This is a wonderfully atmospheric place. The apartment was traditional, extremely comfortable spotlessly clean and well equipped. The area is quiet yet close to airport and town with fabulous views from the private balcony, of the mountains, sea and surrounding countryside.
The owners Mr and Mrs Sanchez, are very friendly, homely people who take great pride in their lovely family home and have lots of family pets to meet and greet you. Corsica is a very friendly place with Calvi providing for all our needs. Especially the local supermarket which has everything you need. The citadel is a must, with great views over the town.
The Foreign Legion (2000 of them)were very much in evidence about Calvi, we watched them parachuting into their camp almost every day and emerging from the sea in diving suits whilst we were lying on the beach(shades of James Bond)
The beach is well looked after. the sea clean and shelves gradually, safe for children, all be it still a little chilly.
We would go back again and again to L Aghja, we loved everything about it, its history, location and comfort. We felt very relaxed here in this lovely home.
It is advisable to have a car for the duration of stay, our hire car was part of the package, and was upgraded on our arrival.
We saw no buses and very few taxis at all in 2 weeks. The roads are very good, though a little scary in some places.
We recommend you take the train from Corte to Ajaccio. Wow! Not for the faint hearted, very high through the mountain passes, spectacular scenery it takes your breath away. The tunnels through the mountains are such an amazing feat of engineering. Do not be in a hurry though, the driver goes to his own timetable!
Saint Florent well worth the trip through the Desert of Agrates, very pretty, but invaded by the rich and famous with their enormous boats.
The Scandola nature reserve is worth a visit, especially to see the ospreys.
We lost count of the Golden eagles and Kytes we saw in the mountains, a bird watchers paradise.
You must do the trip up the gorge to Haute Ascot(mountain refuge)amazing, very fast flowing, freezing cold river, snow topped 8,000ft mountains, Stop for lunch at the Auberge "Acropolis" for traditional Corse Soup, then visit the Tortoise village on the way back, well worth the trip.
Pigna is also worth a visit, especially to buy one of the handmade, hand painted musical boxes, shaped liked horses or donkeys.Eat at the "Casa Musica" the petite charcuterie and local fromage , is very tasty
Our rep was very good, though we only met her 3 times during the stay, Beach towels were provided by the company and changed mid stay, also the hamper of food, wash up stuff, toilet rolls etc, etc was a godsend for when we arrived
All in all, fantastic holiday, Corsica is stunning and has stolen our hearts.
