Hotel La Fuente De La Higuera

On arriving at this wonderful place John and I knew instantly that we had made an excellent choice for our first stay in Andalucia. The hotel itself is adorable with it's own unique style. We were welcomed by Christina as though we were old friends, she made us feel instantly at home. Tim and I had come to Andalucia with no specific accommodation choices in mind - all we had was a book in our hand detailing the 'Nice places to stay in Spain'. So, technically I suppose, Hotel La Fuente de la Higuera should not have been an entry in this book - to put in the same sentence as the word 'nice' is to do it a grave injustice. We just returned from a four day stay at «Hotel La Fuente De La Higuera» about 5-km in the country outside of Ronda. Christine and Pom, the owners, and Frank, the manager, treated us more as friends visiting their home than guests in their hotel. Each morning, we enjoyed the lovely and healthy buffet breakfast in the sunny dining room of the inn. We ate at the inn three of the four days of our stay. Last weekend I was able to show off Andalucia to a London friend, who had flown out to escape the winter grayness of the UK. We had booked into the Hotel La Fuente De La Higuera, near Ronda. I now live on the Costa del Sol, so I relish any excuse to escape to the peace of inland Andalucia. The hotel had been on my list of places to go for some time and it didn’t disappoint. We've just come back from la Fuente and we're still smiling. Think character property with white modern clean rooms: large beds with white linen, tasteful decor, thoughtful touches. This property is run by a husband and wife who clearly love being hosts and are good at it. The staff are friendly (I'm surprised by reviews that say otherwise) La Fuente is a converted olive mill designed by the owners. I'm impressed with their classic sense of decor. We have just spent 3 nights at La Fuente de la Higuera and had an absolutely wonderful time. The setting was spectacular, and on 2 of 3 days we had glorious sunshine which really made the valleys and hills a sight to behold. The hotel itself is one of the best I have ever stayed in, the staff are great and Christina and Pom are both excellent hosts. We spent two nights here and it was amazing. The room was very large and airy, with 2 french doors onto a large terrace overlooking the wonderful view. We had dinner one night and it was delicious, fresh and the service was very prompt. The owners and the other staff were all very friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us. We will definately recommend and return.

My partner and I have recently returned from 18 days in Spain, and, without a doubt, our favorite experience was our stay at Fuente de la Higuera (and we stayed and four and five star establishments throughout Spain). What made it so fabulous? 1) The Setting. On a hill overlooking a beautiful valley with the white town of Ronda off in the distance. It took us about 1 1/4 hr of driving on excellent well signposted traffic free roads once outside Malaga. We have just arrived back from an amazing week at La Fuente. Travelling there with an 18 month old daughter could not have been easier. Pom, Tina and the staff were friendly and welcoming not to mention accomodating of the different needs of a child. Food was produced outwith mealtimes, bottles of milk warmed and they were relaxed about having a small child around the hotel.
