Liked what I had read about this property and discounted the negatives. Location was perfect for me, about 10 mins walk from the harbour and on the edge of downtown Paphos and near a bus route. I arrived very late and was slightly disappointed to be given a room which seemed to overlook a block of flats but when I got up in the morning found a jacaranda tree and cascades of bougainvillea outside my balcony and it was dead quiet, just the cooing of ring necked doves so I stayed put. I suspect rooms overlooking the two pools might be quite noisy as there was music at night. Rooms previously quoted as tired but mine had been refurbished with new flooring, new bathroom with a good shower over the bath and a new aircon. Furniture was awaiting installation but I was quite happy with what was there. The largish room was kept spotless and bedlinen changed every other day. The water cooler in the room was invaluable. Food was too British for my taste but I understand why they do this. One night a week is Cyprus food. Plenty of it and well cooked. Delicious green salads all locally grown always on offer and home made sorbets always available. Fabulous breakfasts with at least 6 different fresh fruits every day eg watermelon, plums, apricots, oranges etc, delicious Greek yoghurt and a pot of honey as well as the usual bacon, egg, toast and coffee. Really no need for lunch after fuelling up in the morning. Two swimming pools and loads of sun loungers on various levels meant nobody had to go without. Best of all was the terrific home from home feel that you only get in a family run hotel. It shows. For a single, older, woman traveller this was so appreciated. The entire staff were delightful. I cannot fault one of them and all seemed genuinely concerned that your needs were met and that you were enjoying yourself. You cannot buy this attitude no doubt installed by the patron, Papa George. I enjoy independent exploration and found the Paphos bus service somewhat limiting but the town is great and the people are so friendly. Went for a walk before bed every night and was perfectly safe, then another early in the morning before breakfast when you can get more of a local feel for the place. Just delightful. If I return to Paphos, I would not consider staying anywhere other than the Nereus. No photos as I stopped travelling with a camera years ago.
Cheap and cheerful

We stayed at the Nereus for 9 nights in June 2008. Booked on a bed and breakfast basis. Good choice of food-fruit,cereal, fried etc. Did not eat in hotel for lunch or dinner as choice of restaurants nearby is tremendous. As for the rooms-they look a little tired and could do with some updating but what do you expect for the price? Air conditioning very effective and believe me, it was needed! 20 litre bottle of water 9 Euros-fits into dispenser supplied in the room. Well worth it, hot or cold water at the push of a button. Our room was at the back on the second floor-away from the noise of the bar and the swimming pools. View from balcony terrible but worth asking for a room on this side for the peace and quiet. Staff in general friendly and helpful-special mention to Lynn on reception who helped us a great deal when a problem arose with our return flight. Would go back again but either earlier in the year or a lot later as temperatures were mid-high thirties every day. Overall,an enjoyable stay in a good location and good value for the money paid.
Top place to stay

We stayed at the Hotel from the 16th April 2008 to the 1st of May 2008.Well what a very pleasent surprise.Having read the reviews from others we did turn up with an open mind on what we were going to find.Need not have worried. From the second we all walked in we were greeted with a smile. There were six in our party with an age range of three to eighty nine.So up to the rooms.Clean, tidy and plenty of room(even with three beds in a twin). No slip mat in the bath or hair dryer so quick call to reception, both in place within five minutes.Down to the bar, clean and tidy and another welcome smile.Dinner time, another big surprise, varied, plentyfull and very tasty. After dinner walk, top location plenty of bars and restaurants or close to the old port for us older generation.Good nights sleep and down for breakfast, what a selection, something for everyone and plenty of it.Out to the pools and sun decks, clean and tidy with plenty of sunbeds. Over all 10/10. (only moan,to much football on the tv in the bar)
fantastic hotel

Just come back from a two week stay at the Nereus hotel with my husband, sister, brother in law and neice. Could not fault the hotel at all, the food was fabulous all home cooked and delicious. All the staff are friendly and helpfull. The rooms are very clean and all the public areas are well tended to. The water cooler in the room is a real help and a must when its very hot. The hotel is ideally situated on the edge of town close enough to walk to the busier streets but well out of all the noise. We would certainly reccommend it to all.

Visited April 2008. Staff are very friendly. Rooms are more comfortable than the basic "Greek" style. With reasonably comfortable chairs to sit on, as opposed to the plastic chairs normally on offer. Booking 1/2 board, we were surprised to find, our room contained a fridge and a cooker.TV in room also (hook up the archos, no problem for that last hour of winding down and sleep). For those dining in, dont expect candlelit dinners in a quite corner where you whisper sweet nothings to your partner. But do expect good honest food. There is a choice of starters, 3 main courses and a sweet trolley to select from. The main courses do consist of a veg option and include greek style food. Must try the tomato soup, it is just so tasty. Breakfast is a varied selection from fruit to cooked and just help yourself. All very clean, and we were happy, as we dont like buffet style meals as we dont like people potentially messing with our food. No problems here. Location of the hotel, is second to none. About 5 minutes walk to the harbour. Bus stop 100yds away for a trip to Pafos centre (known as Market). Prices are reasonable, we worked it out and for a couple to stop a year on bed and breakfast, would cost about £3,000. Due to this fact, a lot of older people use the hotel, but there is a good mixture of ages and everybody just wanted to get on with each other. Prices of drinks in the hotel were reasonable and cheaper than outside. As usual, the Cypriots are very nice people. If you want to find fault, you can find it, but dont expect a rolls royce for a mini clubman price. This place is a little gem. Go and enjoy yourseves.
Never again!

I stayed at the Nereus hotel with another family member for three weeks, half board, from August 2006 into September 2006. The rooms: The rooms were tiny with very little room to manoeuvre. The Bathroom was an absolute disgrace, the tiles were cracked from floor to ceiling, the shower curtain appeared to have something growing on it, and the water pressure in both the shower a basin taps was ridiculous, in a hot climate such as Cyprus, you need to have constant water for basic hygiene!!! We paid $5 for a huge water dispenser, which was great no problems- however, when we were given our room key attached (I mean like super glued) was a plastic tag, this tag was what activated the electric in our room, so you have to insert it into a slot above the light switch in the room and this will activate everything, the air conditioning, the water cooler, the lights and so on- slight problem!!!! We are not allowed to remove the tag and leave it inserted in the room- so when we return from a long hot day out, we come back to a boiling, and I mean boiling hot room and warm water from the dispenser all because we are not allowed to remove the tag!!!!???? The food was horrid; it most cases mousakka for example will be a main course one night and then there would be chunks of freshly made moussaka and salad the next night. The starters were always the same; salad and twice we were there we had soup. The only edible meal we had there was the roast which was held on a Sunday. The food was presented in school-dinner style metal trays, the breakfast was disgusting, sloppy watery scrambled eggs all of it was terrible! Two members of the night time bar staff were exceptionally rude, at which one point i had been short-changed £12, I immediately but politely bought this to the attention of the barman, who responded by saying that I was a 'drunk' and 'Stupid' little girl, although he did not deny I was short changed and returned the money to me. The pools that are featured in the brochure, look nothing like the real thing, they are dirty with floating leaves and loads of screaming children. The 'third pool' which is pictured does not even belong to the hotel; it belongs to the rented apartments at the back of the hotel!!! The lift was not efficient and constantly broke down, when I bought this to the attention of the owner; he simply laughed and walked away!!! The main and probably only positive point was that the majority of staff were great, especially Tunda and Thomas, who were reception and bar workers and Brian the Scottish restaurant manager who was always so friendly and hilariously humorous- but whom now has left the establishment- and I can't say I blame him in the slightest. All that I have mentioned is simply from what I experienced when I was there in 2006, whether the situation has changed I do not know- however, from more recent reviews I would say it is just the same. I am sure that you can find a hotel of the same star rating and location that offers a much better quality overall service and of the same price. The Nereus hotel is like an Apple tree, its apples are the rotten ones at the bottom that are easy to reach, such the internet and you will find a better place!!!!
Great place, we all loved it and had great time
from Travelmad_8
I have no idea what the complaints were about, after reading the reviews I was so worried, yet we just returned from a week over the Easter break, family of four with teenage boys, we had great time, we had the 2 bed flats, more like a cottage with upstairs and downstairs toilets, cleaned daily, anything we asked for was sorted out straight away, so many things to choose from the breakfast, 3 course meal in the evening with plenty of pudding choices, very reasonably priced wine and snacks, the staff friendly, cheerful and helpful, got out of their way to sort out what ever needed without over stepping the mark. Everyone we came across seem to be enjoying themselves, no one had anything to complain about unlike our previous holiday at a 5 star hotel, it's great value for money, very functional, conveinient location, great relaxing atmosphere.
1/2 Marathon

15 persons of the running club stayed here...some were in the hotel rooms and some in the appartments....we all had 1/2 board..the meals were brilliant..the rooms were cleaned every day and if there was a blip it was sorted within 24hrs. For example the shower heads seem to be the pain in the neck ha!The staff were very friendly and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The entertainment was average but then again we all joined in and made it a brilliant week...I think the older persons staying there for 5 weeks had a brill time whilst we invaded the place. A super week was had by all but unfortunatley all good things come to an end.
Nereus was a great base for exploring Paphos
from serafin65
NEREUS HOTEL It was quite cheap we booked in January for July cost per person HB was £500 for 2 weeks. Room was basic, ideal for those requiring a base, but not looking luxurious and spacious apartments, for eg. a few floor tiles were broken, we reported this and they were fixed the next morning. Bed's comfortable, Air conditioning was included, there was also a water machine that could be used to chill or heat water for coffee if you bought a 19L water bottle fot 5CYP. Cleaner came every day. Location - 1km to nearest sandy beach, but a bus trip to Ceoral bay was only 80c and 20 min trip down the coast. Bar Street 5 min walk, but no noise can be heard from the hotel. HALF BOARD food was excellent, varied menu and as much as you wanted to eat. BAR AREA Bar drinks good price, with a happy hour every night between 9 - 10 pm. Staff - all staff were very friendly in particular Tomas and his wife (Junda)probably not spelt right. Also the Chef (who has had some negative comments on other sites, was lovely. CAR HIRE - Recommend hiring car from Nereus Hotel reception - cost for 1 day is 20CYP with only 100CYP excess. Be wary of some of the more well know companies, as they carry excess in the region of 700CYP regardless of whether the accident is your fault. EXCURSIONS/PLACES TO VISIT Troodos jeep safari offered by Thomas Cook (Dakota Safari) Cost was 35CYP each inc Lunch and was brilliant fun. Full Day - boat trip was 16.00CYP with Thomas Cook and very enjoyable, although the trip on the coach to the harbour was no fun, would have preferred to book this trip at the harbour and walked down. Paphos Waterpark - 15CYP - caught bus from harbour (can get refund on bus fare on entry). Excellent day out, you are given a wrist band and you can purchase any food or drinks throughout the day and your wrist band is scanned on the way out, and you pay your bill then - Excellent idea. Enough rides to last the day, take lots of sunscreen though. Tomb of the Kings - caught a bus here for 80c, and entry to the tombs was 1CYP (free on Sunday) and not a good idea to visit during the hotest part of the day, well worth a visit. Adonis Falls - Nice to visit for 1-2hrs - cost is 4.50CYP (need to travel by car or by Quad Bike) Long loose surface mountain track. The falls aren't that big, and it can get quite busy. Aghios Georgios and some of the Sea Caves along the coastline - catch a bus to this small harbour town, pretty church, and the views are breathtaking, you can visit some of the sea caves and there is also a bird park (although we didn't visit this). Sunset Cruise - on Wave Dancer 1 - Booked through the harbour £10.00 each. You go out to sea, watch the sunset whilst a singer entertains you. On return to the harbour you can stay on board, and be entertained (in our case by some acrobatic dancers) and eat a meal. Again food was lovely and well priced ranging from 4CYP to about 12 CYP for a main course - drinks were very reasonable. Good value and a great way to end our last night in Paphos. BEACHES - Coral Beach is sandy, has snack bars and water sports but is full of parasols and sunbeds. Coral Bay is the last stop on the bus and is sandy, there are some rocks in the sea, better for snorkeling along the rocky edges, worth a visit. Venus Beach and the beaches just before - small and sandy Closer to the Tomb of the Kings - these were quieter and more secluded) for those not liking sunbeds and parasols. Walking distance (45 mins to/from Paphos harbour). There was a group of 6 of us ranging from 2 20 yr olds boys who wanted to party, a couple aged 24 and 25 and a couple aged 45 and 42. Paphos offered something for everyone, the only negative thing I would say is that if you are looking for beautiful sandy beaches, then you may be disappointed.
Very friendly hotel
from Cotswoldian
A very friendly hotel The room was in need of a bit of a face lift but was clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in abroad with good comfy pillows too. Not being much of a night owl the one draw back was the tiled corridors which echoed and accentuated every stilletto heel and voice of those coming in in the early hours of the morning. The food was very good and there was plenty of it. We must have put on a fair bit of weight during the week we were there. The hotel is well situated with the main nightlife area near but far enough away to be out of earshot. We paid our CY£5 for the 20lt bottle of water and found the water dispenser very good with nice cool water or very hot - hot enough to make tea with and it heated up really fast too.
