Booked 2 weeks at the begining of September 09, bit apprehensive having read the reviews but found our stay excellent. Staff were very good and always there to answer any queries you had. We had a couple of problems and was quickly sorted out, we stayed in a 1 bedroomed apartment which was excellent although cooking utensils where not adequate and need updating, but rooms cleaned every day and also towels changed daily. Room clean and tidy and never saw any insects in the room.
Would definately go back there again has you are close to all the bars and restaurants this was a warm and friendly hotel and enjoyed our stay. Down side not enough sunbeds unless you get up early to get towels on beds but preferred to go the the beachs instead which are just a walk away. Great to have the 9 litre water cooler in the room and would recommend purchasing one on arrival. Overall would recommend the self catering accomadations but did not see the hotel accomadations so can make no comment.

I have just come back 2 days ago after spending a week in this delighful medium sized hotel in Pathos. It is very very friendly and even more relaxed. There is no need to dress up to go to the dining room at nights. One can even walk into the bar area without having to cover ones self up.
The rooms are clean and more than adequate, as is the outside areas
THe hotel is surrounded by restuarants and bars but like me if you take half board you can swop a dinner meal for one at lunch and this means you can eat out at the varying restaurant types that surround Nereus. It is more than ideally situated for the harbour and the main promenade. I found the 4 and 5 star places are away at the end of the strip and one would need to catch a bus or taxi to go anywhere
I would advise this hotel especially for couples and singles and its even better if you don't like kids as there were none there when I stayed last week.
- Advice: Beautiful safe and quiet little place on the coast

This hotel is old fashioned but great and does exactly what is says on the tin! We were worried about going with our two young boys after the previous reviews but all was well.
The apartment was clean and basic with fresh towells everyday and fresh bedding weekly.
The food was abundant at meal times (all be it basic). Great if you like fish n chips, pie n mash, english breakfast and a sunday roast....never the less it does taste nice.(only 3 greek dishes were served during the 16 days we were there so if you fancy more adventureous food...self catering or b n b might be your option.
Staff were wonderfully helpful and friendly.
The pools were clean but cold!! my 2 sons 7 and 8 swam every day in them.
The drinking water was ok at the hotel if boiled.
In conclusion....it is what it is. it's not stuffy and very child friendly.
It's a great place to use as a base what with it's fantastic central location (better located than most of the 'posh' hotels)
Would recommend to anyone with a young family!

20 mins from the airport,Very friendly staff, very clean rooms.Good choice of food at every meal and plenty of it. Great location for the harbour, shops, bus to the market in the old town, also bus for Coral Bay.The hotel rents cars around 35euro (that includes everything vat, ins) a day but the price drops a great deal for longer rental. There are 2 roof terraces to sunbathe and chill. 2 clean pools one to sit round, one to lay round.Entertainment every night. Can understand why people go back.
Downside are timeshare touts, they try to stop you anywhere on the seafront, they drive up in cars or on mopeds in the most remote areas, they never leave you alone, this was the worst part of the holiday.

75% of guests were rebookings. Rooms fine: clean, well-equipped, all you need and very comfortable. Compact perhaps but well-laid out. People say the hotel is in need of a `makeover' even though it has recently been redecorated throughout. For sure they would say the same of all hotels in eastern Europe; to us, their heavy dark wood and furnishings look dated. Room service perfect; likewise general assistance from Reception etc.; restaurant staff highly efficient and charming. Plainly, there was a lot of goodwill among all staff. A family runs the hotel: highly professional and capable in all respects and manifestly very `hands-on'. Restaurant food really excellent quality every night: well-cooked; choice of starters; wide choice of main courses and choice of about ten desserts. The only hotel in the town booked up. I took opinions and could not find anybody with a word of complaint - quite the reverse. Location very good.
- Advice: much of interest in area

Cockroaches in the room; too many cats and too many cat smells, not only in the outside areas but in corridors as well. Hard towels; very poor food especially evening meals. The "assured welcome" that we would be given (according to the hotel's own write up) in "Papa George" bar just wasn't there at all. In fact the welcome was decidedly cool. Our room was nothing to write home about and although "cleaned" daily it never really felt clean and there was always a layer of dust. Smoking also presented a huge problem to us as non-smokers. It seemed as though the smoke from rooms that people were permitted to smoke in just filtered through into the non-smoking areas. It certainly didn't help to relieve the coughing and sore throats that we and many others in the hotel suffered. Apart from those things, the holiday was OK!!!!!
Must put a word in for the reception staff though - they were excellent.
Definitely not returning to hotel or even Cyprus in the foreseeable future. It has just gotten too expensive and we were constantly on our guard against getting ripped off. Also didn't find the locals that friendly, apart from those who wanted your cash for something. Was told that its much better in the Protaris area but will leave that for others to find out.
- Advice: Don't bother to go there.

This is the worst hotel i've ever stayed in, good location but hotel needs rebuilding. On the rep board we were guarenteed high standards that's a joke. we moved from the tiny prison cells called hotel rooms to a 2 bedded maisonette at the back of the hotel. I had paid for three twin rooms and a single supplement for my daughter. The hotel is filthy, the air con never cleaned or new filters put in so risk using it if you want to contract legionnaires disease. pools were filthy top one had scum all round the edges. I read the reviews before i went and most were complimentary and a couple of negative. everything they state in their review is true, we had little or no water on most days, the food was dreadful, sunday lunch was beef torn off the bone and piled on the plate they can't even carve a joint, the bathrooms were a disgrace shower heads very dirty, another health risk, I felt that they were penny pinching and ripping the british people off for as much as they could. Look out for the exposed pipes coming from the kitchens by the resteraunt pool area, one is coming from the extractor fan or aircon unit in the kitchen, they have a bucket to catch the water emitted from it. Cat food put down for the cats who constantly roam around and use the chairs to sleep on, the thousands of ants to and fro from the cat food. We had ants crawling all over the pullout bed downstairs and cockies which is all the hotel is fit for as it's guests. All I can say is that those people who return year after year is take your blinkers off and look around you, or maybe they have a good immune system, I couldn't even say the staff were nice they were polite but miserable. book at your own risk, I've stayed at better places on 2 star rating.

On the day following arrival at the resort we were made aware that a large part of the nearby area was closed whilst building work took place on the sea front and this would not be reopened till May 08.
We were informed by people who went every year to holiday at this time to Paphos, that as a result of the Major building work taking place, that the government/tourism office or whoever had made payments to local business to cover their losses should they wish to close during this period
This had then resulted in that of the 44 hotels in the area only 12 stayed open plus many bars, shops, cafes etc closed for this period.
The Nereus were we stayed, remained opened but we had never expected any of the building work that was taking place, half the floor we stayed on was being upgraded, which resulted in access around the lift area difficult, at times an obstacle course to get to due to building materials in the vicinity, the constant noise of building work banging etc; the screeching of angle grinder as they cut tiles the smell of paint lingered at all times.
The first room (207) we were allocated, we had to move from due to the patio door not closing tightly allowing the smoke from a nearby barbeque to enter the room.
We moved to room 102 but this was far from perfect, we discovered that below the balcony was a skip and the top of the skip was only a few feet from the floor level of our balcony.
We complained to reception but were told this was the only room available the following day 12-2-08 we mentioned it to the Thomas Cook rep but nothing was done.
If we wanted to go and sit on the balcony we could not, due to the dust that was created when more rubbish was placed in the skip.
On two occasions we were woken at 6-45am by rubbish being placed in the skip.
On Friday the 22rd February we were sun bathing on the terrace, which was approx 50yards from our balcony which we could see from were we were. One of the other guests informed us that they were changing over all mattresses on floor level 1 that day.
Later on looking across to our balcony we saw 2 mattresses being thrown out then another 2 followed then another 2 then two more at this point we became very concerned our room was being used to throw out the old mattresses through.
We hurriedly dashed to our room and discovered the door fully open and some of my wife’s clothing that had been hung on the wardrobe door, was now on the floor and had been walked over, my glasses and a travel clock books were on the floor, these had been knocked from the coffee table. There was no sign of anyone yet my door was open to allow anyone to enter our room this I found totally unacceptable
When I go into a hotel I respect the fixtures and fitting etc, as a paying guest it is only right that they respect our belongings and privacy yet our door was open. We picked up the things and as we were leaving the room workers arrived with more mattresses to throw through the window we refused them access and a row erupted.
We told them we wanted the manager they refused to go and get him, we had to go instead and find him when we found him he stopped it and apologised.
By way of apology he left a bottle of house wine in our room.
Saturday February 23rd
We were woken at 7-15am by the skip wagon and driver who had come to collect the skip outside our balcony it was 25 minutes before he took it away, the Lorries engine was going all the time whilst the driver levelled the top of the skip in order to make it safe to transport. As a result of the engine running all the time it filled our room with fumes, we had no choice but to leave our room.
We reported this to a person who we believe to be the owner of the Nereus who was not a bit concerned but would only say work has to be done and that most of his guests came back year after year.
we will not be going back

I have no idea what the complaints were about, after reading the reviews I was so worried, yet we just returned from a week over the Easter break, family of four with teenage boys, we had great time, we had the 2 bed flats, more like a cottage with upstairs and downstairs toilets, cleaned daily, anything we asked for was sorted out straight away, so many things to choose from the breakfast, 3 course meal in the evening with plenty of pudding choices, very reasonably priced wine and snacks, the staff friendly, cheerful and helpful, got out of their way to sort out what ever needed without over stepping the mark.
Everyone we came across seem to be enjoying themselves, no one had anything to complain about unlike our previous holiday at a 5 star hotel, it's great value for money, very functional, conveinient location, great relaxing atmosphere.

WE have had a really nice time at thr Nereus, we returned because we had been there in 2007, and had enjoyed our holiday. We were a bit dissapointed that we could not access the beach, as the area is being renovated, but we are in the process of booking at the Nereus for september this year, hopefully the beach area will be completed by then. Since our visit last year, the Nereus has had a makeover, new furniture in the lounge area and in the bedrooms. We could not fault the service, food and friendly staff, everyone was helpfull, and the guests we met were all friendly. We also liked the location which is central for all the amenities. Because it is a small family hotel there is no problems with drunken louts!!! We would recommend this hotel.

Apologies if this seems like a long review but I want to try and give as many details as possible to help you with your choices of staying here or not.
We stayed in the Nereus from 26th july – 8th aug 2010 on half board basis. The main hotel block consists of 3 floors. At the ground floor back are self catering apartments and on the 1st & 2nd floor are hotel rooms for those on bed & breakfast, half board, full board and all inclusive. There is one lift to the higher floors.
We were given a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the front of the hotel. First impressions were quite good as it appears that the hotel rooms have had a makeover recently. Ours was fairly freshly painted with new laminate flooring and had 2 brand new firm beds. The furniture also looked almost new and there was plenty of storage space for clothes etc including a built in wardrobe with drawers underneath, as well as 3 separate cupboard units, dressing table with drawer and a table and chair.
In the room there was also a 14” TV which can pick up BBC 1 & ITV 1, hairdryer, Safe (€2.00) per day, air conditioning unit and a hot & cold water dispenser with 2 glasses.
The bathroom is a little on the small side but adequate if only one of you is in there at any time. The large sink unit looked almost new as did the vanity unit underneath which contained even more drawers and cupboards for storage. There is a full liquid soap dispenser next to the sink and another full of shower gel next to the bath. The shower temperature was somewhat temperamental and would switch from hot to cold and back again several times whilst using it. This was a fault other people in other rooms seemed to suffer from as well.
The maid service was superb and standard of cleanliness in the rooms was excellent. Rooms are cleaned daily and sheets changed about every 3 days. Some days the maids would leave a little surprise like a swan made out of clean towels on your bed which was a nice touch.
As stated, we were on half board basis so we had breakfast and evening meals in the hotel. Breakfast is self service and has the usual cereals, bread, fruit cheese, ham, cakes etc or a self service full English. You can eat as much as you like and if you are on room only or self catering it represented good value for money to upgrade to breakfast for only an extra €2.50 per person per day.
Evening meals consisted of a choice of 2 starters brought to your table and 3 main courses which you went to the hot plates and had served to you. This was usually potatoes (different type every day), only one type of vegetable and 2 types of meat and/or a fish dish. The food was of good quality and you could ask for as much or as little as you wanted but was somewhat limited in choice only being 3 types. On one occasion we didn’t fancy any of what was available and ate out but the remaining 13 days we ate in the hotel. There were usually 3 sweets and ice cream if you wanted it afterwards.
Twice a week there would be a ‘buffet’ but this usually consisted of self service various salads and dips followed by 3 courses as above. On Sunday there is a carvery with Roast potatoes, one vegetable and Chicken, Beef and Pork. Again, sweets as above. I got the impression that the choice was limited as the majority in the hotel were either room only, B&B or self catering so they didn’t need to cater for large numbers at dinner.
The hotel has 2 pools, one with sun loungers and the other with tables and chairs around it. There are 2 other sun terraces at 1st and 2nd floor level with plenty of sun loungers. There is a games and internet room, a bar which serves drinks, meals & snacks. There is also a self serve laundrette with washers (€3.00) and tumble dryer (€2.00). Just outside the hotel is a pub owned by the hotel called papa george. At reception they have some free luggage scales so you can weigh your cases before you get to the airport and avoid the overweight charges if you have stocked up on the cheap cigs and booze.
Overall all the hotel staff are very pleasant, friendly and helpful and at least half are actually English ex pats working there including the maintenance men. Nothing is any trouble for them and they deal with any queries quickly and pleasantly. I only had one gripe though.
The hotel has its own cars to rent at very competitive prices. On the Wednesday I booked a car for 3 days to start on the following Friday. On the Friday we turned up to collect it only to be told there was no car available and that they couldn’t even guarantee there would be one available the next day, and that it would be a further 5 days before one was available. We went elsewhere but it was annoying that we had given notice and we hadn’t been told then that it wouldn’t be available when we booked it.
The hot & cold water dispenser in your room requires a 20 litre bottle, These are available for €9.00 from reception and the maintenance man will bring it to your room. However, when it is empty you will have to pay €9.00 again at reception for another full one. A tip however is once it is empty take it to one of the local shops just outside the hotel and they will exchange it for a full one for only €3.00 I couldn’t see how the hotel could justify charging €6.00 more than anywhere else though.
On the whole the area around the hotel is very quiet and you don’t get rowdy crowds up and down the street. We had a room on the front of the hotel and the only slightly down side was across the street. The Devils own creation was at work until 1am for 5 nights a week, the dreaded ‘Karaoke’ in the snack bar directly opposite. Neither the owner or 99% of the customers can sing but if you like watching the X factor auditions then it might be for you. Sunday and Monday he was thankfully closed.
If you need a paper, snacks, drinks, crisps, cigs etc then there is a shop open 24 hours near the hotel. Go out the front of the hotel and turn left it is on the next corner about 50 yds away. There is a very well stocked quite large supermarket on the street that runs parallel with but behind the seafront. Find McDonalds on the seafront walk behind it and turn left and its about 75 yds on the left with A Debenhams directly opposite. This supermarket even sells well known UK brands from Iceland, Waitrose, Hovis etc.
If you don’t want to eat in the hotel then there are plenty of restaurants nearby with very reasonable prices and cheaper here than along the seafront. Some examples are: Full English Breakfast €1.50 a 3 course set menu with choice of starter, main course and sweet from €7.95 to €19.00 Turn left out of the hotel and walk along the street, the restaurants are located on both sides. If McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut are your thing you will find all these located along the seafront.
There is a bus stop 5 minutes away and the buses travel to Paphos Town, through the resort and down to Coral Bay Beach. There is a set fare of only €1.00 and children travel free.
The Nereus is a 3 star hotel so don’t expect 5 star luxury. It’s very clean, tidy and the staff are all superb and friendly and its location is ideal if you want some quiet on a night or want to be within 5 minutes of the bars, seafront, shops, restaurants etc. Would I stay here again? Yes definitely!
