" fili apartments,tingkaki, kos "

My partner and I stayed at the Fili apartments, Tingkaki last week with our two nieces age 12 and 14 years. We found the apartment basic for self catering but spotlessly clean and the owner very friendly and helpful but not intrusive to our holiday. The apartments have three pools one small for the toddlers one larger with a slide for the older children and one other which was used by adults. The food and drink was varied and plentiful and available almost 24 hours a day. There is a small supermarket approx 7 mins walk away and a family run taverna at the back of the apartments which is well worth a visit which grows its own fruit and vegetables and has a small play are for the younger members of the family. We booked a day trip to Bodrum, Turkey a day to the other side of the island to Paradise Beach which has all the watersports you can think of and to Zia in the mountains for a greek night with dancing and singing and flowing wine. All these trips can be done cheaper if you book them yourself in nearby Tingkaki which is approx 15 mins up the beautiful beach. Buses run every hour from the top of the road from the apartments and cost 1 euro 80 into Kos Town and 1 euro 40 into Tingkaki. There are also plenty of hire places for cars, scooters and bikes to see the island. We would recomend this holiday for families and couples. Younger couples may find it a bit too far for the night life / clubs etc which are mainly in Kos Town. We would go again.

Advice: slow pace, relaxing and ideal for families

Activities: The wine yard at the rear of the apartments, trip to zia in the mountains beautiful sunsets

Good for: Beach

" Just come back from 14 nights at the... "

Just come back from 14 nights at the Fili apartments. We are a family of 4 (kids 13 and 7) we booked without any trimmings such as transfer from the airport and really didn't know what to expect as we haven't been on package type holidays for a few years. The apartments are clean and fairly spacious, the extra foldaway bed was a bit rickety but did the job. The owner (Paul) was a really nice guy and the staff in general were very nice with a hello and a smile at every encounter. The pool areas offer one that is very family based and one slightly quieter for those wanting to chill. The food was very very good and very reasonably priced as were the drinks, there is also a very good Taverna set in its own Vineyard virtually next door if you go via the dirt track (20 minutes via the road). The walk into town is OK in the day as you can do it virtually all along the lovely beach, in the evening however you are taking your life into your own hands and I would always use the bus or taxi after dark. Overall the whole family really enjoyed a lovely holiday with friendly hosts, sunshine, and good food and drinks. The pool area does get noisy with all the kids in school holiday time but that is why we went and the kids loved it. Also nice to have a few Dutch and German guests to talk to as well. All in all a very well run complex. I do think the older block needs a bit of modernisation but if you ask you can get moved into the more modern A block at the first opportunity - nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended for Families.

" Stayed at Fili Appartments from 26th... "

Stayed at Fili Appartments from 26th June till 11th July. Never saw a cloud which made it so hot, only a handful of days where there was a little breeze to make it comfortable to sit in other than that it was hot with the sea like a lake.
Paul runs a great place, the food is fine, stuffed vine leaves for 3.5 euros are very nice also Mousaka for 5.5 euros or so was very nice and left you full up.
The appartments are fine, I'd reconmend the air con at 5 euros a day just to help you sleep at night. If you get the choice the rooms between A10 to A16 have the best views of the sunset and sea, we stayed in the other block and still had a lovely view.
I would reconmend getting a car if only to do a quick shopping run to Lidl which is about 5 miles away. Things like ice tea, water, basic food for breakfast and snacks and such are so much cheaper there than the supermarkets in town which sell things like 10 slices of processed cheese for 5 euros.
The walk into town is a long one, about 35 minutes but at sunset is nice as it is all along the coast road. Paul hires bikes at the hotel which you can pay 3 euros a day for or 2 euros a day if you have them say for the week. Its completely flat into town so is just 5 mins on a bike. Be careful coming back at night though as most of the bikes lights dont work and your be riding in pitch black for some of the parts, oh take a little torch if you fancy walking at night.
Bus stop is at the end of the road (20m) and in the evening runs from kos town to fili (fili is last stop) then turns round and drives back. it is 1 euro 20 cent to tingaki and 1 euro 80 cents into kos town, in the evening they leave stop for kos town at 6.30pm or 745pm or later but we got these ones and the last back leaves kos town at 11pm and goes through tingaki at 11.15.
For nice resturants try Dana along the sea fron in town by the bus stop. The owner Tony lets you use his sunbeds (the best on beach) for free if you use his place for
breakfast.
One last thing, if you get a car try Camel beach up the other end of the island when its hot as it has the coldest sea on the island, a lovely little cove quite steep to drive down to but very rarely used by people and a little oasis.

" Just returned today 13th June. This... "

Just returned today 13th June. This was our third visit, this time just the 2 of us, decided to leave the kids (grown up adults) at home. Once again, was not let down. Paul, Helena and Bobbie made you feel welcome and treated every guest the same. The banter between the guests was superb, especially when swapping details of there trip of the day. Yes, the location is a bit out of the way, but there is a bus stop at the end of the way which can take you into tingaki and kos town and a very reliable taxi service. The beach is superb with clear water. The weather was superb, just 2 days of being very windy, but not cold, unlike home. Just pure blue sky sunshine for the whole 2 weeks. You do have the opton to either eat on site or go into town and sample the local foods etc. 2 swimming pools and a small childs pool on site. The rooms are very basic but at the end of the day you spend your time by the pool. This is not the place if you are planning a 18 - 30's trip, it is very quiet. Take a trip to Zia, highest village on the island, you will experience one of the best sunsets and views around. If you want peace and quiet with a family atmosphere thrown in, this is the place for you. Next year we are planning to go back around the same time with the min of 6 of us, cannot wait.

" I have just returned home from a week... "

I have just returned home from a week in the Fili Apartments, having stayed her last year I knew what to expect, we were again made to feel really welcome, Paul the owner remembered us from last year

Last year we were travelling as a couple but this time we returned with other members of our family, who were also made to feel really welcome.

The whole complex is kept expremely tidy, the maids work really hard to keep the rooms tidy.

The hotel hires bikes which we used to get around for the week, they are much cheaper than the hire shops in the main resort

I have to say you are a good 20 minutes walk from the main resort but a taxi is only 6.50 E each way and the buses stop right outside.

The location of the hotel makes it extremely relaxing and peaceful.

" I loved tingaki, it was my first... "

I loved tingaki, it was my first holiday with my son abroad. We stayed in the fili apartments, the staff and owner were realy friendly and helpfull, yes the apartments are basic but they are clean and comfortable. The pools are a good size, one for small children, second for splashing and playing (includes small slide) and the third deeper pool for the adults. The meals were realy nice with plently of it, I reccomend the full breakfast and the bbq nights.

I went on one trip bought through the holiday rep to turkey bodrum, i would not recommend this trip, it was alot of fuss and mayhem with a small child, the market was very bizzy and you had alot of attention from sellers, not worth the mayhem for afew bargains! Other travelers booker the three island tour witch they said was brilliant, You can also book trips cheaper from an operater in tingaki centre. Traveling around is easy there are plenty of bike, car, quad and scooter hire shops around, there is a bus stop just a step away from the apartments as is the beach witch you can easily walk to, the shops etc are a bit of a walk but its an enjoyable walk along the view of the beach.
On the whole tingaki is a layed back friendly place to holiday and has something for everyone, am going again in may!

" Wanting time to Relax Tingaki is the... "

Wanting time to Relax Tingaki is the place to be, Ideal for families and couples looking for a peaceful and quite holiday. Tingaki has one main street with a mixture of bars (Mascots is the place to be)
There is a supermarket 200m away and the same distance to the beach
Paul is friendly and makes you feel welcome 100 percent, bobbi was mint.
Rooms are basic but what do you expect for the price of the hoilday. They are cleaned daily. Fili apartments has good food at reasonable prices.
Also our rep Jamie was great and very friendly helping us solve any problems
Overall I would return any day.

" Booked the cheapest late availability... "

Booked the cheapest late availability holiday allocated on arrival. Fully expected to arrange own accomodation and resort, but couldn't have been better pleased with Tingaki and Fili Apartments.

Some great features of Fili Apartments were:
Our son travelling independently was allowed to stay at no extra charge.
Really well sheltered from strong winds around pool and for outdoor eating.
Choice of 2 balconies at each apartment; again useful for shelter.
Regularly cleaned and well serviced.
Basic but good value meals available at all times.
Really authentic Greek country restaurant next door.
Choice of 2 pools and plenty of sunbeds.
Bikes to rent for an unbeatable 35 euros / week.
Quiet location but very accessible to beach, Tingaki and bus service (to Kos).

Only minor criticism:
A bit too much loud British pop music at times; something a bit more relaxing would have been nice!

But overall wouldn't have swapped for any of the more expensive apartments we could have booked.

" The food is the best I have tasted in... "

The food is the best I have tasted in the whole of Greece. The owner Paul is fun and very accommodating.

The rooms are clean. The beach and nearest supermarket is only 200m away. The resort of Tingaki is 2km away. In Tingaki there is many companies which to loads of trips to other islands. I would recommend the trip to the volcanic island called Nissyros.

" I spent 2 weeks at the Fili... "

I spent 2 weeks at the Fili Apartments- I had a great time, Paul (the manager) and Bobbi were very helpful and always up for a laugh

We had a studio room for 3 which had more than enough space for the 2 of us

The pool area and the bar were always clean and the cleaners worked hard to keep the rooms clean.

I cannot complain about the apartments. The view across the bay from our balcony was great.

We ate at the hotel and were pleasantly surprise in the size and quality of the food for the price (it was cheap compared to the restaurants we ate in)

The only thing I would say that is if you plan to cook in the rooms then you will need to hire some form of transport to go to the main supermarket

I would recommend it, in fact we have already booked to go back in May next year.

" We arrived at the Fili Apartments at... "

We arrived at the Fili Apartments at around 3pm this was a cheap second holiday that we went on without our kids and with our best friends. When we got to our room it was dirty and smelly, the walls where covered in squashed mozi's the shower did not work, there was no hot water and the rust covered fridge sounded like a an old tug boat starting up every 2mins.

We had half a toilet roll and no bin liner to put it in. We made a complaint to Paul the owner and was told that if we wanted more loo roll we would have to purchase it, and the room was cleaned to a good standard and when the sun shines it would heat the water.

Later after a drink the owner had nothing good to say about his guests and constantly complained about how much he got from the tour operators and how if he got more money from them he would do some maintenance.

The rooms were not cleaned and the cleaners did the least amount they could get away with. The whole week we was there the pool was never cleaned and by the end of the week I could see an old plaster a glass and an ice cream wrapper on the bottom along with lots of grime and dirt.

Do not go to the fili. I am not one to normally complain but the whole place could be very nice and the location is superb the beach the town and the Island are fantastic, the fili is let down by an owner that is corroded by greed.

" The Fili apartments are lovely and... "

The Fili apartments are lovely and the owner Paul is always nice and up for a laugh. The rooms are very standard for self catering you only have a very few items and will have to pay extra for the air conditioning (5 euro p/d) There is a small mini market a short walk away and you will find a small selection of goods. The beach is again only a small walk away however this part of the beach is only about 5ft wide and for more space and beds you will have to walk about 20ish mins down the road.

The beach is very nice and the water is not to cold either. It took us about 35mins to walk from Fili into Tingaki and that was at an average pace. Here you will find places to eat and drink and a few shops for the women. There is a very big super market at the top end of Tingaki (there Tesco) but make sure you don't have to walk back to Fili it will take up to an hour. You can hire about every mode of transport everywhere. It starts off at a push bike for 2 euros p/d and goes up to a car (Nancy’s car hire small plug) for a brand new car for 40 euros p/d. We hired a moon buggy the first week for a day and this was good fun but found out the next week (when we hired a car) we could have had a brand new full air con car for cheaper (well 5 euros).

We had the car for a day and went round the whole island and saw the best sites and there are lots. Its easy to drive there one main road across Kos in the middle with all other roads leading off it (so easy I even let the misses direct) just watch out for the big holes in the road.

Over all it was a nice holiday (for relaxing) with the 3 pools at the fill and the very cheap food from the bar.

" We stayed at the Fili apartments with... "

We stayed at the Fili apartments with our 2 children aged 9 and 14. They had a brilliant time met lots of nice people, very friendly accommodation. Everyone who worked there were nice and the bar staff very entertaining.

Although the distance to Tingaki is a bit of a drawback the Fili made up for this by being a nice relaxing area where even people on their own or in couples had plenty of space away from the children as there are two decent size pools and an infants pool. All round a very enjoyable holiday indeed hope to return for a week next year.
