellent. The lounge was very nice, furnishings comfortable and clean if a little old (which did not bother us). The food was excellent e.g. evening meals included sword fish, steak, veal, porsk and chicken. A little more choice for the puddings would have been lovely, but I think I'm getting a little picky now. The room was decent, clean and tidy with a good firm bed. Room was brushed every day and the towels changed daily. The balcony was a little small but we had a pleasant view over the pool area. Nerja town was a 15 minute walk or a 5 euro cab journey. Town was lovely. Burriana beach was a 10 minute downhill walk, coming back uphill was a struggle for some older guests but there again taxis were easily available. Lovely nearby villages and beaches. Considering the price we felt this hotel was great value for money and well placed for visiting the surrounding area.
Give it a miss.
Very disappointing. First of all, the hotel staff were quite good and they did respond well if you made the effort to speak Spanish to them. Now for the hotel. The room and general décor was very tired. Not really what we’re used to. No hairdryers in the hotel, no newspapers (though a good supermarket across the dual carriageway outside). In short my heart sank when I saw the room. The entertainment was utterly awful, unless like us you find this type of thing hilarious. The food was very bad and in my view uneatable though many others seamed to enjoy it! We were eating out every night as even though it was inclusive – still not worth eating! (BTW some outstanding food on the beach and in the village – the sea food is recommended and well worth the local taxi costs) And no – we won’t be going back to the hotel. Nerja is nice (though rather too touristy for me) and we did find a nice local bar just off the area
a basic but nice hotel
Have just returned from staying here for one week. The hotel itself is clean the rooms were basic but clean. The maids came in everyday, the food was enjoyable and there was a cooked breakfast every morning. It is very quiet around the pool each day. The rooms are in need of updating but have english tv in rooms with sky movies. If you want a cheap holiday its worth staying here and nerja is a great place with some great walks
Value for Money accomodation
We visited this hotel for a long weekend at the end of Febuary. A warm friendly face greeted us on our arrival and that seemed to be the norm for our 4 day stay. The staff were friendly and the pool area was pleasant to relax in. As for the room, well like I said in the title, Value for money, for what we paid for our stay, we would have been lucky to get one night in an equivalent hotel in the uk. The food was plentiful at breakfast and you could help yourself over and over again. Strongly recommend the Flamenco show on the Saturday night, and the rest of the weeks entertainment meant you could just stay in your hotel and not worry about drinking and driving. The area of Nerja has so much to offer and I would recommend this hotel and the area to anyone, 3 of our friends have took our advice and took long weekends here and decided that its better than 4 hours driving and over priced hotels in the UK.
Stay away
I visited this hotel for a silver wedding celebration. The room was on the front corner at ground level. All noises from next door and above were clearly heard all night including all bathroom ablutions. Complaints to management managed to get the tv next door turned down at 2.30am so some sleep was possible. Dining room was below ground level and very poor. The whole week was dire and would not recommend to anyone. In future I will self cater in a villa - never to a hotel again.
