Aug 2007, Mr K Marchant

The accommodation: The hotel was very clean; cleaned 6 0ut of 7 days a week. Although did see 1cockroach. Put a towel behind the door at the bottom to prevent them coming in.
When we first arrived the directions to the room were a bit complicated but fine when you got used to it.
The sun care advisor at the hotel was good she was called Helen but a bit expensive. Don’t take factors over 25 as you just get burnt. The hotel reps beki and Leanne were good.
Jeanine the resort rep at our hotel was also great. Especially on the trip to the rep night on a Thursday along with Amanda. The service behind the pool bar was awful really slow, and the entertainment in the night was a bit boring, the restaurant waiters were fantastic but the food itself is ok so go sc or bb.
The hotel itself was really nice and clean and had great sea views. Entertainment in the night was very poor with the Robbie Williams and the hypnotist but when the reps took over it was much better.
The resort: beach was fantastic a couple of bars and restaurants but not much choice go to the London pride if you are a footie fan as it has all the games or if you want a great English breakfast or tea. You can get a taxi to Puerto Rico for 3 Euros if you want a livelier night, go to the star bar as it is fantastic.
Free popcorn and great movie bar with cocktails for like 5 Euros! Best bar ever which is in the commercial centre upstairs in Puerto Rico the (commercial centre by McDonalds.)
Also go to Pinocchio’s for a great meal. Get your presents in Puerto Rico as you can’t get any good ones in playa amadores.
Oh by the way the shower room is terrible like the size of a toilet cubicle if there isn’t any rooms left and you have to stay on after 12 so really try and get a room afterwards.

We booked the Mirador after being...

We booked the Mirador after being unable to get the Apartments we wanted in Porto Rico. And I have to say I have never been more delighted not to get what I wanted. I don't really know where to start with the praise!
The Apartments were very well equipped, the cleanliness was top notch, the staff were all very friendly & helpful. The food in the restaurant was not only very cheap but there was a fantastic variety to suit all palates, with different themes every night, even the children went back up for more!!! (Buffet style).
Becky & Leanne were, well can't really say anything that hasn't been said before, they were just the biz especially were the children were concerned, great things to do for everyone all day, both are great motivators and got nearly everyone involved in the games.
The Beach area was also a great place for a bite to eat and let the children play on the sand while we were finishing our meals (with a couple of beverages!??!) the lads in the restaurant were very accommodating in letting us have a large table right on the beach side so we could keep an eye on the little ones.
The Buses stopped right outside the hotel to get to Mogan & Arguinaguin and just 2 mins for the buses to Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas - where we went to Holiday World - a great outdoor fun fair, which everyone enjoyed - the Chinese restaurant there was great value - just don't order too many rice/noodles as you get way too much!
€20 gets you 60 points which you spend on the rides and can get more if you need to, but considering €10 gets you something like 20 points - its better value, most rides are about 3 points each, be careful though with little one as there are height restrictions on some of the more popular rides!!!
Arguinaguin market (Tuesday mornings) is much bigger and better than the one in Mogan - we were told this by a local (who was right!!!)
It was so good we have rebooked for next August - maybe we'll see you there!!!!

Lovely clean apartment, maids visited...

Aug 2007, Miss N.K Metcalfe

Lovely clean apartment, maids visited everyday and changed the towels/tea towel, changed the sheets every other day. Staff were very friendly though more were needed during Happy Hour.
Great location, easy access to the beach ( down a small hill) Drinks were quite expensive at the bar so a lot of people bought them from the shop or the spar in Puerto Rico and drank them at the bar on a night (much cheaper) Becki did a good job entertaining but we got very bored of bingo and karaoke twice every day.
The entertainment which the hotel provided was not brilliant either. You must visit Puerto Rico or the Europe (which is up the hill behind the hotel ) costs about 3 Euros in a taxi and is a good night out .
For food a big must is the LE CHEF which is down on the beach and up at the Europe , great value for money ,brilliant food and they spoil you rotten.
The pool which was very nice was cleaned every night and sunbeds were bagged from around 8am/9am even though they say you are not allowed(everyone did) .
It was a nice holiday and would go back again but would like better entertainment next time.

My family and I had a fantastic...

Aug 2007, Miss B Short

My family and I had a fantastic holiday at the Mirador del Atlantico! Everything was great, we overlooked the pool and had a lovely view of the playa amadores beach.
Service at the hotel was very good, the rooms were cleaned everyday by our cleaner who we all think was called Fifi!
Ate at the hotel a few times and it was pretty good, but most nights went to the restaurants on the beach front and everyone we tried was fab!
A 3 euro ride to the commercial centre in Puerto Rico, it’s a worthwhile visit for a bit of shopping. We went on the trip to Mogan market, lots of the same in the market, but a lovely day out and a relaxing boat trip back to the harbour of Puerto Rico, which we all really enjoyed!
The entertainment crew, Becky and Leanne did a great job keeping everyone entertained and they work really hard to make everyone enjoy their holiday without forcing people to take part if they didn't want to! We enjoyed the shows we saw, the kids time in the evening was great fun (my little sister loved it!).
The pool was great, very refreshing after sunbathing in the hot sun for a couple of hours!
Watch out for the sun cream lady on the pool side! I didn't burn that bad whilst using my sun lotion, but we thought we'd give the products a go! So, we all put on the sun cream as instructed and we all burnt very badly!
We enjoyed the holiday so much that we came back early Sunday morning and Monday morning me and my mother went to book for next year!!
So overall we thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend! Also we met some fab families!

Well we have just arrived back from...

Aug 2007, Mrs Sharon Bate

Well we have just arrived back from yet another superb holiday in Gran Canaria visiting our friends at the Mirador Del Atlantico ourselves staying in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico is nice but very hilly not suitable for those with walking difficulties or young children in pushchairs, but has a variety of shops bars and good restaurants we recommend the Indian "Happy Valley”. Puerto Rico is fantastic for all those clubbers out there with fantastic night life.
But ourselves preferred it at the Mirador complex where the entertainment was family friendly and suitable for all age groups and for all those who really do want to enjoy themselves with plenty of fun and activities in the day and lively entertainment at night but don't worry folks, its all in good fun of which the majority seemed to enjoy except the odd one or two who know who they are, not wishing to take part in the family shows.
After all that’s why you go on holiday to chill out and party not to be miserable.
The atmosphere is brilliant and the nights were rocking with most of the holidaymakers up on the stage and taking part in the karaoke of which my husband couldn't sing for toffee but still took part .
Gordon was game for a laugh and helped entertain us all along with my heavily tattooed, bald headed husband who won the hypnotist show again with his bald headed beer bellyed friend.
But the most credit has got to go to the one and only Beckii and her friend Leanne who are fantastic with the kids and make everyone welcome.
All in all I am sure anyone visiting here will definitely have a fabulous holiday unless you are a party poooper.

We have just returned, having spent 2...

Aug 2007, Mr NEIL WOODALL

We have just returned, having spent 2 weeks at the Mirador for the second time in 2 years. This year there was around 30 of us (friends and family) who went back there and all had a fantastic time and would return again.
The hotel was spotless as usual and the rooms are very well equipped. This year the rooms have been fitted with air con, but its 40 euro a week. The first week we did not have it, but found it hard to sleep on a night due to the heat, so paid for it the second week and it is recommended.
The only fault with the hotel is the beer is quite expensive at 3.20 euro a pint, but you can buy the same beer from the onsite shop for around 1.50 euro.
We went for evening meals down on the beach most nights, which would cost around 6 euro each. Another place worth visiting is the Europe centre, 3 euro by taxi. There are plenty of shops and activities for the children, plus lots of places to eat. The Chinese buffet is great value for money at 4.95 euro.
The hotel entertainers, Becky and Leanne were fantastic at keeping the children and adults happy. Sorry to hear that it was Becky’s last season, but I’m sure Leanne will keep up the good work and reputation.
We would just like to thank the families that we met last year, who all returned this year.
You all helped to make our holiday that little bit more enjoyable, the holiday and hotel would not have been the same without you all.

Playa Amadores itself is lovely. Very...

Aug 2007, Mrs H Black

Playa Amadores itself is lovely. Very quiet and relaxed but if you're looking for something a bit more lively just head round to Puero Rico for around 4 euros in a taxi.
We tended to vary with 1 evening here and the next in Puerto Rico mainly because we had an 8 year old who discovered the park there with the trampolines and bungee.
The restaurants in Amadores were all down at the edge of the beach where it was nice to sit and eat watching the sun set. Previous reviews mentioned it was expensive but we never paid more than 40 euros for the 3 of us and never had a bad meal. If you like Italian, head for Ciao Ciao.
The Mirador is ok if you are into a Butlins type holiday with constant activity, organised games, bingo etc. The pool was a nightmare as it was too small for the number of apartments. It was a free for all around 8 am when the usual stampede started for the sunbeds. Although there were notices all around asking you not to reserve them, this was ignored. So if you want a sunbed you have to join in, or head down to the beach. Try London Pride for breakfast or lunch.
There are 2 happy hours a day but coincidentally that is when there are the least bar staff on. One evening we gave up as there was 1 guy on and happy hour would have been over before we got served.
If you want a nice relaxing holiday with guaranteed sunshine Amadores is perfect. We would return but pick alternative accommodation.

The apartments are great! We all had...

Aug 2007, Mr D Kirkwood

The apartments are great! We all had plenty of room to move and they were very clean (well at least for the first week). The staff were great except for the night porter who was not very helpful and a bit cheeky, plus the food was not very nice.
One problem I had was that the apartments were full of English fat bald men with tattoo's who were very loud. I think there must have been a cloning machine producing them at the back of the apartments.
They seemed to gravitate together and get louder and louder, especially when the bingo started which was on '3' times per day! Also if you see the Hypnotist show, keep your eyes shut if you don’t like the sight of people acting badly, not very good when you have kids with you!
I think it may be a good idea to put the prices of the apartments up a bit to deter the loud beer swallowing bald folk.
However I didn't let this spoil my holiday. The location was great. We were only a short walk from the beach which was also very good. The sea is very very salty but lovely.
The food was not great but visit the Amadores Beach Club at the end of the beach for fantastic food, cost, surroundings and service.
Also, if you have read that the temperatures are around 26 degrees, it wrong, these temperatures are taken from the north of the island which even has rain for about 25 days per year, expect more around 40 to 50 or even higher.
I can’t believe I never saw one solar panel there, what a waste! There were forest fires when we were there which covered the sky with smoke, but this only lasted a couple of days, it did get a bit dirty with soot though.
All in all, a great holiday, but watch out for those British bulldogs.

Just got back from the Mirador and...

Jul 2007, Miss R Heard

Just got back from the Mirador and had one of the best holidays ever! The apartments are kept spotless with the cleaner coming 6 out of 7 days changing the towels and bedding every time. She even washed the pots up for us!
We stayed in a studio apartment, which is great for couples but not really meant for families. The bathroom was small like most places but served its purpose, we also had a large balcony looking out onto the sea, which was amazing.
We spent many days round the pool like many other families who had children of all ages and never spoke to anyone who had problems with the water.
We ourselves were in there most days after being to the beach and on trips and found it very clean but busy which was expected. Getting a sun lounge’s could be a problem on busy days especially if you have children, the best thing is to get up at about 8ish to put you towels out and come back down later on!
Like said on other comments the food is not great and was the only let down of the complex.
The pool bar food is over priced and the buffets were not amazing but that bad either could work out cheap for a family.
I would defiantly recommend the Mirador it’s in a great location next to the beach and has great entertainment staff!

Jul 2007, Mr Stuart Comrie

The apartment is excellent. Among the best we have been to in GC. Maid service is second to none. We felt guilty leaving dishes out as she always washed up.
The food however is awful, we ordered a pizza at lunchtime on our first day and it was so sweet, it was not edible. This seemed to be a common trend on all food amongst people we spoke to at the hotel.
The pool is sanitised with a salt based solution rather than chlorine. Our son took ill (tummy upset) resulting in a trip to the doctors, where we met another guest of the apartment whose daughter had similar ailments.
As the holiday went on, we met with numerous families at the hotel, whose children all had the same issue. We all thought that the common factor was the pool. Getting a lounger at the pool is an ordeal. You had to be up waiting until the terrace was cleared before you could get a lounger. On one occasion (one of the few times we were at the pool), the entertainer advised that we had to either give up our children’s beds for new arrived adults, or she would come around and free up some beds!
Due to the food and pool, we ended up spending all our time at the beach. If you are not a pool lover and prefer the beach, this is a good base to use if staying in Amadores. If you prefer to stay at the pool and eat locally, best avoided.

We have just returned from our first...

Jul 2007, Ms E Moore

We have just returned from our first visit to Mirador del Atlantico and would like to say what a great time we had.
The hotel was first class, the room was kept spotlessly clean, and the view was amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful.
We didn't have any children with us, but from what we could see the children’s entertainer was kept busy the whole time and the children seemed to be having a good time.
We did have a friendly cockroach who visited us on a couple of occasions, but we managed to dispose of it!
The only thing I would say is that holiday makers from the adjoining complex (Gran Amadores) seemed to be using our facilities throughout the week, meaning that there was less room at the pool for the holidaymakers staying at the Mirador.
Apart from that the place was lovely and we had a fantastic time.
