This will be our third time back to this hotel each year returning in Auguest for a two week holiday. The rooms are basic but are kept very clean every couple of days they were cleaned. The ketsios is situated just off the main road and only takes 5 minutes to get to the action and we found all the resterants were fantastic. This year we are going to hire a car to the mountains can't wait. Each time we have visited Cyprus we have gone to the aqua park well worth a day out.

I have to admit that the first time I walked into our apartment I was shocked at just how basic they were. However by the end of our 2 weeks there we just got used to our surroundings. I have to say though that there is a fine line between basic and in need of refurbishment. The bathroom of our apartment definitely needed replacing, it was pretty rough to say the least. We only ate breakfast in the apt, I wouldn't have liked to have done any real cooking in there. With 2 rings as your only means of heat, I think anything other than really basic food would have proved difficult.
As usual with apartments, you can hear every squeak of the chairs in the apartment next door but we were quite lucky I suppose because there were only people on one side as the other remained empty. Having said that though, the dysfunctional daughter of the couple next door made enough noise on her own, which the parents didn't seem object to (sorry, I sound really boring don't I! but I don't see that there is a need to sing at the top of your voice everytime you return at night and slam the door as hard as you can all the time).
I think most people would agree that the apartments are in nice surroundings, and most of the guests took advantage of the orange, lime and banana trees which provided us with lovely fruit (owners were fine with us picking fruit by the way). The location of the Ketsios was great and really close to the centre of town. Because we were there at the end of the season there was loads of room around the pool however, a big group of youngsters did rather spoil a few days with the noise around the pool as well as the noise at night as they all spilled out onto their balconies apparently oblivious to the fact that they could be heard in all the adjoining apartments. They were on holiday I suppose! :-)
As for the resort itself, well, it depends what you look for in a holiday. If you want loads of pubs and restaurants plus a couple of nice beaches then Protaras could well be for you. Avoid November though if you want it to be busy as the difference between our 1st and 2nd week was huge. You will be able to find enough restaurants to eat in but the pubs are pretty thin on the ground as they close at the end of October. As the temperature was still 82 degrees when we left at the end of the 1st week in November, it is surprising that the season isn't extended really.
There is nothing of any historical interest in Protaras, which we knew so it is not a criticism and according to an expat that we were talking to, it is quite expensive because it is purely a tourist resort. It certainly wasn't cheap with a typical bacardi and coke costing £2.50 (cyprus pounds) so over £3 in our money and it was a single measure. She said that places like Paphos are cheaper, but with the euro hitting the Island In Jan 08, it could all change. If you have been to Turkey and know how cheap the day trips are there, you will definitely find the price of trips in Cyprus a lot dearer.
The Cypriots are lovely people though, and I will definitely be back, however I couldn't return to Protaras year after year because for me, there simply isn't enough at hand to keep me entertained for 2 weeks. I would recommend the magic dancing waters show though, its really good.
Just one tip! When you are looking at restaurant menu's just check whether they have any set menu's because they work out MUCH cheaper than purchasing the courses individually and the waiters NEVER pointed them out to us hence, we paid over the odds on a few occasions! Never mind, all part of the experience.
We did enjoy our holiday despite there being a couple of negative points but I think the resort was summed up by a lady that I overheard saying to her husband "this place it ok but I think that I would really struggle if I was here for 2 weeks" unless of course you want to spend 2 weeks either on the beach or by the pool, in that case you'd be fine.

Last year we went on holiday to Cyprus. We stayed at the Ketsios apartments in protaras. The apartments are rated 2 star they are basic but clean, they are set in beautiful gardens filled with banana, lemon and lime trees so there is plenty of privacy if you are situated in the ground floor apartments. It is a family run complex and the staff cannot do enough for you they were more than helpful with us!
The resort Protaras is fantastic ideal for families with plenty to see and do. There is also a stunning beach where you can soak up the sun! Lovely place to visit can recommed to anyone!

A group of 10 of us stayed here and had a lovely holiday! Yes, the Ketsios is fairly basic but it is very clean and in lovely surroundings. It was always nice and quiet with plenty of sun beds, even in August!
We had an apartment on the second floor with a fantastic balcony, which was great for all 10 of us getting together! In fact it would hold about another 30 people, it was that big!
It’s in a great location, just across the road from the brilliant apartments about a 5 min walk into Eden square which is right in the centre of Protaras. Protaras is a lovely resort, great for all ages with loads and loads of lovely restaurants where the food is brill! Promises and the Mexican in Eden square were 2 of our favourites, also the big Chinese restaurant was very good, but a bit pricey!
Husband says the best pint of stella was in Waves Bar at the top end near McDonalds! The beach is nice too with lots of watersports, abseiling etc.
This was our second time to Protaras in two years and I would definitely go again and again and again! Highly recommended!

The Ketsios Apartments are brilliant, the location is perfect only 5 minutes walk into the main strip were all the bars and restaurants are.
This was the second time I've been to Protaras because the night life is excellent, it wasn't too busy but it was busy enough! I would recommend Promises restaurant, the chinese and mexican for good food. Bells Cocktail Bar and Stonehenge are two of the liveliest bars.
The apartments themselves were very clean but basic, could do with a bit of an upgrade in the bathroom. In general it's a good place to stay, small and friendly with a nice spacious pool and also there are lots of sunbeds available even in August!
Thinking of going again next year!!!

Just back from the Ketsios Apartments 2 days ago, where we had a great 2 weeks. Run by a friendly family of Andreious and Georgia and the ever cheery Petrios as night watchman. Situated in fabulous surroundings of banana and lime trees with the heady smell of Jasmine in the air at night.
The rooms are basic but clean and all you really need for a self catering holiday, watch the shower temperature it's a bit of a hit and a miss. Air conditioning which we needed beginning of August cost £30 for 2 weeks, well worth it.
The food at the pool bar is basic but tasty, try Georgias omelettes!!! The pool is great, really clean and there are loads of sun beds. The key for the room slips into a groove on the wall at the door and turns the electricity on, brill idea.
The apartments are on a main road, but really quiet, follow the pavement round at the right of the Hotel Brilliant opposite and you end up in Eden square, where at night you can sit and watch live entertainment Greek style. A must is a meal in the Japanese restaurant, the service and food is unbelievable.
A great holiday, and a return visit to the Ketsios is on the cards for next year, can't wait.

Good size apartments although basic. We stayed in a 1 bed apartment and whilst the bedroom did have air conditioning this was at a cost of £2.50 (Cypriot pounds) per day.
The apartments are situated in a good location - about 5 minutes into the centre of the resort (although they are on a busy road).
The pool is a good size and has lots of beds, which are free. The owner does request that you do not take your own food or drink to the pool and charges high prices!
Only downside for us was that there were lots of large groups of families there when we stayed. This made it very loud near the pool which is not what we were after.
Overall, the apartments are good - clean, good size and good location.

If you want a very relaxed feel to your holiday then the Ketsios apartments are for you. If you are very security conscious then perhaps not. On our first trip out we found the lovely Georgia serving drinks at the bar and asked to put our key in at the desk, she walked us over to the desk and said that whatever time of day or night we just do it ourselves! There always seemed to be a staff member in the lobby or at the desk 24hrs but it still meant guests had access to other guests' keys and passports that had been handed in, ready for collection. There were safes in the lobby but we didn't use them and perhaps we were a little too trusting but the place just had that feel about it!
The room (no 5) was big, light and airy but with only a tiny balcony compared to others. The cooking area was very basic but we weren't there to cook elaborate meals, just to have breakfast and it suited us fine. The main thing was that the whole place was spotlessly clean and was kept clean during the week by very friendly staff. Towels changed twice and sheets once a week.
We didn't use the pool as we went to the beach but it looked good and seemed to have plenty of sunbeds and shades. For us the apartments couldn't have been in a better place, far enough away from the main noise of the town but close enough to stroll to the beach and town without a bus journey.
The supermarket just up the road (go right when leaving the apts) was perfect for us for just the basics, ok you could probably get things cheaper in a bigger shop but this suited us. Plus the white Cyprus wine they were selling was only C£1.95 and really good.
We used the beach opposite the Ghetto Bar (think that's what it was called) in the main holiday street, down a road which had the rather attractive Vrissiana Beach Hotel situated in it. There is a large public carpark just before you get to Stephano's Watersports. The proprietors were an entertainment in themselves, 2 very lively Cypriot guys who loved life, we just had to have a go on the jetskies and Crazy Squab. Just up the beach was a covered cafe/bar and takeaway. The latter did lovely burgers and salads that we ate on the beach for lunch.
We ate in quite a few of the restaurants but the one that stood out was Zucchini's, the menu was Mediterranean cuisine, obviously including Greek food, very well priced good service and lovely food and like one of the other places (St Nicolas tavern I think it was called opposite the huge Chinese place further up the main strip), because we had returned for a second visit we were treated like old friends, really nice feeling. I hope Protaras doesn't get ruined by too many theme bars. We were put off so many of the bars by the huge screens showing the football & rugby and one that seemed to us to be such a strange idea was the 'Friends' theme pub. Every time we walked by, the place was silent because no-one was talking to each other just watching back to back episodes of Friends. Not much of a social evening! But all-in-all a really nice safe town to walk about in at night, pretty much something for everybody.
We will be returning next year hopefully and intend to stay at the Ketsois apartments again.

Loved the Ketsios!! Very basic but clean and good condition, and spacious!! Lovely gardens with banana trees, lemon lime and avocados. Family run by lovely friendly Cypriot family. Great pool always plenty of sun beds-even in august!! Great location- on a main road but apartments are set back.
Walk across the road to path near the brilliant and the path leads to Eden square- a newly built collection of restaurants with water falls and entertainment. - then you are right in the middle of the main strip!! Or turn right and across the strip and down a path to the lovely beach.
All in all a great place to stay !! Will definitely go back!!

We stayed at the Ketsios apartments and loved it so much that are going back this year.
The staff were friendly, it had high standards of hygiene, rooms were cleaned 5 times a week, the pool was nice and clean.
The apartments were located in a lovely orchard full of fruit trees and were very spaced out giving you plenty of privacy and piece and quiet.
Would highly recommend these apartments. We almost had the pool to ourselves, and the balcony on our apartment was massive, as big has my front room.

Returned last night from a week stay at Ketsios Aptmts in Protaras.
We were in a bottom floor room, number 3, had a small terrace with 2 patio chairs and round table, but no view. Rooms were very basic with one bedroom and sofa beds in the lounge, these were not comfy, the apartments are a bit dated.
Cooking facilities included a 2 ring gas hob and toaster, not much crockery and nothing matched, but was clean and that is all that counts really, there was also a fridge which kept things colder than my own at home and a kettle.
Bathroom was clean, toilet was a bit close to the wall, so if you have a big bottom, look out, lol - shower was over the bath and also had sink and mirror
There was one wardrobe and a small chest of drawers, 2 bedside cabinets with one draw each, and floors were all tiled. Cleaners come 5 times a week and sheets are changed once a week.
The pool area was lovely and clean, very quiet so we had the pool to ourselves most of the time. There was a pool table and some tables and chairs that you can sit in the shade and eat or drink from their bar, we never ate there so cannot comment on the food - we went to Porkys in Protaras centre which is about 5 mins walk away, the beach is about 10 mins walk from Ketsios.
Georges supermarket is on the left of ketsios on the opposite side of the road, but there is a supermarket called Orphamedes in Parlimissi which is much cheaper and has a bigger range, buses run there every 30 mins or so from the centre.
Feel free to email me for any tips

Generally we were very pleased with the holiday. It was a last minute booking and we didn’t know where we were staying which did mean we paid much less than the usual advertised price.
The accommodation was well maintained and in a pleasant setting with fruit trees all around and open hills to the back. It is situated slightly above the resort and is 5 to 10 mins walk to the high street and a further 5 mins down to the beach.
We had a first floor double bedroom apartment with a good sized living room and an adequate kitchenette and a cot was provided despite us only booking two days before we got there.
The staff were very friendly and happy to help and the bar menu provided a fair range of drinks and snacks. The Thomas Cook reps were very helpful and on-hand to provide information regularly.
The resort itself was open for the first week but the majority closed down for our second week (first week in November) however, we were able to find a good selection of different bars / restaurants to visit. There are a number of small supermarkets in the resort, but the nearest large supermarket is in Paralimni, which was a short bus ride on one of the regular buses (every 30 mins during high season.) The bus was £1.20 when we went (2004) and travelled backwards and forwards between Paralimni and Aiya Napa. With the latter worth a visit for the nightlife, the beaches and also to wander around the pleasant harbour and monastery.
There are plenty of cash points along the high street in Protaras and numerous places to exchange traveller’s cheques. There are also three pharmacies as well as all the usual car/bike hire places. With the exchange rate at about £1.20 Cyprus to £1 GB things worked out quite expensive and with all prices in 'pounds' it is easy to forget it is in fact an extra 20% when converted back to UK money.
The beaches were good quality and sandy with lifeguards and the beachfront hotels all had good swimming pools, which we used often. The water sports/activities/boat rides were numerous although they all packed up come the end of October and were only there that late due to the unusually good weather.
If you are looking for any local Cyprus culture you will need to stay somewhere else, or at least hire a car, as it is non existent in Protaras itself. We took a car to the capital Nicosia, and had fun exploring the side streets and shops. We also drove back through the hills and found some interesting villages and churches.
The transfer from the airport to the resort was about an hour and a quarter, and the departure lounge at Larnaca airport is quite well serviced with a range of shops and eateries and comfyish chairs.
Overall an easy and relaxing fortnight away (even with a 6 month old baby!)
