Marvelous Marriott, Ill be back!
We stayed at the Cairo Marriott twice in 2004 and again in August 2006. The original building was once a palace for the French Empress Eugenie. The hotel now consists of the original palace, that houses the lobby area, shops, bank, and restaurants like Omars Cafe where the delicious buffet breakfast is served. The two residential towers called Zamalek & Gezira are located one at each end of the original building. In my opinion, the main drawcard for the Marriott is the gardens. There are over six acres of fantastic lush and manicured... more
Wow! Great Experience!
We just returned from a stay at this hotel. I have to say it really exceeded my expectations. I had read other reviews before booking so I had an open mind. I think the reason we had such a great stay is that we insisted on a renovated room in the Zamalek tower. My advice is to request a "superior renovated tower room". Our room was on the 19th floor with a great view of the Nile. The bed was extremely comfy and the bathroom very spacious and clean. The staff was gracious and helpful, wearing buttons that said, "Yes is the answer,... more
Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic what can I say......
Firstly let me say I was a bit nervous when booking this holiday through LASTMINUTE.COM as some reviews can be a little daunting. However we booked this and were very very happy with the outcome. On arrival to the hotel a day late as our flight was cancelled were were greeted with a very warm welcome we were not harrassed by anybody to carry our bags. (this could be as we had a driver Mohammed from the airport, he was our tour guide for the duration of our stay). We asked for a Nile view and were given a room on the 19th floor in... more
Great Marriott Cairo & Omar Khayyam Casino
Marriott Cairo & Omar Khayyam Casino Total Stay 3days and 4 nights Dates: Sept.28th-Oct 2nd Arrival: Upon arrival at the airport my girlfriend and I were greeted by an airport relations guide who referred us to a tour guide in the airport who was pressuring us to take his tour and his taxi to our Hotel the Marriott. We felt like they were really trying to over charge us for the taxi and the tour. We decided not to do the tour and check prices once we got to the Hotel. This was a good idea. We found out that the most you... more
Not the best, Not the worst though
My partner and I stayed here as part of an Insight tour of Egypt in early September for 3 nights total at the start and end of our tour. There are some great things about this hotel but they are really let down by the condition of the rooms... Apparently they are being done up but none of the ones any of our group stayed in had been. The bathrooms are probably the worst thing, tiles cracked and mouldy, toilet yellow with age, funny smell. The carpets are old and need replacing and the walls cracked in many places. I don't know the going... more
Must Read Before You Make Reservation
I stayed at this hotel from Sep. 13 to 23. I was grieviously shocked and infuriated when I saw the room. The room was filthy, shabby, moldy and smelly plus a droning fan. 1. Curtain was awefully dirty; 2. Washing basin has 2 big cracks. 3. Ceiling in the bathroom was cracked. 4. Carpet has many stains 5. Wall paper was peeling off. 6. Very old toilet, the plastic lid has turned yellow. 7. 2 old black buttoms of no use; 8. Black stains around switches. 9. Old-fashioned chair with dirty arm rests ... Without the Marriott Emblem on... more
Beauuuuuuutiful
This has to be the best deal for a 5-star hotel ever! This is a grand hotel that goes beyond what you would expect from a 5-star hotel! Parts of the palace from which this hotel was built add to the glamour and gradieurness, which will no doubt keep you coming back for more. The hotel has enough stores to make a little town; everything from banks to hairdressers to bakeries to restaraunts to nightclubs and bars. I didn't get a chance to visit the casino though. The buffet breakfast is to die for! The outdoors Egyptian Nights restaurant... more
Very nice hotel
Stayed here for three nights. This is a big, busy hotel but it runs pretty well. Reception was often very busy, so leave plenty of time to check out and don't be impatient - remember you are in Egypt! Sadly we didn't get one of the newly redecorated rooms, but by next year they should all be re-done. Our room was a bit scruffy but very clean and the staff were charming and helpful. The courtyard garden was delightful and the pool was clean as were all the public areas. The food is pretty average and the toiletries were a bit... more
No where else..
This is the best casino! A fairytale! I was so happy with the pool, food and price per night's stay. This is a luxury stay that I want to recommend to anyone planning a trip to Egypt. People always say they want to be close to the pyramids, but at Giza the neighborhood is pretty bad. Trust me, you don't want to be that close. A cab will get you there in 20 minutes. The hotel is situated along the Nile, where you can dinner/party on a cruise boat for very little. The famous museum is of walking distance and very safe to get around. You feel... more
The worst 5 star hotel experience
Given the Mariott brand name we had a basic expection of standard. Not only were they were not met, this was possibly the worst hotel experience for an avid traveller like me. We had reservations for a double bed room. We were shown into a twin bed room, with cigarette stubs in the ashtray, a dirty toilet with a commode which had not been recently used with remnants left in it. Upon complaining to the reception we were told we were being checked into an executive floor. In the new room, the carpets were worn, the bathrooms were old, the room... more
