Hotel Description:

Just a short journey from the village of Mijas, the Club Puerto Del Sol offers 4* accommodation in beautiful surroundings, ideal for those looking for a relaxing stay. The facade is a modern looking building in Andalusian style and the hotel is located on a hill overlooking the sea, some 4 kilometres from the beach and very close to the perfectly conserved Andalusian village of Mijas. Mijas is the ideal base from which to explore all of Andalucia.

" This hotel is about 10 minutes bus... "

This hotel is about 10 minutes bus ride from Mijas Village in the Andalusia Mountains, about 20minutes taxi ride from Malaga Airport.

It may be one of the nicest hotels I have ever been to, the decoration is beautiful and of very high standard, it is very very clean and the staff there are very friendly.

Staying there with two young children, we through that on first impressions that we had maybe picked a hotel that would not be child friendly but we were wrong the children were allowed just as much freedom as the adults and they were very well catered for.

Baby changing facilities were on each floor of the hotel, highchairs etc and the staff went out of their way to help with any request s we had.

The pools were cleaned morning and night and the surrounding area was kept spotless, we had use of free comfortable sunbeds and shades.

The food was buffet style with a variety of cold and hot meals, at times the meal choices on an evening were very Spanish in the way they were dressed with oils and sauces but still enjoyable.

The village of Mijas is beautiful and well worth a visit (or two), it is much more relaxed than the larger resorts we visited and there are lovely places to eat and nice little gift shops.

Tickled Pink - English ran shop is well worth a visit (just look for the large Betty Boop outside); it sells handmade jewellery and gifts.

Overall we have a lovely holiday and people young or old would really enjoy both the resort and hotel.

" This was the second time I have... "

This was the second time I have stayed at Club Puerto del Sol and I will definitely go back the next time I visit the Costa del Sol.

I originally stayed at this hotel in 2005 with a mixture of both friends and family. We came across the hotel by accident whilst browsing the web for a holiday and because of the very reasonable rates we booked-up with no great expectations. I think this is where some of the criticism for this hotel comes from - people pay more attention to the 4-star rating than they do the price.

The lobby is clean, welcoming and nicely laid out, with piped music creating a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Since my 2005 stay the hotel has undergone some renovations (which I believe are scheduled to be complete in the post-Christmas period in 2006) and though progress is unavoidably slow, the changes are very pleasing indeed.

The new rooms have a laminate floor layout with a modern 'natural' theme running through the bedroom and bathroom. Rooms are equipped with TV, air conditioning and a walk-in shower with a glass blocks divide. The bathroom also has a convenient pull out mirror and hairdryer and is very spacious.

The hotel itself has many facilities including both an indoor and outdoor pool, a gym (which is to be refurbished shortly), a sauna, tennis courts, bar/restaurant, outside terrace and sunbathing area, TV room and more. The outside area is in the process of acquiring a tiered sunbathing area which overlooks a fantastic view of Fuengirola.

People who may be put off by the fairly remote location should not worry, there is a private hotel bus service which takes you into the neighboring areas (less than 10 minutes away) and there is a fantastic bus service that is literally outside the hotel grounds taking guests to either Mijas or Fuengirola for around 1 euro.

During our last stay, we were waiting at the bus stop when the hotel manager drove past and after recognizing us from the hotel actually drove us down to Fuengirola himself. We were completely stunned by this extremely kind gesture and during the trip down were equally taken aback by how friendly and passionate he was about the hotel and its refurbishments. I can appreciate that in some people's eyes the hotel may not but 4-star, but the customer service most definitely is (if not more)!

Breakfast is provided with-in the price and there is enough variety to ensure that everyone is catered for. I have to say that since the previous year the food has improved somewhat and an extra 10 euros enables you to receive full board which is definitely worth the money.

Myself and my partner will be returning to the Costa del Sol in the very near future and although we have tried alternative hotels we will definitely be coming back here.

" Starting with a positive note our... "

Starting with a positive note our accommodation was of a very high standard, the maid service came in everyday, with clean towels.
The food was very bland with small amount to choose from, not always a great deal for the children. many of the staff were not pleasant and sometimes got drink orders mixed up.
The location was not suitable as if you were to walk somewhere there were no footpaths, which was quite dangerous as it was quite of busy road. There was a courtesy bus but only through the day. the good thing was you could get a service bus on the night time.

Facilities:

The pool area was rather nice but there were few sunbeds and umbrellas. to round it up we didn’t have a good week at the club Puerta del sol.
" Booked specifically for a relaxing... "

Booked specifically for a relaxing 4*star holiday in a rural location...most definitely not. not even up to 3* for a Spanish hotel. Can judge having worked in tourism for a number of years and also having lived in Northern Spain.

Room facilities not as described. no hairdryer, no mini bar, no tea & coffee facilities available in room. No shop in the hotel, therefore making it necessary to leave the hotel for basics that were not available at the hotel. With 2 young children it was necessary to drive up to the village every evening for bedtime drinks as no shops between hotel and mijas/fuengorola.

Family room - substandard, no balcony and over main reception, every time the doors opened and closed it disturbed our sleep.

Although food improved during the vacation, the service deteriorated to zero...staff being extremely rude.

Requested to see the Hotel manage on 3 occasions - resulted in a written complaint, but even this was totally ignored by the management and was not even acknowledged.

The hotel appears to cater for coach tour stop over, one night would be acceptable, but nothing more recommended!
