impeccable!

I have just returned from a fabulous two weeks in Crete with my partner staying at the Astrid appartments. we are both well travelled and have steyed in many different appartments and hotels, but non quite like this, Dimitris and Eva were fantastic hosts and made us feel at home, the accomodation was spotless and the food beyond this world. I myself am a chef so can be very critical about food, i had not one criticism about the food at the appartments. we ate else where a few nights but were dissapointed as the quality was nowhere near as good as what dimitris and eva were serving and the service not as good either. The reviews saying that Dimitris was 'surly', 'unhelpful' and 'blanked you' if you ate elsewhere are a load of old tosh. We became friends with many people in our two weeks and like us they chose to venture out and eat elsewhere and eat out for a couple of nights and had the same experience with food outside as we did. There is a fantastic beach one minute walk away with an underpass so you dont have to cross the road, there you can buy refreshments and there are sunbeds toilets and showers. I would recommend Astrid apartments to EVERYONE, if you want to esxperience real greek hospitality, food and culture. It is also a fantastic place for children. I can honestly say that this was the best holiday of my life, with the nicest, friendliest and most welcoming people.. PLEASE don't take the negative reports as fact - go and find out for yourself and you will come back happy as we did!

Dispite all the comment's that we read before we arrived at the astrid app'ts we had a most relaxing and amazing two week's Ddimitrius, eva and the staff made use feel at home straight away. We also meet an amazing bunch of people who all felt the same. We would highly recomend a long stay there as the food and the entertainment provided was of a high standard {lobster/prawn's n bacon}.. as the saying go's...don't believe what u read. Go see for yourself and have some fun in the sun.........d/l
Understanding the local customs

We went to this lovely part of Crete several years ago and had a superb holiday getting to know Dimitris and Eva very well. We were honoured to be taken on a tour of the region around Stavromenos and shown his beloved Crete personnally. Unable to return as quickly as we would have liked for family reason we are now planning our next visit there for September. Once again we will immerse ourselves in the whole Cretan experience and in particular pay another visit to the nearby memorial to the fighting during WW2 that occured in this area, a short walk from the apartments.
Relaxing Holiday in Crete

My Husband and I had a lovely time in Rethymnon. The Astrid Apartments were very well run and clean. The staff were very helpful and were welcoming. Not sure why some of the reviews were not so complementary we had no problems. The Astrid also has a little bit of land (about 5 minutes from the apartments) that overlooks the beach where you can sunbath, get a drink and use the toilets again there is a really nice guy that runs this area and it’s very clean and well run. This is literally 1 minute from the sea and sand. The location of the apartments is pretty quiet, so I don't think it would suit couples or family’s looking for a busier holiday. But if you are looking for a relaxing holiday this is the place to go. We had one meal in the hotel it was fine; there are a couple of tavernas nearby. But we tended to get a taxi into Rethymnon, there are loads at places to eat, drink (taxi about 8 euros). If you like walking you could walk into the neighbouring towns the first town is about a 45-minute walk and the second town is about 1 hour 30 minutes (stroll). Nice walk and pretty safe, I wouldn't recommend walking back at night as some of the roads get a little dark... a taxi back to the apartment cost 5 euros and there are a couple of taxi ranks clearly signed and the taxi's drivers were most helpful and again there were plenty of places to eat and drink and not expensive at all a two course meal with drinks about 27 euros. The only criticism I had of the holiday was the transfer, it took a long time. The brochure states 1 hour, it took about 2 hours and 45 minutes going and returning back to the airport took about 2 hours. I think the tour operator should look at this.
holiday not for kids
from A TripAdvisor Member
we booked tp stay in the astrid and we were told it was very lively with plenty to do for the children when we arrived it was lovely but it was in the middle of nowhere the children were told to get out of the pool within a hour of being there for no reason. we were 11 miles from everything to get to the so called beach which was full of rocks you had to cross a road. there wasnothing to do with the children unless you can drive. eva and dimitri were pleasant dimitri more if you eat there. the entertainment was good for the kids but the astrid is not good for families it was more for people who want a quiet holiday. we felt as if we were being watched all the time and i felt most uncomfortable it was the worst holiday we had been on . we met some lovely people there and we joined them for drinks but they felt the same way as us. 11may04
tremendous holiday

Just back from a super 14 day holiday. Demitreus & Eva were super hosts (nothing too much trouble). The food in the restaurant was good value and execellant (eat there every day of my holiday). Kostos on the bar was very friendly and the rooms were kept very clean. I went horse riding at Zoraida's in Georgioupi (Cheap transfers from hotel arranged) and would thouroughly recommend it. Look at their site ----------------------. Met some very nice people at hotel andintend to return in September. Ignore any wingers on this site - you will always getr complainers.
Hope to visit again this year

Our stay at the Astrid last May was a most enjoyable holiday. When we arrived we thought that it was going to be an awful holiday, as the place seemed very quiet. Fortunately Dimitri and Eva were very hospitable serving good food and providing entertainment which was not available outside of the hotel. Overall a very enjoyable holiday hosted by friendly people. We hope to return and holiday at the the Astrid this year.

We stayed at the Astrid Apartments for 2 weeks and had a great time, we didnt always eat at the hotel but was always warmly welcomed. the local area is great. the closet beach was a bit stoney but another 5min walk was much better. the food we had in the resturant was excerlant, even when we didnt like one of the greek meals it was swapped for something else. demitri and eva very friendly and always helpfull. the apartemts were cleaned very day and the towls/sheets changed everyday. we had a fantastic holiday and are already planning on going back.
