Great Hotel!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We spent a week at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is a hotel that knows how to treat its guests. A friendly and very visible manager takes the time to talk to you. The reception staff was efficent and helpful. The dining room staff was friendly and did a great job. The rooms were clean and we were lucky enough to get one with a fantastic ocean view. A great feature of the room was a refigerator to use if you did not want to use the hotel's selection of items. The entertainment program was excellent and done with enthusiasm. We found it easy to use the local bus to get from the hotel to the downtown area. All-in-all, a great hotel. Arlene & Ray Best

We arrived back from the Pearl Beach hotel on Saturday after a blissful 2 weeks. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff are extremely warm and welcoming. We were really impressed with the great selection of food at the hotel and the manager was really friendly coming round to see us almost every day to ensure that we were enjoying ourselves. Nothing was too much trouble. The resort itself was lovely. great beaches and only 4 euros for a cab to the old town which was absolutely beautiful. We were amazed at the selection of lovely affordable restaurants and the bars are more London style than Greek. Fabulous shopping too - a really gorgeous pituresque place. Try costello's for some grilled Octopus. I really cant recommend this place enough!

A very good hotel with manager continually present to ensure guests have no problems. Hotel is very well run and staff are very friendly. We found the pool to be very good and the beach is only a minute away. Food is above average and there is a very good choice of buffet. I would definately recommend this hotel and I would definately go back if I went to this part of Crete again. Hotel is situated at the quiet end of the resort which was a big plus for us. The old town was only a 30 minute walk away or 3 euros for a taxi.
Don't expect too much!

My partner and I spent two weeks at the Pearl Beach this July. They say first impressions count and our first impression was of a tired but clean hotel, which it is. The lift sevice to the floors was not really adequate and they were small, just enough space for a couple and their two cases. The pools were ok, but the room for sunbeds was disappointing and inadequate for the Nos if guests. There was the beach area, allocated to the hotel, but at a cost 5 euros a day per couple, not a lot of money, but having to pay because of lack of room around the pool doesn't sit well. The rooms were as first impressions, tired, small, the bathroom was the same and the shower, if it could be descibed as such was past its sell by date. Food wise there was always something to eat, albeit not what you may prefer and can't compare with the Spanish fare. The staff were very polite and helpful, which went part the way tocompensating for the shortfalls of the hotel. The general area was scruffy and quite wild on the roads, the harbour though was quite picturesque and old town quite quaint. Don't come to this resort or hotel expecting the quaint fishing village advertised in the brochure and unless your a bit short of cash book a Thomsons Gold, they are like Ronseal, they do what it says in the brochure.

I travelled with my wife and two children aged 8,9 years. We stayed between July 20th-27th,2004.The hotel was great, and I have no complaints whatsoever about it.The rooms had everything you need they were cleaned daily and towels and bedding changed regulary. The air-conditioning worked fine. The pool although a bit small had plenty of depth(2.7Meters) and because of the hotels proximity to the beach it was never really over-crowded.Sunbeds were in no short supply and the hotel had a ruling that any towel placed on a unused sunbed would be removed after two hours.A good idea but the hotel also had a large number of sun-beds on the beach as well so there was never any shortage. The dining rooms were both light and spacious and offered a good variety of both local and continental fare. The manager made a point of greeting his guests individually every morning and asking if we were enjoying our holiday. There was a varied entertainment programme on and it never went on really late for the benefit of guests whose apartments overlooked the pool complex. All in all it was a great holiday and hopefully some year we will return.A taxi into the town of Rethymnon only costs 3 Euro and locally there was plenty of restaurants and sight seeing to be had.

A great little hotel with attentive, caring staff. (The manager makes a point of ensuring that guests can provide him with feedback on a daily basis without being overbearing.) The food is buffet service, but is well presented and prepared. The hotel is located at the very end of the promenade, so the trip in to town could be a problem for those who are not happy to pay 3 Euro. Overall the hotel provided great value for money - which I guess is a function of its location.
An Average Hotel

I stayed at this hotel for 2-weeks in June 2004 and found it to be very average. The pool is nowhere near big enough for the number of guests so unless your up at the crack of dawn to put your towel out on a sunbed forget it. The room was a real disappointment. The shower was so small you couldn't pull the curtain around and get in there at the same time so you just have to leave the curtain half-open and flood the floor! There was no bath - only the shower. The beds were really hard. I like a firm bed but this was like sleeping on the floor! Here's a good tip:- take a screwdriver with you. You need the magnetic key-fob to insert into a slot on the wall to work the air-conditioning. If you have a screwdriver you can prize open the keyring and seperate the key from the fob. Then you can leave the air-con working so it's nice and cool when you come back to the room. We went bed & breakfast and tried the breakfast once. Usual stuff, rubber eggs that have been hanging around for an hour, very little choice, not even any bacon on the menu on the day we went. Needless to say we ate out the rest of the time. There are some tavernas within walking distance where you can get a decent breakfast. The town of Rethymnon is a 10-minute taxi ride away and is generally a nice touristy type of place. Plenty of bars and restaurants with picture menus. Some nicer restaurants around if you hunt them down. One other thing to consider before you book here. The sea can get rough - and I mean rough (5-ft waves). For 3 or 4 days you could not go swimming - its too dangerous. We saw one woman being dragged out by a lifeguard and taken off in an ambulance. Her own fault because there were red flags warning not to go in the water. All in all a nice resort but a very average hotel.
can not be beat

Pearl Beach Hotel is a Gem

We stayed at the Pearl Beach Hotel in September 2002. It was clean light and airy, sea view rooms are best, the room we had was not sea view, but it was still great. Only downside was if you had a ground floor room, cats would stray in if the patio was left open. The manager made himself known to all and sundry, if you had any problems he would ensure the problem was dealt with quickly. I would stay there again without doubt.

The hotel accommodation itself was average - there was everything you needed and it was very clean, though we felt that it perhaps could have done with a bit updating to make it posher - though I think they were in the process of doing that. The service and food, however,... more
