While there's nothing attractive about the high-rise concrete overload, blocks of ugly apartments blighting the area the beach itself is magnificent, wide stretches of pale, soft sand with plenty of space for the huge jelly fish that get left behind at every tide(never did go swimming).
Ear plugs are a must for a good nights sleep, every Portuguese family have at least one dog these set each other off barking at 11pm every evening for hours on end. Dog mess is also a big problem on footpaths and the beach.
The people well! Only time I saw them smile was when Portugal beat England in the world cup.
If you want to loose yourself for a day or a lifetime hop on the ferry across to Spain it takes about 10minutes costing less than 2 euros and you don’t need a passport, its worth going just to get a smile from a Spaniard.
The food can be bland and the choice repetitive if you don’t like chicken or sardines, tough. Commissions for changing money can be very high ( up to £10 per transaction ) so change a large amount in one go. The Montesol Aparthotel should be demolished!
