We actually booked a week in Acharavi in the North of the island, but when we arrived at the airport, were told by our rep that it had been overbooked and we had been put in the Amalia in a totally different resort. Clearly we were, and still are, very unhappy. This may be a warning about the people we booked through.
However, the hotel was OK. We paid for air con for the last 3 nights and it was definitely worth it - 5 euros per night. you can’t really keep the door open because the bar is noisy at the back and the road is a busy one at the front. we didn’t use the pool - partly because it became over-run by brits.
We were a little annoyed that the towels were not changed at all in the week, but the bed linen was. They also didn’t change the bin in the toilet for 2 days, which is not a good thing in Greece, where you cant flush anything down the toilets! The food was good and there was a wide selection. Drinks were reasonable. Breakfast wasn’t exactly varied and it was a bit of a cheek for them to charge 4 euros if you wanted a cooked breakfast.
The main beach (near the chandris) is really nice. it isn’t sand but isn’t pebbly either. It was never too busy. The water was beautiful and very calm early in the morning. There are plenty of nice showers to cool off. We didn’t use the beach bar but it looked more expensive than bars up on the road. We spent every evening in the Advantage bar which was good value and friendly (with internet access). Don’t go there if you want busy nightlife on your doorstep, although you can go into Ipsos. We went to relax and we found it very easy to.
I only wish we could have found out what the hotel we actually booked was like.
