We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Stelios Stalis apartments and have had a lovely time there. On first arrival we were greeted very warmly by the owners wife and were shown to our apartment which was very spacious and clean. We were on the 3rd floor in C block Room 324 and we had a glorious sea view. The apartments are cleaned regularly and the bins emptied every day. The towels are changed on an almost daily basis. There are two decent sized pools, one at the bar area and one at the side which tended to be more quiet although there is not much shade and we found it got too hot. Marianna is wonderfully enthusiastic and arranges games at the side of the main pool each day for children and adults.
The apartments are situated at the better side of Stalis and it's about a 15 minute walk to the start of the bars/tavernas etc. The beach also begins here and stretches along the coast. The beach is golden sand and very hot to walk on! One word of warning whilst we were there end of July/beginning of August the sea was pretty rough. Families with young children should be very careful as my husband had to rescue a young girl who got into difficulties.
I would agree with the other people who have submitted reviews that the Quads are a menace. You have to have eyes in the back of your head as they are flying about all over the place - they should be banned!
Star Beach on the way to Hersonnisos is about 30 minute walk and is great. It is free entry and you pay for sunbeds parasol. It was 4 euro per bed and 3 for the parasol. There is a water park there and you can also use the beds on the beach.
All in all we had a really good holiday and would definitely recommend the Stelios Stalis apartments.

myself and 10 of our friends went there last week for one week, when we first arrived we were pleased with the size of our rooms, apart from the bathroom, which was of a poor standard, it was like a walk in shower and thats it,and as there was 4 to a room, and the room only had 2 proper beds, it meant one girl had to stay on the sofa and one on a camp bed, which was unfair due to the price we paided we thought. The food, seemed to be all fried and processed, nothing healthy and the staff which treated us, we rude, which we felt was due to us all being young and we felt they could get away with it
The worst part was the fact the hotel staff only changed our towels once when we were there , and they didnt even change out bed sheets once!!..we felt this again was no good...plus in the travel agent we got told it was a 20 min walk to marlia, it clearly wasnt..overall we felt we got we got ripped off..and wont be returning to this accomodation!!!

Thirty to forty quad bikes / mopeds...

Jul 2008, Mr DJ McGLYNN

Thirty to forty quad bikes / mopeds parked at the front of the hotel gave me the first indication that this was not going to be a peaceful break. The hotel was full of groups of teenagers and people in their twenties doing what young people do on holiday i.e. drink to excess and make plenty of noise. I have no problem with that . What I do have a problem with is that this hotel is advertised as being ideal for families and couples - not in July it isn't . The walls are paper thin and you can hear doors being slammed all night as the next drunken gang return home usually accomapanied by poor singing. If, like me, you are unfortunate to be located above the bar bring earplugs. Rather than invest in a couple of fans for the bar area the owners open the windows so that as long as the bar is open sleep is impossible. If you are at the front of the hotel you get to listen to all the drunks emerging noisly from taxis in the early hours of the morning. The apartments are stifling hot and the air conditioning, which they sell to you on arrival, is poor. You only have air conditioning in one bedroom so anyone sleeping in the other room suffers. The room was not cleaned properly all week. The cleaners were reluctant to change towels and stingy with the toilet paper. The 24 hour manned reception is not manned 24 hours and the bar staff miserable and sullen. The communal toilets by the pool never had toilet paper in them and the promised entertainment was either non existent or excruciatingly embarassing. To cap it all they also offered the lowest exchange rate for the Euro - even the airport offered a better deal.

Just arrived home from 2 weeks in...
7 / 10
Jul 2008, Angel_Jodie

Just arrived home from 2 weeks in Stalis stayed in Stelios apartments which for the first week was fantastic. The apartment was clean, spacious everything that you need lovely balcony with a sea view what more could we ask for? The pool area was great plenty of sun beds and full of couples and families which it states in the brochure. Also there is another smaller pool which seems quieter and more relaxing, we never actually used it but passed by it everyday. As I said this was the first week 24th to 30th June. Our second week 1st to 8th July was a different story groups of girls/boys arrived group after group we never saw any families or couples arrive our second week. As we are a married couple in our 30's we are a bit passed the 18-30 age group which is what it felt like sitting around the pool area during the day, so we went off to the beach to escape all the mayhem. It was much noisier on an evening as well we had to confront our neighbours because of the noise no thought to others. A family that we met over there (Hello Pete & Sharon if your reading this) went to the Olympic Rep to complain but was told that it was the overspill from Malia as the apartments over there where fully booked or something to that effect. So beware if 18-30 isn't for you then don't go in July/August to these apartments. Everything else was just fantastic only a short walk to the Beach Road which is never ending and if you go right to the very end you end up in Malia we did this which took us about an hour in total. Or you can turn right instead to Hersonissos and visit Star Beach which made a change from Stalis Beach, there's lots of water sports if your brave enough we had a go on the parasailing what a fantastic experience worth 50 Euros. Also we went on the Happy Train to Krassi up in the mountains again it was fantastic the views were breath taking. The beaches where lovely crystal clear sea and golden sand. We found it more expensive then the last time we went to Greece which was 2 years ago and there wasn't as many offers on the drinks as before. We found a good selection of restaurants and bars you get a bit fed up of been dragged in but just politely tell them 'no thanks' don't stop to have a look at the menus otherwise they won't leave you alone. It's hard to recommend a bar or restaurant as everyone has different tastes. We liked it in the Cocktail Lounge it was 7 Euros for x2 Sex On The Beach and you could taste the alcohol in them unlike in some bars were they just tasted like a glass of fruit juice. We went along to see Will Powers the hypnotist how funny, I think my other half thought that he had hypnotized me but I just found his voice sexy..Lol. He does shows at Robin Hood and the Fox and the Hound. Worth a visit. So all in all a fabulous holiday we would defiantly return to Stalis and stay in Stelios apartments again just never in July/August we would go earlier in the season.

First a note - do not confuse with...
9 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr A Tolley

First a note - do not confuse with Stelios apartments in Malia: they are a separate entity entirely!
Just came back from 2 weeks at the Stelios Stalis, and for most of it had a fantastic time. Although we were self catering, you can upgrade at the apartments. We had the Meal Deal - for €130 per person you get 7 breakfasts (including tea/coffee and juice) and 7 dinners (3 courses, plus salad, plus small local beer/wine/soft drink from the bar). You don't have to take both on the same day, nor do you have to have them on consecutive days either, but 1 of the dinners can be used on the Greek Night (normally €15 per person with all-you-can-eat barbecue and still get the drink included!). The Greek night was the best night at the hotel and includes traditional music and dancing.
Air conditioning is €40 per week, but check to see if you need it first. We had room 118 which had a sea view (though listed as inland - you need to look towards the right to see it) and was benefiting from a sea breeze so we didn't need the AC. Also if you're going to be out of the room for most of the time it'll be kind of a waste anyway!
Not mentioned in the brochure is the second pool at the complex. This is relatively new (the Google Earth image from 2002 doesn't show it) and is quieter than the main pool, with the benefit of the sea breeze again (though this can play havoc with the parasols which possible explains why most of the bases are damaged!). A jacuzzi area is also here, but it wasn't working when we stayed. As it wasn't mentioned in the brochure this is no great loss.
The resort of Stalis is fantastic with practically every taste catered for (including Indian and Chinese). A tip if you're eating out and want a few drinks afterwards - go to a quiet restaurant earlyish and stay. They are more likely to offer you deals to stay (because it makes the place look busier and so more likely to bring in custom). Curry Park on the West End of Stalis Beach Road is a good example of this.
Many trips are on offer, so many you can't do them all in 2 weeks! I recommend a Land Rover tour - the best way to see the island, and oddities like goats in trees!
All in all - you won't be disappointed! (By the way - the magnetized key fobs are great for keeping the small Euro cent coins in place! Why would anyone want to use power when they're out? To keep the room cool when out close the curtain!)

Jun 2008, Miss R Long

jst came back from a fantastic holiday in stalis crete. me and my boyfriend stayed at these apartments last year and decided to go back.
unfortunately andreas is no longer workin there which sort of lets it down abit now as he reali made the apartments what they are. but costas niko and marianne do a good job, not quite the same tho, but stil good.
we got given the best room lookin over the coast and the whole of stalis/malia ,was lush! (326). the rooms are basic, sum may say, but they have all you need, and reali, how long do u reali stay in ur room? they serve their purpose. air con is 40euros and is definitely needed, and 20euros for a safety deposit box if wanted for the week.
crete is a gorgeous country. we rented a car and a quad through the hotel as they gave us the best price! this was good to take a look around the island, but be careful as the drivers over there dnt seem to have any rules and jst do what they want. the road can be very windy with no barriers. we took a trip to chania which takes about 3hours, its a lovely picturesque town on a historic port with lots of retaurants and good for souvenior shopping. we also took a trip down to agios nikolas which is also lovely.
stalis has all u need, about a 20min walk from the apartments at the most. theres lots of restaurants, shops and the beach. we would recommend marias golden beach, which does a good range of food and has a great atmosphere, with traditional greek plate smashing an music. the staff are very fun and friendly.
stalis joins up to malia which has a gorgeous beach, prob too far to walk but get a bus or rent a quad. malia is aimed more at the younger generation with lots of bars and clubs and even a mcd's,kfc and subway lol.
the apartments are a great base for your holiday also nice and quiet as they are away from the centre of town. would recommend to anyone!

15 mins walk into town but fantastic veiws on the ways.
Marriana and Nik do a fab job trying to help people day or night, we hired a car at reception through heronia cars best price we came across

Hi Everyone,I have just returned 2...

May 2008, Mr D BUCKLAND

Hi Everyone,I have just returned 2 Days ago from Two Weeks in Crete at the Stelios Stalis Appts. We stayed on the Self Catering Option, but you are offered the chance to upgrade to all inc on arrival. But that means you are tied to the same restaurant for the duration, but there are unlimited Restauarants in walking Distance allaround. The accommodation was good, clean & tidy. with plenty to see and do.Our Appt slept 4,but with only the 2 of us,there was plenty of room.
Cannot fault the Weather at all, never saw a cloud, never mind any rain! It was hot, some days over 100 Degrees.
My only gripe was the fact that the £ is weak at the moment and it can be quite expensive in some places, but is is best to shop around for your bargains.
Overall an excellent holiday, but watch out for those blinking Quad Bikes!! they are everywhere, and some kids chose not to wear a Crash Helmet which can be a bit Disconcerting when you see them Whizz by!.

May 2008, Mrs G Burton

Having read rave reviews I can only say I was a bit disappointed.I would rate this place as average.Had a studio apartment below the bar, which must get very noisy in high season.Th room was large but the balcony area was overlooked by the balcony for the next door apartment. There were exactly two of everything - cutlery and crockery. The room was cleaned only twice during the week and on one of those occasions, four single sheets were used, overlapping on the double bed - not very comfortable! The bedding had definitely seen better days.Entertainment consisted of one game of bingo - assume that the famous Andreas has either left or does not start tilllater in the season.
Staff were OK but not over friendly.
It is a 15 min downhill walk to any bars, restaurants etc,so a 20 min walk back, and there is a lot of building work going on.This is also the time taken to get to a decent beach, where for 5 Euros two of you have beds and parasols for the day.
Pool is very cold and takes some getting used to.Food at the pool bar is good and reasonably priced - recommend the fried eggs and bacon on toast as good value, though due to the strength of the Euro we did not find many bargains generally. Can recommend Marias Golden Beach, especially their mixed grill for 2.
The nearest supermarlet is around a 10 min stagger away along an unshaded dusty road with motorbikes, quad bikes, vans and cars coming at you from all directions at great speed.Bus service is reasonable but would not recommend a trip to Malia-what a dump!
All in all,an average holiday .Trips offered by tour rep were very pricy, though the local agents weren't much cheaper.
