Nothing at the Stelios

Aug 2011, miss disappointed

Got back last night. most def a 2 star rating you can not take into consideration what the horizon has to offer as this depending on where your apartment is situated is a walk especially if you want to enjoy snacks by your nearest pool, they have closed the snack bar closest to the apartments reason being that some people are on an all inclusive and was not spending any money in .there, but what about those people on self catering ????? the reception is at the horizon, the main and childrens pool is at the horizon the showers for late night departures is at the horizon infact everything except a small pool is at the horizon. one bedroomed apartments are ok for max 3 people. floor of apts and balcony not swept in 2 weeks, mirrors and taps not cleaned in 2 weeks. stalis lovely beach great!!!!
postive note for stelios emmmmmmmmmmmmm yeah got one they give you endless toilet roll thats positive for greece.
i recently gave up after 24years my job as a travel agent but if i had sent somewhere there i would be awaiting a complaint letter on there return. i am well travelled and have stayed in very basic accomadation as well as deluxe and i have to say that this is the first time i have stayed somewhere that they have overrated by far.
most def will go stalis again most def will not stop here

The accommodation was pleasantly situated between Herinossis and Malia within a few minutes walk of the village of Stalis. This has many good many tourist shops tavernas, bars and a pleasant sand and shingle beach where sun beds can be hired for approximately four euros a day. Scooters, quad bikes and cars can also be hired there for reasonable prices. However make sure you are properly insured before you hire anything!
Bus fares are cheap, regular and very comfortable. There is a bar next to the pool at Stalis which also supplies reasonably priced food via the attached kitchen. Bar prices however were found to be on the high side but tolerable. The staff, including the cleaners were generally cheerful and helpful.
Accommodation was cleaned regularly and the bedsheets and towels were changed approximately every two days. The self catering equipment however needs to be improved. A kettle, fridge and cooker with two rings were supplied but there was a lack of suitable pans for cooking and only one breakfast bowl supplied for cereal etc. This was rectified three days later, despite several requests to holiday rep, after I approached the receptionist in the adjoining Horizon hotel and was handed one!
The reception facilities however for holidaymakers arriving in the middle of the night were somewhat lacking. We were dropped off from the coach at the entrance to the premises and left to our own devices to find the reception area which was in the Horizon hotel. We were eventually handed a key, told we were in room 210 and escorted by the male on duty to the Stalis apartments, pointed to a doorway and told our room could be found there. We eventually found room 210 only to find that the key would not fit!
I returned to reception to find that a further thirty odd holiday makers had arrived and were there being dealt with. The male member of staff informed me that he would return later and sort out the problem but he never materialized.
After looking at the key and the brass tag in the light I found that I had a key for room 213 !! After some further searching it became obvious that there was not a room 213 in the building we were searching! The rooms on the floor above started at 301!!
It was then that the penny dropped ! Stalis, unbeknown to us until that moment, is made up of several blocks of apartments, enumerated as Block A,B,C etc. As we were in block B I tried Block C and within a few moments had found room 213. The key fitted and we entered and occupied the room for our whole stay.
Shortly after we had settled in we heard a commotion outside and upon investigation found the thirty odd other holidaymakers wandering around in a state of confusion looking for their apartments. I explained the setup to them and this helped them eventually find their apartments!
Despite this initial confusion we had a very enjoyable holiday and would stay there again.
CONCLUSION.
1. Provision of self catering equipment in the apartments needs to be reviewed and improved.
2. The person at reception should inform holidaymakers on arrival in the middle of the night that Stalis apartments are comprised of several blocks A,B,C etc and they should be informed of the location of their block where their room is.
3. The brass key tags should be stamped with the block number as well as the room number. This would assist location of the relevant apartment providing holidaymakers are given the correct key in the first place !!!!

staff were friendly to us ,apartment was kept clean, linen and towels changed regularly. Bar prices were far more expensive than bars and tavernas in stalis about 3.50euros for 1 large beer you can get the same for 1.50 in the town the most you will pay is 2 the coast walk into stalis town is lovely you may need a torch for the steps if returning in the dark overall a lovely holiday and we would go back

This was a fantastic choice for us. From the moment we arrived the staff were very freindly, the rooms are basic but clean and airy, they are cleaned regularly. It is a very short pretty walk to the near town of Stalis, which is a beautiful, safe area. There are plent of restuarants and bars if you want to eat out. The cherry on top of the cake for us was POPPY, she is the front of house manager, she is so professional and nothing was too much effort for her she sorted out any little problems straight away and always with a smile. I would most definatley recommend this venue.

Big, clean apartment, 2 balconies. Pool saltwater and a bit small. Prices at poolside bar high. Kareoke till 02.00 Wednesday nights. Some traffic noise. Lot of cricket (the insect, not the game) noise. Swimming platform below Horizon. Short walk to Stalis beach road along sea front path from below Horizon. Plenty of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from. Roma was our favourite.

our flight to greece was great.we were greeted by friendly staff at the airport, and transfer was comfortable.reaching our destination was kind of scary, i had to wait outside in pitch darkness, alone, while my partner booked us in at 2.30 am. being affraid of the dark, and being left alone in strange surroundings really frightened me. other than that the place was exceptionally clean and tidy.star beach is a place not be missed or organised trips by olympic, they are fantastic and educational, for people who work in schools, spinalonga, chrissi beach, and not forgetting the most educational of all crete unknown. if we spent more time and had alot more money we would of liked to do more trips with the olympic because i found them safe and secure. the food at stelios stalis was good, they had internetwhich i found very handy, it kept me constantly in contact with family and friends.what i will miss most of all is the beach, the man who came around selling these gynormous donuts

i stayed here with my partner and 2 children age 8 and 4. there is nothing for kids at all, the pool water is salted which irritated the childrens eyes. the staff were not friendly at all unless you are staying in the horizon which they also run. hide the toilet roll in your appartment as they only like to give you one and were not happy when we asked for another. Dont go to the kareoke on a wed night with children it should be for 18 and over, as the hotels managers were there to see how many girls they could kiss or dirty dance with. dont eat half board or all inclusive at horizon they will offer you this when you check in. it is the worse food i have ever tasted we demanded a refund. food at pool var is ok but drinks are very expensive. go to the stallis front and pay half the price. electra bar is cheap and owners are very friendly its just 5 mins away. beach is really nice.

we stayed in these aparts 2009.There are two pools you can use both nice one overlooking the sea so great for tanning.aparts had everything you need and were cleaned regulary. Its a 10 min stroll into stalis the more you go into stalis the busier it gets.Maestralis cafe was a gud place to eat really gud value for money and the food was lovely.drinks in stelios bar were expensive so went to maestralis only 1 euro for a beer.maria golden beach was nice for pizza or pasta but you have loads to chooses from.Hersonissos is a 15 minute walk from here so you have the best of two resorts.my sister going back again this year and we will definately be going back again in the future

Stayed in a one bedroomed apartment, which was a good size. There was a small balcony which overlooked an empty disused swimming pool. with a side sea view. This made no difference to myself and my friend as we spent very little time in the apartment, only really going back to shower and change. The only real issues with the room was that you had to go through the bedroom to use the bathroom, which as I was sharing with a male friend was a little inconvenient at times!! It is also worth noting that there is no toaster or grill, and please do not try to make toast on the cooker rings as we did and filled the whole apartment full of smoke, besides the bread was very expensive so it's just as cheap to go into Stalis and have one of the amazing English Breakfasts.
Stalis was a fantastic place (if not a little expensive) You will be spoilt for choice for places to eat and you certainly lose track of time along the main drag, where there are plenty of shops (where ther's an excellent handbag shop for the ladies) and bars to keep you occupied. It was coming to the end of season so we did run the gauntlet slightly but no worse than any where else Iv'e been abroad, and I only came across one timeshare tout (God how annoying are they!) I cannot reccommend Camelot highly enough for their food and hospitality it was excellent. Also the "dopey buggers" quiz night at the Kaliana was such a laugh we ended up taking up residence for the last three nights of our holiday. If you walk along the beach many of the restaurants offer free sunbeds if you are having a meal or a drink. Malia was ok, but preferred Stalis. The Water Park was quite small but we stiil had a good time.
All in all this was a GREAT holiday, we found hidden jetty's to dive off and go snorkelling and the majority of Greek people are just adorable. We travelled from Humberside with no delay's and the transfer time was 20 minutes and hassle free, which is just what you need at 3.30am.
I have always said I would never travell to the same holiday destination more that once.........However I am seriously thinking of rebooking to go back to Stalis next year.

  • Advice: Great holiday choice
  • Activities: Camelot and Kaliana
