Staff and beach great, food awful
from Lucy4193
When we booked out holiday I emailed the hotel and asked for as nice a room as possible and on check in we were told we had been given a lovely room with a view of the sea. Yes we had a fantastic view but the room was awful, all the furniture was tatty and painted a foul blue/grey colour, the bathroom was so small that you could just about sit on the toilet (gentlemen beware, you'd have to stand by the door and aim as there is no room to stand infront of the toilet) and you couldn't move in the shower and the room was just generally horrible and dirty. We went back to reception and complained and were told " we gave you a nice room like you asked for" anyway we were offered a different room but we couldn't be moved until the Saturday morning so we had to stay put for two days. The new room was lovely but we had a view of a tree and we were on the ground fllor so could not have the balcony doors open at night. The beach was lovely and the bar staff came round to offer you food and drink so you didnt have to move, which was fantastic! Breakfast wasn't the greatest, and most days it was cold. Chips for breakfast was a bit odd and no toast! Dinner was not good, the food was so salty and there wasn't much choice and if you are a veggie you'd be stuck. We did however enjoy the starter of salads and feta cheese. The main street with the bars and restaurants was all geared towards us brits which was disapointing. We thought we were in Greece. The bar staff however were all v friendly. The guys that come round selling stuff all day on the beach and in the bars are so annoying, they should be stopped from hasseling you. The hotel itself is lovely (provided you get a nice room) its just the food that lets it down.
Could do better

Stayed there last week, hotel is in need of renovation ( which is happening at the end of this season) Gym needs a major overhaul and exposed wiring on running machine plug was worrying. Pool very deep , not suitable for small kids ............ Avoid rooms in the 100 series all in the basement with a lovely view of a wall.......... Food was buffet style plentyful but samey and had to eat at 6.30 due to a wedding party.
Not for me

My husband and I booked a one week flight/hotel package from Brussels with breakfast and dinner included but we never went once (we were told it was horrible by most of the guests there so I guess we did not miss much). On arrival we were given a small room in the old wing which resembled the dingy hostel rooms I used to stay in during my early 20's. Our room was suppposed to have a sea view but there was none. We had a quick look around at the tiny room and the broken shower and went up to reception and they upgraded us to a beautiful room, at a cost of course but at this stage we did not care. The superior rooms are beautiful with a very large terrace! Having been to Greece numerous times, we were shocked and disappointed on how the town was geared towards the English tourist but we did find a few nice tavernas. Great long haired man at reception at night. and a not so sharp barman call Spiros. Will never go back because to us it was not Greece. I still have not found a better place than Hania in Crete!

The views were spectacular, and the rooms generally clean, and recently decorated with white tiled floors. The staff were generally friendly, though some of the cleaners were a little too enthusiastic: decoratively arranging night dresses, while througing even dirty clothes into the clean suitcases. The water in the bathroom smelt mildly of sulphur, and at one point the water in the hotel ran out; very annoying when trying to have a shower. The sea and pool area were clean, though the pool was largely inappropriate for children; it got very deep very quickly. The restaurant of the hotel, like in the other public areas, were clean, and the panoramic view of the sea there really was beautiful, though the food was all to salty, and while there was a relatively good variety at dinner, though breakfast was unsatisfactory; even toast was unavailable. Overall though, the hotel was wonderful, situated in a beautiful area and clean, only truly let down by the food.
One of the best hotel in Zante

The standard of this hotel was brilliant. I asked for a room with a bit of a beach view, and was left shocked when I saw I was given the superior room with a view of the entire beach! The room size was incredible - two large bedrooms, a large bathroom, clean and tidy kitchen area, a nice and cosy sitting and TV area and a huge balcony which overlooks the entire beach and the pool below. The staff were ever so friendly, the food was gorgeous, the bar areas were always nice and tidy and the pool bar at night was brilliant. The beach parties were a lot of fun as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this holiday and can't wait to go back!

The hotel occupies a great position and has a great sea view from the bar, restaurant and the 'right' room. However, a lot of rooms are labelled as partial sea view which require a neck like a giraffe to view much of the sea! The pool is nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The people who cleaned and the chamber maids work hard and the rooms and public areas are spotless. The hotel bar is a bit sterile. Tsilivi is not a luxury destination like Dubai etc. - but for a non-fussy, relaxing holiday Alexandra Beach is ok and not the worst accommodation there. Not 4 Star by British standards but not too basic - although the bath was tiny and wouldn't suit anyone much over 5ft and the shower is handheld only. The food is a story of it's own. Breakfast is a buffet on open heated trays. There is a large omelette type of thing consisting of egg, sausage and bacon. The rest of the choice is salad, cheese, luke warm hard boiled eggs, cold meat, beans, cereal, juice and one day there were some chips - unfortunately the hot food isn't very hot and there are flies everywhere which is off-putting. No toast apart from french toast and when taking a piece of bread from the basket it disturbs the flies that are in there. Evening meals weren't fantastic. Some of the options didn't really go together and not much of a dessert choice. The pool and beach bars' food is good for snacks or lunch. If only they would improve on the breakfast and evening meals it would be excellent.
Breakfast food

Extremely poor breakfast. Hot choice was hard boiled eggs, uneatable omelette half cold. Orange juice was coloured water. One bread basket only. Our breakfast comprised cereal (choice of 3 only) honey, yoghurt and bread and jam. Would not re-book or recommend this hotel on food alone. Everything else was as described in the brochure.
Great Location

Just back from a week in Alexandra Beach. We found the hotel to be soptless. Great view from our room. Adjustable air conditioning great and a shutter door to block out sun light for those well deserved lie in. Private Beach is great, we spent most days there because of its convenient location(€5 euro for the day), so close to the hotel, beach bar, and and water sports available. It is in an ideal location and from what I could see the best hotel in the area. Food - we ate out most of the time mainly cause my favourite part of the holiday is deciding which restuarant to dine in. Great choice of restaurants in the town, italian, indian, chinese, thai, greek. only down fall is becuase it is located on a hill top it can be quite an adventure to get up it after a few cocktails. Leave the high heels at home ladies. We are booked to go back next year already so what can i say. Zakynthos is truly beautiful and ideal place for couples.
excellent holiday

13-20 June 2004. This was a lovely hotel serving magnificent salads and pizzas at the beach bar and a good varied buffet at both breakfast and evening meals. Breakfast included eggs, ham, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, bread, cake, cereals, a variety of fruit juices plus tea and coffee. Chef was a bit temperamental on Greek night, but otherwise a pleasant chap who flirts with the ladies offering us an extra week free of charge (in his room of course, the cheeky monkey) which was declined. Rooms were lovely with adjustable air-conditioning, fridge, hairdryer, shower and bath although there was nowhere to hook the shower to so it was a case of sitting in the bath holding the shower above my head. All staff were friendly, especially the sleazy deck-chair man, who was considerably over-friendly towards the ladies, despite having a wife and baby.
