Stunning setting
from YodaTraveller
Lovely hotel in stunning setting. We stayed in a superior room which was a very good size with comfy bed , sofa and outside terrace and stunning views over golf course. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful and we found the food in the restaurant to be very good - the tapas evening in particular. Interestingly on the advice of other reviewers we tried the El Jinete down the road but were very disappointed with the standard of food there and would not recommend it at all. The golf courses were a bit of a challenge - the...

Nice but not a 5*
from M0lly1983
LaCala is a nice hotel. It is not a 5* hotel. It's very clean and kept very wel. I stayed in a standard room and it was perfect. The bedroom & bathroom were a nice size. Big balcony overlooking golf course but also very close to the car park. So people could see you sitting there while they parked their car. It was not very private. I stayed in room 202.. All other rooms should be ok. The location of the hotel is up in the middle of a mountain. It was 50euro in a taxi to Malaga airport and 30euro to Mijas village. I would highly recommend...

Hidden Gem
from Happy5555
We are a 48/43 year old couple with a 10 and a 12 year old. We have been to La Cala four times beacuse we love it. Great selection of golf courses and academy and a fabulous spa. If you want the nightlife its a bit removed and you will need a car or taxi. The children played a lot of tennis and 'lived' in the pool. Great buffet breakfast & the hot weather means we dont eat much until dinner. Its better now than a couple of years ago and we also go to local restaurants. When the children are a bit older we might have to go to a more built-up...

La Cala- good but not that good
from GMFC58
Lovely location in mountains ; steep windy road however from Mijas to get there. Rooms small , as other visitors have indicated , but comfortable. Maid service excellent , room service slow and unreliable. Breakfast has a reasonable choice but lunch menu is limited and is probably not good value -a one course snack for 4 with one drink each can reach 50 Euros. Evening meals are very expensive and you can do much better in the many excellent restaurants in Mijas or further afield in Benalmedena ,Marbella or Puerto Banus - all within 20-30...

Perfect Retreat
from HERSHAMBOY
I stayed here on a Golfing Weekend and it was really superb. It has a stunning setting on the side of a mountain with great views especially from the outdoor pool and jacuzzi area which is a really relaxing place to wind away the day if you are not playing Golf. Lunch by the ppool is a must. The Golf is also great with two lovely courses and a great clubhouse for post game drinks and eats. The hotel bar and restaurant are also highly recommended. The staff are efficient and courteous , if not friendly. The bedrooms...

La Cala - So Near, Yet So Far....from Perfect!
from markmaria1
We have just returned from a week staying in a deluxe room at the La Cala Resort hotel. In general we had a lovely relaxing time but it has to be said that the La Cala hotel and the resort in general lacks many things that would have made our stay better and to be quite honest more in keeping with the expectations of a 5-star venue. On arrival, we were shown to our deluxe room with a large sunny terrace. The room was an excellent size and had wonderful views over the hills to Mijas and beyond but it had to be said was a bit dated in...

Great hotel. great location
from Kendo
We stayed here for a week over Christmas 06. Really enjoyed our stay. Hotel sits highin the hills and is surrounded by 3 challenging golf courses. Rooms are big and comfortable if just a little dated decor wise. Bathrooms large and spacious. Staff are really friendly and attentive (the lobby bar waiter was very attentive bringing hot lemon & honey drinks when we succumbed to a severe cold!) Food in the main restaurant is ok if somewhat limited - we were on B&B and so popped down to Mijas/Puerto Banus some nights (you do need a car here).<br...

Major Disappointment
from MickD
After reading some of the reviews and hearing positive comments from some friends, we decided to give it a try, mainly for the Leadbetter golf school. The place is very rustic and the rooms are pretty small and basic (although we had a superior room). Years ago, when we lived in Greece, the opinion of the major Western European tour operators was to deduct 1 to 2 stars from the local rating, and this was clearly the case here. LA CALA IS AT BEST A 3 STAR HOTEL BY INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS. When we arrived, the weather was unusually...

Great location and facilities though rooms a little cramped
from jeremyge
Was staying at the Westin La Quinta for a week but have been interested in checking out this hotel so went up and had a look. The location is 10 minutes from the coast (just west of Fuengirola) up a slightly winding and steep road into the hills which gives the place a beautiful mountain location and view. As the resort has 3 golf courses we wandered around having a look at them - they looked to be in good condition and very picturesque but also quite tricky for the higher handicappers (a lot of hanging lies) and I would have...

Great Hotel... as ever!
from StuartD
Just returned from what is probably our tenth visit to La Cala! The setting is simply stunning and I can't think of many better hotel views than those from the terraces and balconies at La Cala... right out over the Mijas hills. And the night-time floodlit view of the pool area that's in all the brochures looks even better in reality! Right, for those of you that haven't been before... It's about a 6-8 minute winding drive up into the hills from the turnoff of the N340/A7 at La Cala de Mijas (perhaps a bit less if you adopt...
