Adored the Island and hotel

The Lorenzo Hotel in Lassi was recommended to us and after reading the reviews in Holiday Watchdog, we felt confident that it would match our spec. Having returned yesterday after a wonderful two week holiday, we can confirm that it did. The hotel was spotless, as was our room - with the bonus of a balcony with stunning sea views. Breakfasts were basic fare and a bit samey but plenty to go at and the Greek yoghurt was delicious especially with a bit of honey. They have a big fridge on the lower floor for guests to keep drinks in etc, but we only spotted this on our last day, after two weeks of late evening Bacardi and warm cokes on our balcony! We had a list of restaurants, recommended on the Friends of Kefalonia website, but discounted some as they weren't Greek so we can't comment. However, we found a couple more not on the list which were fabulous, namely the Nefeli and the Phaedra. The service and friendliness of the staff was second to none. Do try the local award winning wines such as Robola (white), San Gerassimos (white) and our favourite: Brillante (white or rose). The Kefalonian meat pie is to die for - so my partner said!! I had chicken, fish or veggie dishes and can seriously recommend too. Do take the round the island coach trip - a full day with the wonderful and cuddly Esme, who has lived on the island for 17 years, after going there on holiday. She is so knowledgeable about the history, geology, culture, flora, and fauna and brings the island alive. The trip included the Robola Wine factory (and wine tasting), the San Gerassimos monastery, Melissani Lake, Fiskardo (the only village to escape the 1953 earthquake) and Drogarati Caves. She is also a member of KAT (Kefalonian Animal Trust) - check it out if you're a cat or dog lover. Great swimming and snorkelling at the sandy beach in front of the Hotel Mediterranean. Nice walk into the capital, Argostoli, on the inland road, which takes about 20 minutes. The coast road walk apparently takes about two hours. We booked with Airtours and they were excellent - our rep Kelly was very helpful and visible for much of the holiday. We'd definitely pay a return visit one day.
OK but there are much nicer places to stay in Lassi

Just returned from a week's stay at the Lorenzo. This was our fourth time in Lassi and our first to the Lorenzo. The hotel looked and sounded great in the brochure and we were optimistic after reading the reviews but on arrival we felt quite disappointed. I have been to Greece every year for about 18 years and been to some lovely hotels and apartments and this wasn't a patch on any of them. I had e-mailed the hotel a few weeks before we arrived to request a room on an upper floor and with a sea view. They replied telling me that they would do their best to ensure that this is what we would be given. We arrived at the hotel and mentioned this to the receptionist. She gave us they key to a room on the ground floor next to the very noisy reception area with a garden view and told us that if we had a problem with this we would need to raise it with our rep. We didn't see our Thomas Cook rep ONCE during our stay by the way but that's another issue. Suffice to say we didn't get the best first impression of the hotel and were very let down by the receptionist's attitude. We moved to a room further down the corridor after a couple of days as it was impossible to sleep in the room next to reception and the breakfast area, but we only managed this when the rep for a different travel company offered to help us. The beds are rock hard but this is quite normal in Greece. The rooms were very clean and modern. Pool area was very nice and the pool bar was very good. It was a shame that it didn't stay open past 7pm as it would have been a fantastic place to have had a drink at night and maybe a barbecue, with the lovely views over the sea. Instead the only place to have a drink in the hotel at night was the rather strange indoor cocktail bar that had no atmosphere whatsoever. Who wants to be cooped up inside on a nice warm night? Entertainment nights were piano night, quiz night, etc, the sort of thing on offer at Butlins. As the brochures say, yes the hotel does have stunning views but without a room with a decent view and an ability to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve a sun lounger on one side of the pool, you can't actually see anything worth seeing. Whilst the central location of the hotel made it ideal for getting around Lassi, I believe there is better accommodation elsewhere in Lassi. If you can handle a steep hill, try Liberatos Village.
Enjoyable Stay - Excellent Central Location

My partner and I have just returned from a 1 week stay on the beautiful island of Kefalonia, staying at the Lorenzo Hotel. We were self catering as the hotel also has some self catering apartments in the complex. The self catering apartments are all situated on the top (third) floor of the hotel. The Hotel is very clean and the maid came every single day and was very thorough. The apartments and rooms are basic but very clean. The balconies are a good size. We were lucky as our room (310) was situated at the end of the hall and away from the lifts area, there was also a terrace outside adjoining our room which no-one knew about so it was as if it was our own private terrace! I read a previous review on this Hotel saying it was noisy. The walls ARE very thin so if your room is near a lift area or near the main reception area then it may be quite noisy. The pool area is lovely with a great view of the sea and there are plenty of sunbeds and a poolside bar which serves very nice snacks. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Location wise, the hotel is set back from the main strip of Lassi so it is a VERY short walk home from a night out. The best restaurants on the strip are without a doubt, Sirtaki, Nerfeli and Phadera. The most lively bars are So Simple, Trentis and Da Veronicas. The main beach is a short walk away and there are plenty of hire car offices on the main strip. If you hire a car or do any tours, defiantely go to the Messalini Lake, the Drogertaki Caves and dont miss Myrtos beach, the village of Assos above Myrtos and Fiscardo in the North. Beautiful places. Overall a lovely clean hotel with a nice pool and plenty of sun loungers, excellent location and very nice staff - down side, basic rooms and thin walls. I would definately return here again for a future holiday to Kefalonia.
Perfect base!

Got back from Kefalonia a week ago and thought I had to write a review to let people know how ideal this hotel is. I travelled with my boyfriend and we had no problems with our room or bathroom like some other reviews have mentioned. Our room was spotless, the maids made the bed everyday although I can see why some people have said the rooms were very basic. The one problem we had regarding our room was that there wasn't a fridge, however, on the last day we discovered that there was a fridge on the bottom floor (left at the bottom of stairs which you go down to get to the pool) which everyone can share. I think the hotel is in an ideal location to explore Lassi itself and the rest of the island. I found that Lassi had plenty of resturants and bars for our 1 week stay but i'm not sure if we would've had to start revisting the same ones. We also took a taxi for 5 euros to the capital Argostoli one evening which had a nice square full of resturants and more little shops. The hotel is within easy walking distance to 3 beautiful beaches with sunbeds, one having lots of water sports to offer. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and were always smiley. Entertainment at hotel seemed abit poor, didn't stay there to witness it though and went to local bars instead. Even though the breakfast was continental I found there was more of a choice than i expected with plenty of toast, ham, cheese, eggs, cereal and cakes, definately enough to fill you up. Overall we had a great holiday and found Lassi perfect for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful destination.
Great Hotel - Great Location

We stayed in this Hotel from 26th June to 3rd July and I would not hestiate to stay there again if or when I return to Kefalonia. We had a room on the 2nd floor at the front of the hotel with views of the mountains (the rooms the other side have a lovely sea view). The room was plenty big enough for the two of us with lots of wardrobe and draw space. The bathroom was small but did the job and we had a nice balcony overlooking the mountains. Everything, the room, the bedding, the towels, were spotlessly clean. I'd find it difficult to find fault with anything. The staff are extremely pleasent and very friendly both in the hotel at at the pool bar. The pool was lovely, a very good size and there was always plenty of sunbeds, even with the hotel full. The pool area has a lovely sea view. The hotel is in an excellent location, just a few mintues stroll to the beautiful beaches. There is a supermarket just across the road and lots of great restaurants within walking distance. I'd particularly recommend Sirtaki, Neferli and Monte Nero. Lassi is a lovely resort and from what we saw, the Lorenzo Hotel is by far one of the nicest and certainly one of the best located.
'Terrific Holiday'
from ElmwoodLincolnshire
We have just returned from Hotel Lorenzo and enjoyed it that much, felt I had to review it, especially after reading the review below entitled 'room 101!' Granted, the rooms are basic with a tiny bathroom, but I have been to Zante twice in the last couple of years and they were also like this. I cannot complain about the cleanliness of the hotel either, I thought it was excellent. I do however sympathise with the last reviewer, I probably would not have been happy with a downstairs room next to the reception, but it had nothing to do with booking through Argo Holidays as this is what we did and had a lovely room on the first floor - pic attached. It was an end room with a huge balcony (room 209 if anyone is booking - maybe you could request it?) We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfast was also very good for Greece. You collected a tray with orange juice, tea or coffee and bread (of which you could toast) and then went to a table where you help yourself to other food. It seemed to vary from cheese, ham, fruit cocktail, boiled eggs, cornflakes and cake (MMmm). You could then take your tray and sit anywhere and eat or take it back to your room even and sit on the balcony! All you had to do was take the tray back when you finished. Not much entertainment at the hotel, but again this is typical, but who wants to sit there when you can walk up on the main strip in a couple of minutes and eat in the great restaurants. Our fav was monte nero - turn left on the main street and its on the right at the far end. We hired a car for 4 days and travelled the island. Some of the roads are a bit hairy, especially the one travelling up to Fiscardo, but apart from that it was great. Argostoli is only about a 30 minutes walk up the road, but it is well worth it. Again plenty of restaurants and you can also catch the ferry across to Luxouri (takes about 15 mins) Out of all the resorts we spent time in, I would definately say Lassi is the best with Hotel Lorenzo being in the best location. If you've booked to go, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
room 101!
from hotelmoaner
The hotel has down sides and plus sides. Plus sides: Good location, very close to meditterane hotel beach, and a short walk to the other beaches. Nice pool area with a good view. Friendly staff. Down sides: The rooms. The person who wrote the review before this one said they had the worst room. Oh no, i think it was us! We too were right next to reception, on the ground floor, at the back, and next to the patio where people eat their breakfast. They were near enough sat on our balcony! As a result we were woken up every morning at 730 when breakfast started with peoples conversations. If it wasnt that then it was the reception phone ringing. We had to keep the curtain closed a lot of the time so the room was often dark. The shower was dreadful, leaked all over the place, which left us paddling around in the water. Very damp bathroom. Rooms are very old fashioned, Ive been to many places in greece before and dont mind 'basic chic', but this was just plain old dark and gloomy. We asked to move rooms and went to 236, which was worse, damp and mold patches in the bathroom, a shower head that must have been older the the hotel, and a loo you couldnt sit on properly. We went back to 101. I think maybe if you book this hotel with a different company, (we were with Argo) you might get a nicer room at the front with a sea view, but Argo must be allocated the worst rooms of the hotel. I will now be careful who I book with in future, there is obviously a reason why some companies do the same hotels for different prices. We had a lovely time when we were out though! Restaurants in Lassi are lovely, beaches nice. Book the island tour on the lassi road, everyone does the same island trips so you dont necessarily have to book with reps.
Does the job

There are two sides to this review - the hotel as a whole (excluding the room) and the room. I'll start with the hotel. Great location with sea view. The staff are all lovely and friendly. There is a fantastic great sized pool with a pool bar that serves ice cream and snacks as well as drinks. There was no shortage of loungers, however it was the second week of the season so not sure what it would be like in peak time. The hotel also boasts a table tennis table and has various bookshelves dotted around where you can find something to your taste and leave your old holiday read for future guests. There is a bar by reception which is little used and is manned by the receptionist. This is also where breakfast is served from. Breakfast was somewhat disaapointing. Admittedly, as a vegan, there was hardly anything for me anyway (bought some soya mile from the shop over the road and had cornflakes and fruit) - however even for your typical carnivore or vegetarian breakfast was pretty bog standard. It consisted of a tray of tea of coffee (instant - yuck! More on the instant coffee thing below), orange juice, white crusty bread with butter and jam. There was a buffet table laid out with more bread, sometimes boiled eggs, cheese or ham, some cheap looking cake that my travelling companion said was vile, Greek yoghurt (looking globulous) and some fruit (tinned fruit salad). I guess what you think of this depends on what you are used to. At the back of the hotel there is a Cocktail Bar. The bar maid was lovely, though the dodgy looking 'mates' she had hanging about at the side of the bar keeping her company provided much amusement to me - the best mullet I have ever seen! The music in here was mostly hip-hoppy, not very fitting to the average age of patron - about 67! Cocktails were OK but expensive - I would suggest going to Trenti's Bar a couple of minutes walk away for cheaper cocktails with much more choice and another lovely waitress! General appearance of hotel was very clean but slightly shabby - needs a good refit I would say - cocktail bar is from 80s, breakfast/tv lounge is rather frilly, reception really dark. The room... Right, well - falling apart furniture, random pipes sticking up out of the floor to trip over, spiders in the corner, a flood that wrecked my brand new shoes, a birds next behind the bathroom grill (the dawn chorus was problem), a bathroom bin with a malfunctioning pedal (quite traumatic this bit as you are not supposed to flush loo paper in Kefalonia, you have to put it in the bin, so the last thing you want is having to open the bin by hand) and a scruffy bathroom with a shower head that kept falling off the wall. Another problem with the room - this particular room at least - was that is was right off reception. Reasonable view with glimpses of the sea. The vicinity to reception meant that until about 2am you were privy to a variety of conversations between the receptionist and a selection of boring self obsessed guests waffling on about themselves, sometimes it seemed to be for hours! At one point I nearly stormed out there in my pjamas and punched a bloke whose tales of his much younger wife leaving him for another man were starting to get on my nerves somewhat! On the bright side - you don't spend much time in the room, and I suspect that our room was the worst placed on in the whole hotel so other rooms were probably better. Also suspect that flood was my fault as the water was off for an hour - during which time I was back in the room and I may have left the tap on without realising the water was off at all. Anyway - back to the coffee. It is impossible to find a decent coffee on that island! They are obsessed by instant Nescafe which is my idea of hell. I managed to get a couple of expressos but they didn't understand filter coffee at all. I was surprised by this, I had it in my head that all of Europe like their coffee!! Good places to eat were Nefeli's - lovely staff and fantastic houmous, we went back here 4 times. The Chinese that is almost opposite the hotel gave me an upset tummy, am thinking the rice is to blame there - avoid it! Oh - one of the hotel staff has a lovely dog named Laura that likes to be walked by the guests if that takes your fancy. On the whole, it was not bad - just spiders and pipes and a little too much loud chit chat to spoil it! Everyone everywhere is English as well - there was one American couple and that was it. Mostly older, but am thinking this is because not peak season. As for Lassi itself - few bars and several identikit restaurants. All beaches are a few mins walk down the side roads. I personally prefer a resort with a quayside - Argostoil (30 min walk up the road) has this, was does Fisgardo and Sami as well as many of the other resorts. Island tour and visit to Ithaca highly recommended.
wonderful holiday
from tudornut
I have just returned from a fabulous holiday with my teenage daughter and neice, staying at the Hotel Lorenzo in Lassi. The hotel was clean and well presented with a fabulous pool which never seemed overcrowded or too loud! The beaches were within easy walking distance and offered clear warm waters and good facilities. The resort itself was relaxing and picturesque with the capital Argostoli within easy reach. Would recommend a visit to the open air cinema which was a great holiday experience. Tickets 7 euros with popcorn and drinks very cheap compared to home! There were plenty of good restaurants locally with food and great wines very reasonably priced. Would recommend the island tour if not driving, as well as the glass bottom boat trip which was a superb day out. We didn't see dolphins however despite lots of suggestions from the rep that we probably would. Great holiday overall and would return. Enjoy your trip!
Great accom. fantastic location

This was my first trip to Greece and I was definately impressed. The Lorenzo hotel is in the perfect location in the heart of Lassi and just a few minutes drive from the capital Argostoli. The Lorenzo has fantastic views/sunsets and there are 4 beaches each a few minutes walk. This is a family run hotel and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, accommodation is very clean. The hotel offers a lovely large pool and bar area. I would definately go back. Must do's: You must definately hire a car for a few day's 1. Drive up past Mytos beach, assos and then onto Fiscardo and sit and watch the world go by, were many of the rich and famous go. 2. Lakes and caves trip and then drive to Agia Afimia for lunch, beautiful little village. 3. For a busier day go to the resort of Skala, even if you just soak up the sun on the lovely sandy beach. (This resort is probably better for families).

This is a well organised, friendly hotel. Rooms are quite basic but cleaned daily. Breakfast comprised of a tray with juice, hot drink, bread and preserves. You could then add to this with cheese or ham as well as fruit salad (tinned) and yoghurt. Eggs and fresh fruit... more
