I don't know what half the people are...

I don't know what half the people are on about on this website, this hotel is fantastic, the place is always clean. The staff helpful and friendly and the food is good. As for someone going on about naked Germans going to and from the sauana we saw nothing of the kind!! The hotel is a little far out for anywhere but it costs around 3euro for a taxi or you can walk. The entertainment in the hotel is good too though. You could aways get a sun bed no matter what time of day. The only one downside I would say for this hotel is the gym facilities they are stated as saying that they are state of the art, they are no such thing they are really bad and i would go as far as to say dangerous, but if that's not something you are looking for on your holiday then you will love this place.

I chose this hotel as I wanted...

I chose this hotel as I wanted somewhere that looked safe, Clean and child findly for our first family holiday away with my one year old son. The hotel as perfect, clean, staff were friendly. Thw weather was great the whole holiday, in its 30oC.
The closest restaurants are at Faro 2, which is a ten minute walk away if you go out the back of the hotel and over the bridge. The beach it about an half an hours walk down the dry river bed, out the back of the hotel.
We went half board, apart from the first nights dinner the food was lovely, they hadthemed nights on e.g Mexican food. worth paying to eat at lunch.
The only fault I have with this hotel is that it isn't suitable for young chlidren. I found it hard getting bottle made as there was no kettle in your room and you couldn't hire them either. The are bottle warmer available from the Thomson reps but wen asking to hire one out they made us feel that is wa too much hassle for them.
If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a gorgous hotel then this is perfect, If you have young children then you may find everythings a bit too far out of reach.
Id advise you to bring your own keetle for bottles etc.
You couldn't fault he hotel or staff themselves as they were great.

Feb 2008, Ms BKH Howard

The pictures of this hotel on the internet do not do this beautiful place justice. My partner and I were staying at another hotel when we stumbled across this one. We checked out of the former hotel (even though we had booked for 7 nights!) lost the money and booked into the Princess hotel because I had fallen in love with the beauty of this place....
And it truly didn't disappoint. The price was amazing - we were sure there had to be a catch - such as the room being horrible - but this was definitely not the case. The room was beautiful - the pool area was so amazing I nearly cried when I had to leave. The staff were friendly and the buffet amazing and efficient. I had the nicest cheese I have ever had in my life in that hotel! Yes, the cost of the internet was high and you had to pay for the safe in the room but that seems to be typical for Gran Canaria. My partner complained that the mattress was too hard, but I didn't share his opinion - the hotel seems to cater for Germans who adore hard mattresses!
I will definitely be back. Ironically we also checked out the princess in Mogan and it didn't have half as nice a feel to it. Nevertheless, I will definitely check out other princess hotels in the world.

This holiday was a late booking holiday,so we did not pay the full price. on arrival at reception there was not enough staff on duty so you had to wait to be checked in ,the food did not live upto a 5 star hotel ,this was more a 3 star and should not be called a platinum hotel , the rooms were clean , the pool areas were clean ,again the food by the pool area bars was not very good, we only stayed in the hotel bar one night ,went into playa del ingles the cab s cost only 3/4 euros .ok for a late booking holiday

All the bad comments from other guests that I have read, are totally unfounded.
This is a superb hotel and serves the very best of food and the choice is endless. This was our second time to this hotel, and we think it has improved a lot (not that it wasnt ok on the first holiday) We did find however that some restaurant staff were very rude, and indeed one woman waitress nearly got a slap from my wife.
The hotel and rooms are spotless, and the pool bars and restaurant are excellent.
The pools are in a class of their own and are beautifully kept.
Cleaners are constantly on hand and do a very good job considering they have so much to do.
Overall, I would come back to this hotel as much as I could afford to, and as many times.

I've seen some of the mixed comments on this hotel, ive been to this hotel since it first ever opend and there was the fire ect. And ill agree it will never be as good as it was befrore the fire with all the diffrent english channels most are german now, as the all inclusive side of the hotel caters for many german companies.
How ever this is my favourite hotel, im 15 years of age you may think i dont know very much but ive grown up in htis hotel. you can meet amazing people there, the staff are so friendly and cheerful some arnt as cheerful but we all have off days. its a fun experience ive been there so many times and ill agree the standards have slipped slightly after the all inclusive side was added. but its still an amazing experience. they have a new amusmant park up the road called holiday world which is nice for younger people. porta morgan is a lovley place to go and all the other water parks and shopping complexes
lovley beaches, the hotel has a lovley dinner they do a special ngiht every thursday Gran caneria or mexican, if you dont liek this food you can still eat something else, they have a new kids table, and if im being honest, you can just sneak over to the all inclusive side when youve been seated in the maspolomas and steal drinks, ive seen sevral people do it, id be to scared myself.
the pools are amazing, not a cockroach insite i nthe hotel all my time ive been there ive only ever seen one on the lower floor and that was when they had the big water feature which is now replaced with plants. they have internet cafes that are pretty reasonable, great entertainment in the bars with mini doscos ect. Great fo familys also for couples because its quite relaxing, you can get massages there steam rooms and saunas. the main hotel is now non smokign and so is the resteraunt smokign alowed in rooms and outside hotels and pool areas. there are amazing pool bars.
I think its an AMAZING hotel id recomend it, i think it woudl still be alot better if they droped the all inclusive side and bought back the more english chanels like cartoon network, it keeps the younger kids entertained in teh evning you get bored of sport and news after a while see.
I'm returning to the hotel again On the 14th of febuary for a week in the half term, for my 16th birthday. and i mstill very excited, i just didnt want to leave they make you feel so at home when yor staying there. yes some guests are snooty and argue my mother has had a few but thats not the hotels fault that snobs decide to go and pick peoples faults out and be nosey. besides its quite entertaining. you meet so many people there as i said my mother met thousands of couples there and ever dinner time if shed see them theyd say hellop most guests are very friendly its just those ocasional few who think there better then everyone else there because its a platanum hotel, yet they foreget were stayign there too and ahev payed the same price if not more for a larger family.
Id recomend it ccompletley ive spent 2 birthdays there already and hope to spend many more. its a truly AMAZING hotel. id give it more then 10 out of 10 if i could.
I say pack your bags and leave now. x

My partner and I were looking for a last minute getaway before Xmas hype set in and Maspalomas Princess didn't disappoint. Fantastic hotel if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday and are happy chilling by the pool. Beach is about 10 min walk away - soft sand and amazing views of sand dunes which I’ve heard, are great fun to trek over!
Hotel resort is located away from bustle of town centre but the hotel itself has plenty to keep you entertained, day and night. Very clean, tidy resort - cleaners always on duty wherever you go! Rooms vary but our particular room was a good size, again, clean, plenty of storage space and a small balcony to soak up last remains of sunshine late afternoon. Bathrooms were large and clean and maids visited every morning.
Pools were very impressive...5 pool in all, a couple heated for the wimps! Amazing vegetation surrounding pools creating a real 'tropical' environment. Artificial beach area surrounding 3 pools and although not attractive at first, made using small stones rather than sand but helps keep pools clean and can confirm, crystal clear water. Every kid friendly...
We had half board and must say, very impressed with food and service provided in restaurant. Lots to choose from and a range of healthy to 'wicked' options. I thoroughly recommend you make a couple of sarnies up at breakfast for lunch!
Hotel staff were very friendly and always greeted you when around hotel. Thompson reps also very friendly and helpful. Always on hand when needs be.
In general, I noticed the hotel had a lot of the older generations staying....I’d say 60% were over 50 years of age and 40% were young families and couples. Probably due to the lack of hard core party venues nearby.
Oh, one last tip if you are visiting Maspalomas Princess....take a travel kettle with you and a few t bags!! I missed my cup of tea a great deal! You can grab some milk at breakfast in restaurant.

I first stayed at this hotel in April 2000. It has been 7 years but at last I went back.
I've read the previous comments and I can honestly say that it is the most wonderful hotel I have ever been to and definitely returning next year.
If standards have fallen in the intervening years then I must be very lucky as this year it was as good as I can remember. I just love it. It was nice to see a familiar face at reception and the food excellent, rooms spotless and staff very helpful.
What more can I say just go and enjoy a relaxing holiday and do as much or as little as you want!

On arrival WOW was our initial thought, beautiful hotel, clean and well presented.
The pool is fabulous with plenty of beds for all although beach area was a little hard on the feet, kitty litter comes to mind not quite sand! A 20 minute walk takes you to the most outstanding beach and the sand dunes are breath taking not to be missed, and a small shopping complex called Faro 2 is a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction this will fill an evening but other than that it’s a taxi or car hire to go into playa de'Ingles.
We would recommend hiring a car and visiting Puerto de Mogan they call this Little Venice and lives up to the name.
Things that let this hotel down were that on arrival we had a 2 hour wait for room and when you have been up since 2am and travelling all day it’s a little frustrating waiting around in the 36' heat, we also found our room EXTREMELY noisy as we were by the lifts and they didn’t stop until very late/early morning.
Maids were Brill they cleaned the rooms everyday but most of the towels had holes in, not what you expect for 5*.
Restaurant was nice and food was ok but very limited variety, some nights better than others the Mexican night was superb too much to choose from, but some staff are VERY rude and unpleasant putting a dampener on some evenings!
On leaving the hotel we were told we had charges to our room for the first evening’s drinks which were paid for before we left the restaurant in cash. The waiter got us to sign the receipt which we thought was standard being as it was the first night, which meant the drinks were charged to our room, after already paying for them.
My advice would be not to sign anything and pay as you go because if they make the mistake they won’t rectify it, you will still end up paying. The Thomson rep took our details and said they would look into it (we will see).
My partner and I were a little disappointed with this 5* hotel considering the cost we were expecting a lot more being as we visited a 4* hotel last year in Cala Galdana Menorca (the Cala Galdana hotel) which was beautiful and half the price and a much more pleasant and enjoyable holiday which we highly recommend. It is safe to say that the experience at this hotel has put us off visiting again.
You may read this and think we are a little snobbish but we are just being honest.

Sep 2007, Mr P Mylod

This is the 4th time we have been to this hotel and it has been going downhill every time we have gone. It is now at a stage that I reported the hotel to Thomson to question it's Platinum status given in its grading.
I feel this hotel is now a 3 star hotel and we will not be going there ever again. We have seen the quality slipping since they introduced the all inclusive to the Taribba side of the hotel.
This has a knock on effect for the rest of the hotel when standards drop to meet the prices all inclusive brings. The hotel has to make a choice go completely all inclusive and stick to that end of the market, or drop all inclusive and bring standards back up to meet its Platinum requirements. Sitting on the fence is going to get them nowhere.
The make things worse we had our sat nav stolen from our room on the last day and when I got a replacement, my old one was picked up being used in Lisbon.
I have read reviews of stealing at this hotel before but thought it would not happen in a Platinum Hotel?

Jul 2007, Mrs L Ball

It was the best thing ever to go away for New Year highly recommend it to anyone, the weather was like summer it was even better knowing that is was very cold and wet at home.
The hotel was fantastic the pools were large and heated they were many to choose from.
Lots of bars one piano bar in particular very relaxing, atmosphere was really good really catered for the new year celebrations big party, and what was nice that this was a very family friendly hotel.
Loads of selection on the foods.

3 / 10
Jul 2007, Mrs S Marshall

This is our 3rd visit in 18 months and boy have standards dropped!
We paid an extra £60.00 for a taxi to and from the airport and when it turned up (both ways) it was a decrepit old bus just for the 3 of us. As for the Thomson reps, we didn't even bother due to earlier experiences with complaining last year.
I agree with an earlier comment that this hotel should no longer be classed as Platinum as you are all treated the same. Checking in is a nightmare!!
Bar and dining staff friendly as always - however service was, at times slow simply because there were so few.
Food definitely gone downhill, as has the standard of cleanliness in all areas. Two pools were closed for a day whilst we were there as someone had what I will refer to as an 'accident' in them.
Particular attention should be paid to the mini golf area which is so tatty and indeed we made the same comment last June and it remains just as bad, bits of tape sticking things together!
There are now only 2 table-tennis tables for both Tabaiba and Princess (last year there were at least four). It was rare for my 9 year old to get a game (unless he was there at 7.00 a.m. as the Germans from the other hotel monopolised them). As for the sunbeds, well - don't get me started!!
The air conditioning was bad and in fact at one point some moisture dripped through the ceiling of the piano bar onto me.
Generally the standards have declined dramatically in such a short time. Everywhere is generally tatty and tired looking.
There is a plus point though - the weather was glorious which always helps.
While we were there, we checked out another hotel in Melonaras which looked wonderful so we shall be returning there next year.
We will not return to Maspalomas Princess and nor will we use Thomson.
