After reading such glowing reports, naturally my expectations were high, so imagine my dissappointment. It isn't a bad hotel but it certainly is not exceptional. it is very clean, but as for being very quiet and overtly friendly,i saw no evidence of this at all in fact i was... more

We have stayed at the Mayflower twice now and have booked up again for 2009. This has to be one of the best, if not, the best place to stay in any of the Greek islands. These apartments are outstanding; the resort is fantastic, quiet if you want it and full of life if you... more

We spent 2 lovely weeks at the family run Mayflower Hotel in 2007. The apartments were very comfortable and clean. People come back year after year which is down to the staff being so friendly and welcoming. Even though we went mid-season the pool was never crowded and... more

I have stayed at this hotel for two weeks at a time for the last three years. The family that run it are so genuinely friendly and will do everything possible to ensure that your stay will be tailored to what you are looking for in a holiday.
See you next year "Christal", Steve and Kim.

Great location
Booked a week with Olympic - couldn't find a review so thought I would add one. These apartments are 3 blocks of well maintained apartments set in amongst fruit trees and vegetable plots. They are owned by Dimitri and his family and you will see most of his family working there. It is about a 10 minute walk down to the bay area. There is a very reasonable supermarket next door where you can buy your loo roll -you only get one supplied then you have to buy your own. The rooms are clean and hot water is plentiful. We even had a shower curtain which, if you travel to Greece alot, you will realise is not something you see too often. Our holiday rep holds a quiz night once a week on a Sunday and along with Dimitris great cooking you get a good night out for 8.5 euros. We also booked a car at the time of booking the holiday - not a good idea - we could have got a better car for a much cheaper price at Manolis. There is much to see and do so I would recommend hiring car to see a bit of the island. We recommend; driving up to Kefalos town - the views over Kamari Bay are stunning, driving to Zia, the sunsets are something else (took us 40 mins), explore some of the beaches; Markos, Sunset, Magic (10 mins), Tigaki (30 mins). Worth bearing in mind that there is no taxi rank in the resort. Captain Johns is a great restaurant right on the beach - it is owned by Dimitris family and you get great service and good food. There are bars along the main road (we liked Popeyes) and even more along the harbour wall. Nothing too noisy or major and any loud music goes off at midnight.
As good as it gets!
We have just returned from a two week break at the Mayflower Aparthotel in Tigaki, not our first vist we have been there before and will certainly return. We can sympathize with the previous review regarding late room availability but we found the welcome and service from Christos and his mother Ellia warm, welcoming and faultless. The hotel room which was a spacious one bedroom apartment was spotless and kept so the whole of our stay, without going to 5 star hotels you won't find better accomadation in Kos. My partner who goes for a swim early each morning found the pool clean with no trace of the dead insects from the night before mentioned by the previous review. (one or two maybe but not enough to be of concern) The food from the hotel is good but we found it hard to complain about any of the local restaurants, Saggitarius, Rodini & the Mediterranean being exceptionally good. If you want to walk to the beach area the Scala is also particularly good. The beach in Tigaki is good but I would add that if you hire a car the beaches on the road to Kefalos are exceptional and less crowded. If you do go to Tigaki beach hire your sunbeds from Chrissy's or Heaven - comfort on the beach without being too crowded. You should hire a car in Kos there is so much to see although you can see the island with a whistle stop tour in one day, hiring a bike is also a local favourite. Although Tigaki is one of the quieter resorts the Mayflower is set back from the main road and is perfect for people who like a peaceful get away without being to far away from any local bars and restaurants. We will certainly be returning to the Mayflower next year.
okay but not what we expected
we have just returned from a two week holiday at the mayflower aparthotel in tigaki. we were staying in a spacious two double bedroomed apartment seperate to the main building with a balcony from every door. It was in a beautiful spot, views of the mountains from one balcony and a very well kept garden of fruit trees and roses surrounding the apartment. The apartments are quiet, located on a quiet country lane with no buildings next door. The only night that there was some bar noise was that of the greek night on a thursday which we could hear 'noise' until 2.30am, however the other nights were all peaceful. The communual areas were clean and the main reception area was pleasent. Our initial experience on arrival was not so good. After travelling from 1am with 3 children 13,5,2, we arrived at the aparthotel early afternoon, ourselves and another family of 5 were last to be checked in. We were greeted with 'sorry your rooms are still occupied, the other families have paid to keep the rooms until 7.00pm, you will not be able to get your key until after then. 3 exhausted kids, especially the two year old who desperately needed to rest and we had no room. As a couple we wouldn't have minded so much but all our children were tired and grumpy and didn't want to sit in the foyer or around the pool for several hours, we to had paid for the room and was expecting to use it on arrival. we were offered a drink. On entering our room finally, we presumed that the cleaners had rushed to get us in, fine; perhaps tomorrow the broken glass, food and dust would be swept from under and around the edge of the sofa bed, and the edges of the floor, under the beds and behind the drawers etc would be dust and food free. Not the clean rooms we had read about!! Perhaps if i had mentioned it it would have got done but i shouldn't have needed to and i didn't want to go in to the reception complaining, so we just got on with it. It stayed!!!! As way of an appolgy for the fiasco on arrival, the hotelier offered us a free night at the greek night, we thanked them and accepted. Unfortunately our son didn't cope to well with heat and on and off was poorly with a temp and upset tummy, so we were unable to attend, we appologised and explained this to the lady and the following day we went and bought a fan to help our son sleep. There was no air conditioning unit in the room were the children were sleeping and we felt 10 euros per night would be to much to pay for 2 weeks so this was the next best thing. The following day we were asked why we had a fan in the room, we should hire them from the hotel at 2 euros per night. This was not on the notice board in our room with the other 'rules'. We had explained the night before about our son being unwell. It was made very clear that she was not happy and we were told not to pass the fan on to any other people at the hotel. And finally the pool. We spent most of our first week out and about, the only time we used the pool was on our return late in the afternoon. The pool and surrounding area on these occassions were clean and pleasent, plenty of sun beds to use a nice size baby pool, great. Our last 5 days were a little lazier, we would use the pool first thing in a morning, on 3 mornings i had to spend my time fishing all the dead flies from both pools before my children could and would get in. I would have presumed that before the pool opened to guests each day, that this would have been done!!! I wouldn't use these apartments again, other guests there seem to have been happy, they tended to be elderly or middle aged couples, this is just my honest opinion after staying there with three children. I have visited tigaki on numerous occassions, the only thing i expect or hope for, which isn't hard to achieve, is a clean apartment and not to have to spend half an hour clearing dead flies from a pool.
Mayflower the Best!
My Husband & I have just returned from a weeks break at the Mayflower. It was fantastic! The owners were so friendly & made you feel so welcome. The rooms were spotless aswas the pool & the rest of the hotel. It was nice & quite on a night so you were able to get a good nights sleep. If you are looking for a good restaurant go to Rodinis on the main street. we have eaten there for the last 3 years. It is a family run place with lovely fresh food. (you will come home a few pounds heavier!) You must try the white wine. We can't wait to go back to the Mayflower but for a longer time.
mayflower apartments
Just returned from our holiday at the Mayflower, the rooms were bright , clean and spacious, the staff helpful and friendly and you don't have to race for a sunbed every day. The owners do a weekly Greek Night, with entertainment and home made food. Tingaki town is a ten minute walk away with a large supermarket the same distance, you will get used to the growling guard dogs while passing a 'Villa' at the half way stage! The town itself is a non-descript one street drag of bars and restaurants fronted by smarmy local ' waiters', and forget about shopping here as there is nothing that you would want to buy. Take a trip up to mountain village Zia for the sunset and quality tavernas, or hire transport and visit nearby Marmari for a welcome change of scenery, there is also a go-cart track between the Mayflower and Marmari. The bus service to Kos Town runs on the hour, take an evening trip for some shopping. You will have to look hard for any entertainment in Tingaki, just one bar featured the usual karaoke and Elvis rubbish. But , for a quiet holiday, you can't go wrong at the Mayflower where you are welcome and comfortable. Fraser, Brackley UK.
Stay here!
What a fabulous place to stay.We booked last minute and were not too sure what to expect. Usually, Greek accommodation can be a little lacking, basic and in need of a lick of paint. Not this place. Spotlessly clean (and I'm very fussy about cleanliness!), the rooms were huge and the pool area great. It was a good 20 minute walk to the beach and parts of the resort which I enjoyed as you could walk off that meal of an evening. Think the brouchure only said 10-15 mins - not true. But a lovely walk along very safe-feeling back roads and flat so no hills. The family that ran the place were lovely and couldn't do enough for you and the area was blissfully quite. Ideal for a good night's sleep! Not many rooms so it doesn't get busy but the rooms are very clean with ample room and a change of bed linen and towels every other day or so. Two air conditioning units per appartment, one in the bedroom ad one in the living area, which cost 8euros for both per day. Very reasonable considering how hot it was. The resort of TIGAKI and not TiNgaki as the brochures call it was very nice. The best beach on the island without doubt. Very long and sandy. The locals prefer the North beaches as the water is cooler but in Tigaki, the sea is very warm. There was a good selection of bars and tavernas along quite a long road of about 1/2 but nothing too noisy. Restaurants all serve pretty much the same food, just some nicer, better presented than others. Meni Beach restaurant was lovely but you must go to Zia, a very small but beaytiful mountain village which you can see from the Mayflower appts. It only cost 6 euros to get there on an organised trip but as well to get a taxi (13 euros one way) as you can stay and watch the sun set and have a meal in one of the lovely tavernas. One of the best holidays I've ever had. We hired a beach buggy if 45 euros which was fab fun and allowed us to see the island but to be honest, spent most of the time exploring the hills near Zia as they are so beautiful. Not bad to say I usually go away and sit on a beach for a week and don't move!
best greek holiday yet
we stayed at the mayflower last summer and enjoyed it so much that we are returning this year.everywhere is nice and clean.the family that own and work there are fantastic and the pool area is wonderful.tingaki is only a short walk away, but worth the effort as there are plenty of resterants and tavernas to choose from.the beach is just a little bit further but gets quite crowded,so it was worth the extra 10 minute walk for a quieter part.all in all, our family had a wonderful holiday here.
LOVED IT!
We stayed at the mayflower in may half term.it was the best self catering 3* in greece that we have ever stayed in. the rooms are very nice and spacious they even have a microwave.the staf are...brilliant. they are so friendly and will do anything to help you. 10min walk to the nearest taverna then thet are all together. the beach is a 20 min walk away but it is not that bad to walk to as you can keep stopping to look in the shops. the local supermarket is about ten mins away and has everyting. the tavernas sunrise and sagitarias are lovely and very reasonable. would def go again. lovely place people and appartments.
A Great Place
We have just returned from a fantastic week at The Mayflower Apartments. Despite there being quite a few people transferring to the Mayflower from the Airport, the check in was quick and easy which was really appreciated as we arrived at 11pm and were quite tired. We stayed in room 203 which was on the 2nd floor. It was very spacious and clean. Each room has a balcony off the living area and the added bonus of a balcony off the bedroom as well, with a patio set on each. It was great to open the bedroom patio doors every morning and be greeted with the view of the mountains and the village of Zia. The rooms consist of a living space with settees, dining table and television; a separate bedroom; bathroom (which is basic but clean and functional), a corridor with two large wardrobes with lots of coathangers and a cooking area. The cooking facilities include a microwave, one electric hob ring, toaster, fridge and kettle. Tea towels are provided. There is also a hairdryer in the bedroom drawer which I didn't discover until the last night! Towels are also provided but you cannot use these for the pool area or the beach. If you haven't brought your own beach towel, the Supermarket up the road sells them for €3. There is an Air-conditioning unit in the living room and one in the bedroom which can be hired for €4 per unit per night. Late check out rooms are available until 7pm for €20. The Hotel offers a ranch of drinks and snacks. Snacks are served from 08:00 - 22:00. Drinks from 08:00 - 02:00. An English breakfast is €6. Greek omelette €5. There is also a Greek night every Wednesday. The Mayflower is about a 10/15 minute walk to the main street in Tingaki and 25 minute walk to the beach. Most people seem to get around the resort on bikes. These can be hired in town or there is a hire shop 5 minutes from the Hotel. I would definitely recommend the Mayflower to anyone wishing to stay in Kos. We had booked to go to Rhodes in September but loved this hotel so much, we are trying to transfer our booking to go back.
Holiday
My daughter and I have just returned from Kos where we stayed at the Mayflower Hotel/Apartments in Tingaki. It was so lovely staying there because the family who owned it made us feel so welcomed. We really felt so sad to say "cheerio" to them but hopefully we will return to see them again one day. Staying at this wonderful Hotel we rate it 10 out of 10 because they were such a lovely family. Mary & Joanne, STEVENAGE.
