Jan 2012, satisfied

We went there several years ago and have been back every year since and
most of the clients are repeat people you have seen before.
the people who complain shoul have gone to a five star hotel
but probably could not afford to do so, we shal be returning this year and i expect we shall have the same friendly welcome and service.
I Mortimer.

My wife and I booked a two-week holiday at the Nerja Club Hotel in July, 2011, with half board. We booked it nearly nine months in advance, discovering what we thought was a bargain not to be missed, however early. Setting out, we were a little worried that there might be a snag.
We had stayed previously in Nerja in 2005 and so knew the geography of the town and were aware that a walk to the super Burriana Beach would be steeply downhill and take 15-20 minutes, but also that the return to the hotel would be best achieved slowly and take about 20-25 minutes. My wife and I are both over 60 but we welcome a walk since on holiday, we are inclined to eat and drink quite a lot, perhaps more than is good for us, so that would be no problem. Neither was it any problem to head for the lively centre of the Balcon de Europa or the bus station, and the return by the top road was gentler. Anyway, of course there are always taxis for those who don’t like walking (6€)!
We understood from other reviews and Thomson that the hotel was to be refurbished over the next months and wondered if we were to be given sub-standard accommodation at the price. Well, any fears that we may have had were soon allayed.
First of all, on arrival at 12.30 am, we were one of two parties to check in and with a cordial welcome, we were soon on our way to room 311 on the third floor. The room was smartly decorated in red and white, had a good bathroom with bath and shower, and was blessed with efficient air-conditioning. Waiting for us in the room was a cold meal with water. In fact, I even managed to get a pint in the bar downstairs at 5 to1 and the service was friendly and welcoming. In the morning, we were delighted to find that our balcony overlooked the attractive swimming pool and patio. In fact, the view beyond was over a delightful residential area of well-designed Spanish homes and luxuriant greenery to the sea, something we had not expected.
Breakfast was served between the generous hours of 8 am and 10.30 am, and supper between 7.30 pm and 10 pm. We were pleased with these flexible mealtimes and more than satisfied with the quality and variety of food provided which was well presented and could not fail to please all needs and tastes. The restaurant, situated downstairs, was air-conditioned and fairly spacious. There was seldom a queue for food.
The bar was smart and the staff pleasant, efficient and patient. We have never experienced such a sensible Happy Hour (between 5.30 and 6.30 pm) where any drinks purchased were subject to a 50% discount whatever they were. We also availed ourselves of some of the quite good entertainment provided though we prefer to spend most of our evenings down at Burriana Beach or in the vicinity of the lively Balcon de Europa town centre where on Friday, 16th July, we enjoyed the fireworks, music and dancing of the town’s Carmen fiesta.
We found the Reception staff very pleasant, polite people who were always obliging and immediately attentive to our needs e.g. our television required re-tuning for English programmes, and my wife was able to borrow a hair dryer free of charge. We found the staff willing to offer advice and information.
Both our room and the hotel in general were always smart and very clean. The cleaning staff work hard from early in the morning. Though a relatively small hotel, we found the Nerja Club elegant and comfortable. We enjoyed the complimentary use of the hotel’s new spa and jacuzzi
At a personal level, we would recommend the three excursions which we found good value for money and we were picked up on each occasion from the Nerja Club Hotel. While we enjoyed the day trip to Córdoba, a personal pilgrimage to visit the famous and amazing Mezquita, it required a lot of travelling. We were impressed by the other two trips, the first by train and coach to the El Chorro Gorge and Lake District, which was beautiful and relaxing; and the second by jeep, the Nature Tour Combi, which included a walk along a river, a swim in a pool, a barbecue meal in a pine forest and an winding ascent to a breathtaking mountain belvedere. Leader and driver was the charismatic Dutchman, Michael. We also made our own outings to the white town of Frigiliana and the Cave of Nerja, both inspiring places.
Finally, both my wife and I wish to thank the Hotel Nerja Club wholeheartedly for the lovely holiday, the cordiality of all staff and the hospitality which we enjoyed while in this establishment. There can be no hotel, in Nerja at least, which is such good value.

  • Advice: Make use of the beautiful beach of Burriana, sample the lively centre of the Balcon de Europa and visit Frigiliana

I like this place ... and I have returned several times, having said that, it certainly is not by any means the nicest hotel I ever stayed in..
let me just make a list of points rather than waffle on
Service, excellent
Food, Rubbish/rotten/ lousy
Rooms, small but comfortable , some have been recently modernised and have top notch bathrooms
BEDS... too small if you are taller than 6ft
Public lounge areas.. very nice
Pool area.. very nice
Definitely not child friendly. dont bring kids here
There is entertainment every night.. a couple of nights it is good but the rest of the week you will have geriatric singers who all repeat the same act as each other ...
New spa facility .. Outstandingly excellent.
I was on B & B basis and the breakfast was pretty poor.
Next time I come ( and I will return ) I will get room only and go into town for breakfast ...
Unless you are a keep fit nut, rent a car.
Ok then, to summarise .. Its a quiet friendly and comfortable place, and it grows on you .. I bet nearly everyone I met last week were returning guests..
Its cheap but the food is pretty poor.. and you cant actually get any food between 3pm and 7.30pm the kitchen closes !!!

  • Advice: Rent a car.. Eat elsewhere..
  • Board Basis:Breakfast Included
  • Tour Operator:Booked Independently

Just returned from our 9th visit. The changes to the hotel are wonderful, its just had a refurb to the bar, rooms and pool area. They have also added a gym and a spa. Thankfully they didn't change the staff they are ALL kind, polite and very helpful. We are returning in Septemeber again and would recommend giving the hotel a visit and enjoy the same care that we get when we stay there

Over the winter this lovely hotel has had a face lift and is even better than it was before.Long been a favourite of mine because of its cleanliness and friendlines it now boasts an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and gym.The rooms are newly furnished and much care has been taken with them. The new poolside furniture is equally well chosen and an excellent place to have a drink or two brought to you by the attentive waiters.Eveyone who works at this hotel wil go out of their way to make your stay one to remember. In the unlikely event of you wanting to get out the sunshine then each room is fitted with a flat screen tv.

Our first visit to this hotel, we found it to be small and peaceful. Everyone very friendly.
Rooms are average size and kept clean. We could not lock the balcony door on arrival but that was corrected during the day. Town and beach are walkable and there is a good bus service.
Swimming pool, small but adequate, the size does not really cater for too many children as they soon take over the pool!
Food, up to standard for a 3 star hotel especially the breakfast. Unfortunately, spain has entered the World of plastic food and we think that some of the mean for dinner was reformed - that was a shame! Terrific salad bar though. All in all had a really good 14 day holiday and would go again.

  • Advice: Nerja is above average location and still quite Spanish
  • Good For: Beach

I have just come back from staying in hotel club nerja, I had booked to stay in another hotel but due to road works it was closed. I read the reviews for this hotel and was not looking forward to staying there at all.. What a wonderful surprise! A really super hotel, with amazing views no matter where you are, the food was good and the staff so helpful, kind and friendly. We were made so welcome and I know everyone who was staying there felt the same way. One man had really awful food allergies and the restaurant staff went to so much trouble to accommodate his needs.Nothing is a problem and everything can be sorted seems to be their motto and they mean it! The manager Miguel seems to be a hands on guy and really cares that you enjoy your experience there. I cannot understand the negative reviews this hotel has received, I would recommend that you go and see for yourself. The only reason I can come up with is that people don't want it to become to popular so they wont share this treasure with rest of the world. I stumbled on it due to a closed road but they have now got an avid fan!

Our stay at the Nerja Club held recently was excellent – a very warm welcome from reception upon arrival and an outstandingly room which was both spotless and very tidy with beautiful views. The restaurant had a wide and varied choice every day and the food was very enjoyable.
The hotel is only about 20 mins stroll from/to the Balcon and we found just over the road a regular public service which was very cheap – just 1 euro each way.

The hotel although basic is very clean & extremely friendly, all the staff are helpful and are more than willing to make your holiday enjoyable.
The rooms are clean and are kept that way daily.
Food is buffet style and all tastes are catered for, with hot & cold meals available for both breakfast & evening.
There is entertainment every evening of a high standard.
Our rep Phillipa was the best we have ever had, nothing was too much trouble, always available to give help & advice, she was cheerful & approachable.
The beach is a 20 minute walk downhill & if you come back through the town you can avoid steep hills whilst passing interesting shops & cafes.
All taxis in Nerja are quite cheap so it is not too expensive to come back from the beach by one.
Overall we were very happy at this hotel, and will definitely be returning.
