Sep 2006, Mrs G Gillett

Just returned home from a fab stay at the Mirador rooms were very clean and well equipped. The view was splendid overlooking amadores beach. Becky the entertainer is fantastic with the children and I’m pleased for her that she is back next year. Well done Becky.
We played bingo by the pool every day and won about 5 times luckily everyone was friendly and found it funny (we hope) taxis and buses very cheap and the market at mogan definitely worth a look. We also went to the aqua park in maspolmas and on the supercat. Both trips through airtours and well worth every penny but go on the number 1 bus to mogan it only costs 1.25euros each would definitely recommend the mirador and will definitely go back 10/10.

We have had the most fantastic...

Sep 2006, Mrs E Burrows

We have had the most fantastic holiday here at the Mirador Del Atlantico - absolutely brilliant in every aspect!
We are fairly seasoned travellers in respect of Gran Canaria - this being my 7th time in the past 5 years, so have experienced from the very rough and basic to the "almost too posh to feel comfortable" and can honestly say without doubt that this holiday has been excellent value for money and provided us with some fantastic memories.
We were dropped of first on transfer (a definite plus!) and were really impressed with the facilities within our apartment, toaster, cooker, microwave, the only thing missing was as mentioned in a previous review was the lack of air conditioning in the apartment. This was quickly resolved however, with the use of two fans that you can hire cheaply from the reception.
There is a well stocked mini market on site, internet facilities, and the Mirador Buffet Breakfast at 6 Euros fro adults and 3 euros for kids is the best breakfast I have ever had on a self catering basis. Plenty of freshly cooked English bacon, eggs, tomatoes, beans, a large array of yogurt, fresh bread, fresh fruits and chocolate spread which goes on the bread rather too well! (well, I was on holiday - I just made sure I walked over to the bar two or three times during the course of the day to burn it off!!!)
The staff were friendly, the facilities clean and well kept - the lifts ALWAYS worked (which was a major problem in a very large hotel we stayed in last year at Amadores) the rooms were scrupulously cleaned each day (apart from Sunday).
I travelled with my husband and my teenage daughter (15) and they both loved it too. The internet facility proved a firm hit with her and I found it really hit home just how much technology has moved on as she was proudly showing her friends back in the UK her lovely suntan via the web cams!. In my day - it was a postcard and nothing else!
The evening entertainment was good and the variety was well thought out - ensuring that there is something for all tastes and ages.
The Zig Zag Safari was excellent which was an excursion we booked through out friendly and helpful rep, Sarah. It took us to the interior of the island and provided a basic but nice lunch with red wine for the adults and came back off road which was the highlight of the journey. By the time we came back we were filthy with dust. It was great hanging on to the seats in sheer horror at the drops only missed by the skilled driving of the drivers that took us out.
We also did the Medieval and Millennium Night which my daughter really enjoyed - I was not too keen as it is EXTREMELY noisy and very, very boozy!
In all - an excellent holiday and next year we will be back, in March my husband and I are planning to coming back for a week to get away from the kids - and in July once my daughter has finished her GCSE exams with a rather larger party in tow to include all the various children/stepchildren/grandchildren! I can’t wait!

Excellent Hotel; friendly, efficient staff; good accommodation; good food and drink.
A special thanks to Becky, the Entertainments Officer, who did a fantastic job of keeping the children (and adults!) occupied throughout the day and evening; this girl is an absolute star and really gave my wife and I the opportunity to relax while the kids enjoyed themselves with the varied range of activities on offer.
In conclusion, I would recommend the Mirador to anyone looking for a good family holiday in Gran Canaria.
Ps thanks also to Geraldine, the skin care adviser for her sound advice and wonderful products.

Aug 2006, Mr N Woodall

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Mirador del Atlantico hotel with my partner and 2 sons. The standard of the apartments were fantastic and spacious with a view of the beach. The staff were very friendly and Becky the Entertainer was great with the children. We visited the Aqua park in Maspolamas and had a great day out, recommended if you have children, though I think the adults enjoyed it just as much.
We met some great families from the Midlands / Newcastle / and Ireland during our stay who all got involved and joined in the entertainment on an evening which helped to make our holiday the best we have had. Normally we like to try a different holiday location each year but have just rebooked up for 2 weeks in July 2007 because we did not want to leave after a week this year. We have been told that some of the families we met this year have also rebooked for July 2007 so we can't wait to go back.
A quick thank you to George / Devon / Steve and families for helping to make it an Enjoyable holiday and Hope to see you next Year.

Playa Amadores is a small, fairly new resort lovely and quiet, but still plenty of restaurants and shops you also have Puerto Rico only a cheap taxi fare away or a 15 minute walk.
Accommodation in the Mirador Del Atlantico- our 2 bedroom apartment was in block b, plenty of room and always kept very clean by the cleaners. Facilities - shop, internet access, playground etc etc. Plenty for children to do night and day.
From 12 to 5 Becki, the entertainer would come to entertain the children. Becki is great with the kids our youngest child Bronagh (7) just loved Becki.
There is mini golf, archery, darts, bowls, water polo and loads more. At night, Becki would come back at 8 o’clock and do dances and games with the children. After, there is a show, some of the shows are excellent so I would advise you to stay for some of the shows. This is a very good holiday resort and I would recommend it to anyone.

Aug 2006, Mr Graham & Julie Gallagher

We have just come back from our 2 week holiday here and both our girls 15 & 8 were disappointed to be going home, they said it was the best holiday they had been on.
The entertainer Bekki called all the children up on stage by name and was very friendly and approachable and was there throughout the day from 12pm - 11.30pm instructing different activities for people of all ages. The entertainment was more than what was stated in the brochure, there was a variety of evening entertainment for the two weeks.
Staff were friendly and helpful especially Jose'(Barcelona) at the bar. The rooms were VERY clean, maids come & changed towels every day.
We met lots of nice people ie. Ann, Hugh & Boys (hope your heads ok), Moira, Graham & Sophie, George & Devon, Paula, Peter & family Hope your all keeping well !
VALUE FOR MONEY!

This was our second year in a row at...

Aug 2006, AAGD

This was our second year in a row at the Mirador and we thoroughly enjoyed it once again. The weather was absolutely scorching the highest being 42 degrees on the digital readout by the pool.
The accommodation was first class, with the apartment being cleaned 6 out of 7 days and clean linen and towels every other day, all the staff were very pleasant, the only thing that the rooms lacked is air conditioning because even at night it is still in the mid to high 20's, you can hire fans at 5 Euros a week but all they do is circulate warm air.
The entertainer Becky did a good job of keeping the kids busy during the day with mini golf, archery, boules and other pool activities. We did use the restaurant in the complex only for breakfast which was a good value buffet of 6 Euros for adults & 3 Euros for children; it had British bacon & sausages.
The star attraction of Amadores is undoubtedly the beautiful beach, most nights after we had eaten it was lovely to kick off your shoes and have a stroll down to the water, if our children finished their meal before my wife and I had they could kick a ball about and you could see them without having to worry or have them nagging about "when are we going", out of all the restaurants we tried down at the beach front the one that stood out above all the rest was Restaurant Zenubia, the food was always first class.
Would certainly recommend Mirador for a nice family holiday.

Having just returned from 2 weeks in...

Aug 2006, Mrs Julie Sempey

Having just returned from 2 weeks in the Mirador - we have just booked again for next year - we enjoyed the holiday so much! The hotel is kept very clean - every day the bar snacks/evening menu on offer/entertainment is advertised so that everyone knows what to expect.
My 2 children - Rory age 11 and Lucy age 9 - thoroughly enjoyed themselves and due to the layout of the complex I felt very comfortable with them going off to e-mail their friends/play pool etc without any undue worry. Becky is fantastic at keeping both adults and children entertained - and we all really missed her on her one day off a week! I know for a fact that 4 other families have rebooked again - which in itself is testament to this hotel/resort.
As for the couple of bad reviews I have read - I can only assume that these people would be better booking Torremolinos during a beer festival!

Just back from two weeks at the...

Aug 2006, Mr J O'Brien

Just back from two weeks at the Mirador, first time to canaries and it was the best holiday we have been on.
Hotel rooms spotless and spacious. Rooms cleaned and towels changed everyday but Sunday. Whole complex looked after to a very high standard. Only drawback the food at the theme nights could be better. Also on day of departure you cannot keep your room on, you have to be out for 12 noon even though we were not getting picked up until 1.30am the following morning all we were offered was a small shower room and we could only have this for a family of 5 for 1/2 an hour which has to be booked.
By the time we were due to use the shower the door was broken off. Luckily another person in the hotel told us to get the key to the sauna which is fantastic, you can go in lock the door behind you and you have use of 2 showers and fresh towels in a good size room although the reception staff are reluctant to give you the key. About a five minute walk from the hotel is the beautiful Amadores beach which is breathtaking with fantastic restaurants and a few mini markets.
Ciao Ciao restaurant, fantastic food and service. Flippers brill for your fry in the mornings Belice restaurant food great but waiters have dodgy secret code going on working the crowd. If you want a change get a taxi outside the hotel for a few euro and go into Puerto Rico commercial centre, here you have everything from restaurants to gift shops to looky looky men, its great. For the kids the Aqualand in Maspalomas is fantastic but expensive, 22euro per adult and 16euro per child but if you get a happy meal in McDonalds in Puerto Rico you get a voucher and the kids get into Aqualand for free. Overall our holiday was fantastic from start to finish.
Good points: First off the coach from the airport
Two happy hours at the hotel pool bar
Cheap and plentiful taxis
Boat trips from Puerto Rico
Cliff walk from Amadores to Puerto Rico
Reasonable shop prices
Bad points: Had to come home

Aug 2006, Miss S Mallon

We had two weeks at the Mirador and I have to say it was the best two weeks I've had on a holiday in a long time. The apartments were immaculate and cleaned 6 out 7 days with fresh towels provided.
We had a lovely view of Amadores beach from our apartment. The complex itself was lively during the day but quiet enough at night so that we had a good nights sleep. They had a great children's entertainer Becky who kept the kids and the adults entertained throughout the day and evening. The evening entertainment although repeated over the two weeks we were there was good. If you wanted something a bit livelier you could jump in a taxi for a 2 minute ride to Puerto Rico to the Commercial Centre where you had your pick of bars and restaurants.
Have to say that we had some great nights in Dicey Reilly's Irish bar there. Just one thing about the Mirador, you need to be up quite early to get a sun bed or you take what’s left, which was usually nothing! I would definitely recommend the Mirador and hope to make a return journey at some stage in the future.

Aug 2006, Mrs S Lewin

This was a late booking and it was with a great surprise how good a holiday it was! The hotel was right in front of a lovely beach, which is man made but you couldn’t tell, the resort is quiet but lovely and just a cheap taxi ride from Puerto Rico.
The hotel is fab, for a three star it was excellent and the entertainment was variable, but mostly great. The rooms were modern and well equipped (once you found them!) as the hotel is spread in blocks across a wide area.
This didn’t cause any problems as there were plenty of lifts and signs. I would gladly go back to Amadores as it is a nice, gem of a resort, even with the few building works going on. The boat trips are a must, Puerto de Mogan is beautiful, but don’t bother with Arguinigan. All together, ideal for families and older couples wanting to chill. Excellent!

RESORT - Playa Amadores is a small,...

Jul 2006, raymondj40

RESORT -
Playa Amadores is a small, fairly new resort based around a man made beach, and has only been on the go for the last 4-5 years. The beach is a wide crescent shape with lovely white sand leading to deep blue water and is sheltered by walls from the open sea. The shallow shelving bay itself is cordoned off in such a way that it gives the bathers the freedom of the majority of the bay but preventing watercraft such as pedalos, jet bikes, etc from getting into this area. There appears to be ample sun beds, brollies etc (although the weekends when the locals appear is a lot busier).
There are some 60 various restaurants, snack bars, shops; etc overlooking the beach and all are open throughout the day. At night it is quieter with a lot of the smaller businesses closing, but still plenty of restaurants, etc to choose from. There is some building work going on in the resort but we never really heard it nor did I hear anyone mention it either. It is a nice quiet, relaxing resort with enough to do in and around the area, but if you do want something a bit more lively, you are only a short cheap taxi ride away from Puerto Rico, and there is a walkway which takes you along the coast area between Amadores and Puerto Rico harbour area ideal if you have eaten in the harbour area and want to walk it off since it is only 1km
ACCOMMODATION -
Mirador del Atlantico - our 2 bedroom apt was in Block B which is probably one of the best blocks in terms of the fantastic view over the beach and bay, as well as being away from the noise of the pool and entertainment if you have young kids who need a sleep through the day. We were lucky to get a terraced apt, which had a bit more floor space on the balcony area by comparison to the apts above us, but all the apts appeared to be roomy enough and well maintained in terms of appearance, repairs, wear and tear, etc, and any reported problems were dealt with quickly by their own maintenance men. They have all the mod cons - kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, 2 ring hob, safety deposit box, pay to view TV, shower (no bath, note). Most of the apts have a sea view, but not all of them. The only possible downside to the accommodation is that Block B also overlooks the main road between Puerto Rico, Amadores, Playa del Cura, Puerto Mogan, and while you were aware of some traffic noise during the day when on the balcony terrace during the day, at night there was very little.
FACILITIES - there is a small but well stocked mini market on site with lots of recognisable brand names if you want to do the whole self catering thing and cook/eat in the apartments. There is a small arcade area for kids/teenagers, internet access (pay as you go) which was popular with teenagers. There is a large free form pool, a smaller toddler pool and an outdoor jacuzzi. There is a playground area with rubber surface at ground level and is well maintained, there is also a play area specifically for under 3's as well, again rubber flooring and well maintained, there is also mini golf, numerous pool tables, a table tennis table, a basic gym (it's okay and you can get a reasonable workout in there), a sauna, laundry facility. There are ample sun beds and parasols, but we seem to have adopted the German trait of reserving sun beds early in the morning, so you either get up and do the same or make do with whatever is left...... The pool and surrounding sun terraces are cleaned and scrubbed every morning by Paco and his amazing machine (just don't try to lay out any sun beds before he's finished!!!!)
Restaurant has a different theme every day and special offers as well. The food is of a good standard and we sampled it a few times and can vouch for that (especially since my wife used to be catering manageress and is particular with food hygiene)
ENTERTAINMENT -
This for me is the thing which really makes the Mirador a very popular location since there seemed to be a lot of people who have been coming back time after time, and no wonder. Having seen one or two negative comments on this site regarding nothing to do for kids, I had to wonder if they were at the same location, since I don't think I have ever been anywhere where the entertainment catered for everyone virtually all day - unless these parents maybe expected the entertainers to baby-sit their kids for them the whole day...........
Becky who has taken over the entertainment programme from Gary in the last few months does an amazing job from 12 noon onwards, providing a variety of games, activities and fun. Our 2 girls (5 & 7) thoroughly enjoyed all the activities, and they are geared up so that people of any age or ability can take part, ranging from mini golf, killer pool, archery, French bowls, skittles, etc. She also does aqua aerobics, water polo, bingo, quizzes, etc. All of this was on a voluntary basis and she did not pester or badger people into taking into taking part which I have experienced in some places in the past.
In the evenings there is a daily mini disco which has the children and their parents getting involved, and a variety of other games, etc before and after the nightly shows, which were of a good standard as well. I had to admire her patience and enthusiasm with some of the kids who had a bit too much attitude and were quite vocal, but she managed this very well, and made sure that everyone was involved and having a great time with lots of games, prizes and action dances. The entertainment wound up at around 11.30, although the bar stayed open for an hour or so longer which meant that anyone wanting a decent nights sleep would be able to do so, and those who wanted to party on would go off to the bars and clubs in Puerto Rico via a short taxi ride.
Overall, this is a quiet resort with a fantastic beach where you can relax and chill out, but with plenty to entertain you if you want that as well, and you are close enough to the action in Puerto Rico if you want some all night partying as well.
