My wife, 10-year-old son & I were refugees from an appalling nearby villa (Thomson get a big fat zero for that, we had to make our own arrangements and they're refusing to pay the hotel bill) and this hotel turned disaster into delight. Not crowded when we went, possibly... more

Been back a week from a great holiday at the Princess. Comfortable room !095 over looking the kids pool. Great food, wonderful staff, particularly the waiters on the terrace.
Plenty to do no need to leave the hotel grounds

First time in this hotel. Excellent choice of food (last week on one day was a Mexican night and the other day a kind of Japanese with sushi), great evening shows and beautiful pools. 15 minutes from the sand dunes (sand can be really hot, so take closed shoes). 5 Euro to... more

We stayed in the Tabaiba princess which is the other half of the hotel, Overall we thought it was pretty good and couldn't complain too much, half of the hotel is all inclusive the other half is half board, alcohol in the all inclusive is only served up until 23:00 and the... more

loved this hotel. room was always cleaned.pool, reception and restaurants always clean. only thing which i found a little straining was the distance to anything. The beach was about a 30 min walk and the shops were not much closer. would need to get taxi's to get around. so unless you like a good walk not a great location.

We were very disappointed in our holiday this year. A family of 4 with two teenagers. The hotel was in a location where we had to regularly arrange for taxis. We felt the hotel exploited tourists. When we were allocated our rooms we were given two joined rooms. After... more

fantastic break
Having been to the Gran Canaria Princess for New Year 2002/3 (very good) we decided to try the Maspalomas Princess for New Year 2003/4 and it was even better. Although situated away from the bustle of Playa Del Ingles the cabs are cheap and easily available if you need a change of scene. The hotel, staff, food, all absolutely brilliant and the New Year gala dinner and entertainment were first class. Have just booked to return for this year's new year celebrations, can't wait. Also agree with another reviewer - must try Garbo's a very special night out.
Amazing hotel
Wow! this was an amazing hotel! the food is great although there was not a huge choice for vegetarians. The drinks were very expensive, about E4.95 for a bacardi breezer! The pool area was great, but although it looks safe be careful, there are theives about! they love walkmans! The evening entertainment was amazing! The Maspalomas Princess band Flash Union need some credit, the singer Maribel is amazing, never will you see dancing like that, and as for her voice, any English singer would get to number 1 in days with her voice! They do a great rendition of Superstar and Party Started (their style is main stream modern music)
Fantastic!
What a fastastic hotel and a fantasic holiday. The hotel is large with an amazing swimming area. The pool area even has its own man made beech! The food was fantastic - so much to choose from, and the room was clean anf tidy. We found if you book through Thompson with are in the Maspalomas Princess side of the hotel, but if you book through Portland you are in the Tabaiba Princess side. Both sides are a mirror image of the other, just with a differant colour scheme. The beech and the sand dunes are about a 15 minute walk, but cabs only cost about £2, if you dont fancy the walk. We went in June/July 2004 and there were sunbeds available all day every day, what ever time you went down. PS Watch out for the happy hour drinks in both of the piano lounges between 5pm-6pm (make a pint of beer cost around £1! This hotel is certianly worth visiting!
Sunbed Vultures!!!!
The hotel is an oasis in an otherwise dusty landscape, with every effort made to offer green and lush surroundings, it is also a very clean and clinically run hotel. Having put on a few hard lost pounds, the buffet style food is of the first order with staff running the affair with boot camp efficiency, which is no bad thing. The pools are superb but lack warmth. Even the supposedly heated ones are a little on the chilly side for those who like bath water and nothing else. This said, the way they gently slope from shallow to deep is a boon to the watchful parent, who, on the whole, can relax in such child safe surroundings - but be aware there are no lifeguards on duty. The entertainment is above holiday norm with the enthusiasm of its eager-to-please cast lifts it above most hotel offerings. Admittedly, it does become tedious towards the end of your stay. The downside of the hotel is its location, it's a good half hours walk from anything. Travel information would be nice or an offer of arranged transport would counter the feeling that you are out on a limb. And finally, Brithsher beware!! This is a popular hotel with european nations and you guessed it, they hog the beds. Although most are happy with one, I had a nasty "run in" with an adamant "gent" who insisted it was fine to reserve three because he had made the effort to "bags them" whilst the rest of us were still in slumber!! It apparently allowed him to have the best possible position as the sun made its pass over the pool area. Frustrating but not insurmountable. The hotel has very few faults and is well worth a visit. If you're looking for quality with minimum fuss, this is th hotel for you.
It's Not All Great !
Ok, so most of what they say about the hotel is right - the food is good and the rooms are good. BUT watch ot for the towels on pool beds - there is a notice that tells you NOT to do it, but it is completely ignored by guests from ALL countries to the extent that 75% of the beds are reserved with towels by 9.30. And no one from the hotel bothers to stop it. Also there is some exhibitionist nudity in the steam room which is totally unacceptable. Beware the queues for meals too -hardly what you expect from a 4 star hotel.
Fantastic Holiday
We have just returned from our first trip to Gran Canaria and had a truly fantastic holiday. The hotel was everything you could want and more. The rooms and general hotel were spotless, the food great and bars and entertainemnt to suit everyone. The pool area is stunning with lots of space to sunbathe and swim.
great time
have stayed here 3 times in just 12 months, not bad when both the chidren 1 & 2 by 1st visit. Nice to go away and not worry about the children being a problem, staff fantastic which is why we kept going back. Hotel, rooms, food and staff were great and will go again
Absolutely loved the Princess ....
This was our first visit to Gran Canaria (Jan 04) and probably our best holiday yet! The hotel, although remote, was brilliant - cabs easy and cheap, so getting around was not a problem. The food - well, what can you say about the food - ate far too much and now need to diet! - even the most pickiest of people will find something good to eat! Thoroughly recommend the hotel - staff, entertainment (even 'Elvis' in the piano bar) very very good (although the 'old chap' who sings in the other piano bar began to sound like Clive Dunn after a while - Bless him). I cannot think of any 'negatives'. Whilst you are there- go and see Garbo's - not to be missed! We will be going back next January for sure!!
Great Hotel Friendly staff
Well all I can say about this hotel is that Myself and partner have been here 4 times and planning to go again. The rooms are big and spacious the staff is very friendy and speek good English and they just adore the children. Plenty of things to keep everyone occupied and good entertainment. The food is wonderful especially the puddings!!!! The whole hotel chain is wonderful stayed at 4 of the Princess Hotels around the Canarias but this one I feel is the Best. Thats why we hope that we go a again this year
Fabulous!

The food is delicious and the entertainment is brilliant too. I personally loved the pools and its not that far from the beach either. An excellent hotel in Maspalomas, recommended!!

  • Hire a car and be prepared to travel - it doesn't take long, the roads are good and fuel is cheaper. Buses eat into your day too much for more distant locations such as Puerto Mogan. - by Hard-to-please Holidaymakers
